There is no independently verified “best” VPS for Coolify in 2026. The defensible choice is the provider and plan that match your workload: start around 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 40 GB of storage for testing or one small application; move to 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM and 80–100 GB of SSD storage for several applications or a database; and use 8 or more vCPU with at least 16 GB RAM, or a separate build server, for heavy builds and many services. Hetzner and DigitalOcean are both documented options, but the available evidence does not establish that either is cheaper or more reliable.
What “best VPS for Coolify” actually means
Coolify is a self-hosted deployment platform. The VPS does not merely run the Coolify interface: it also runs your application containers, databases, image storage, volumes, logs and build jobs. A plan that looks adequate for the control panel can become undersized as soon as you deploy a second service or build a large image.

The current documentation supports a sizing decision rather than a universal provider ranking. It identifies baseline resources, gives an example production-style configuration, and describes workload tiers. It does not provide a controlled price, reliability or performance comparison between VPS companies. Treat any page claiming a single objectively “best” provider with caution unless it shows current, like-for-like measurements.
Coolify server requirements at a glance
| Use case | vCPU | RAM | Storage | What this sizing represents |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coolify platform minimum | 2 | 2 GB | 10 GB free | Enough for the platform itself according to the installation documentation; it leaves little room for application data, images or logs. |
| Testing or one small app | 2 | 4 GB | About 40 GB | Matches Coolify’s production-style example and the small-app tier reported in the DigitalOcean marketplace listing. |
| Several apps and a database | 4 | 8 GB | 80–100 GB SSD | Consistent with the marketplace guidance for roughly five to ten applications plus databases. |
| Many services or heavy builds | 8 or more | 16 GB or more | 150 GB or more | Matches the marketplace’s 10-plus-service tier; a separate build server is another supported approach. |
The 10 GB figure is a platform minimum, not a sensible general-purpose disk allocation. Container images, writable volumes, database files, build caches and logs consume space independently of Coolify’s own files. The legacy Coolify v3 requirements page also called for 30 GB or more for images, which explains why a larger practical allowance is necessary.

Coolify’s documentation describes an example with 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 40 GB of storage, and reports CPU use near 70–90% in that example. That observation is a warning against treating the minimum as a performance target: the control plane can run, yet leave little CPU headroom for builds or application traffic.
How to size a VPS for your workload
CPU: the deciding factor for builds
Container builds are CPU-intensive. The v3 requirements documentation specifically warns that a single CPU becomes a bottleneck during builds. More cores generally let independent build steps and services make progress concurrently, while an undersized CPU causes slow deployments even when memory is available.
Choose the two-vCPU tier when you are experimenting or deploying one modest application with infrequent builds. Four vCPUs are a more comfortable starting point when a database and several services share the machine. Eight or more vCPUs are appropriate when builds are frequent, images are large, or many services need to run at the same time. If builds are occasional but unusually demanding, moving builds to a separate server can protect the production host without forcing every runtime service onto a larger plan.
RAM: leave room for the application, not just Coolify
The platform can technically operate with 2 GB, but that amount is not a practical target for a host that also runs applications. Databases, language runtimes, reverse proxies and build processes all compete for memory. The 4 GB example is therefore a more useful floor for a small deployment, while 8 GB is the evidence-backed tier for several applications with databases.
Memory pressure usually appears as slow builds, processes being killed, or a database becoming unresponsive while a deployment runs. Increasing RAM will not cure a build that is CPU-bound, so diagnose both resources instead of assuming that the most visible symptom identifies the cause.
Storage: account for images, volumes and logs
Disk requirements grow over time. Every deployed image can leave layers and cache data; databases and user uploads occupy volumes; logs accumulate unless you rotate or export them. SSD storage is the relevant comparison for this workload because build and database operations perform frequent reads and writes.

Reserve roughly 40 GB for a small, short-lived installation rather than allocating only the documented 10 GB platform minimum. For multiple applications and a database, the 80–100 GB tier provides the larger working set described by the marketplace guidance. Hosts running many services or retaining substantial images and data should start at 150 GB or more, with a plan for monitoring and expansion.
Network and region
Region and bandwidth are selection criteria even though the available material does not supply a provider-by-provider latency or transfer benchmark. Put the VPS near your users and any external database or storage service where practical, and check the provider’s current bandwidth policy for the exact plan. Do not infer network quality from CPU or RAM specifications alone.
Provider shortlist: what the evidence supports
| Provider | Coolify availability | Published sizing information | Current plan prices | What remains unverified |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hetzner | Hetzner documentation lists a Coolify application for its cloud, installable through the Hetzner Console or Cloud API. | The retrieved official material does not state current plan specifications in the evidence available here. | Not stated; check the live pricing page for the region, architecture and billing term you intend to use. | No supported conclusion about being cheaper, faster or more reliable than DigitalOcean; a reported 2026 price change was not confirmed on an official page. |
| DigitalOcean | A Coolify marketplace listing is available. | The listing reports about 4 GB RAM, 2 CPUs and 50 GB for one to three small apps; 8 GB, 4 CPUs and 100 GB for five to ten apps plus databases; and 16 GB or more, 8 CPUs and 150 GB or more for 10-plus services. | Not stated; marketplace prices are volatile and must be checked live. | The figures are tier guidance, not a comparative benchmark against Hetzner, and do not establish reliability or performance leadership. |
Both names are reasonable places to begin because their own documentation surfaces Coolify deployment paths. The available evidence does not justify declaring a winner. Your final choice should be made against the resource table, architecture compatibility, region, bandwidth and the price shown when you order.
A practical decision framework
Choose the small-app tier when
- You are learning Coolify, testing a deployment or running one lightweight application.
- Builds are infrequent and you can tolerate moving to a larger plan if usage grows.
- You need enough storage for images and logs rather than merely the installation files.
Choose the database-and-several-apps tier when
- A database shares the VPS with two or more application services.
- Deployments happen regularly and should not starve production processes of CPU.
- You expect image layers, volumes and logs to grow beyond a minimal test installation.
Choose the heavy-workload tier or split builds when
- You run many services, build often, or compile resource-intensive projects.
- Deployment speed matters and a build queue would otherwise compete with live traffic.
- You want production services isolated from bursty build workloads.
These are starting points, not permanent commitments. Measure actual CPU, memory and disk use after deployment, then resize the resource that is limiting you. Adding RAM to a CPU-bound build, or adding CPU to a disk-full host, solves the wrong problem.

How to select the exact VPS
- Inventory every service. List the Coolify control plane, application containers, databases, queues, scheduled jobs, monitoring components and any build process that will run on the host.
- Classify the workload. Put the deployment into the small-app, several-apps, or heavy-build category. If it sits between categories, choose the larger tier rather than relying on the platform minimum.
- Compare vCPU and RAM together. Confirm that the plan meets the tier’s CPU and memory target. A plan with generous memory but too few cores can still bottleneck builds.
- Verify usable SSD capacity. Count application data, database volumes, image layers, build cache and logs. Do not treat advertised disk capacity as space reserved exclusively for Coolify.
- Confirm architecture. Coolify supports amd64 and arm64. On Raspberry Pi OS, arm64 is required. For cloud ARM plans, verify that every application image and dependency you intend to deploy publishes an arm64-compatible variant.
- Check the provider’s current region and bandwidth terms. Select a location that fits your users and inspect transfer limits for the exact plan; these details are not interchangeable between providers or regions.
- Record the live price before ordering. The available provider pricing pages do not establish current prices for either provider. Prices and plan specifications can change, so use the provider’s current calculator or order screen rather than an undated article.
- Choose an upgrade path. Confirm that the provider offers a larger CPU, RAM and disk configuration or an additional build host before you commit production workloads.
Architecture: x86 and ARM are both possible
Coolify’s installation documentation lists amd64 and arm64 as supported architectures. That makes an ARM-based cloud VPS valid at the platform level, and it is the required architecture on Raspberry Pi OS.
Platform support does not guarantee application support. A container image may be published only for amd64, or a native dependency may lack an ARM build. Before choosing an ARM plan, inspect the manifests for your application images and test the complete build-and-deploy path. If one critical image is x86-only, an amd64 VPS avoids that compatibility failure; the sources do not establish which architecture is faster or cheaper for a given application.

Disk planning and operational limits
Why the installation minimum is misleading
The documented 10 GB free-space requirement covers Coolify itself. It does not reserve space for the artifacts Coolify manages. The older v3 guidance called for at least 30 GB for images, and the production-style example used 40 GB total. Those figures show how quickly a nominally successful installation can run out of room once deployments begin.
What to monitor
- Image layers and build cache after repeated deployments.
- Database files and user-uploaded volumes.
- Container and system logs.
- Temporary files created during builds.
Set a disk alert before the filesystem reaches capacity. A full disk can prevent new builds, stop databases from writing, and make the management interface appear broken even though the VPS itself is powered on. If growth is predictable, expand the volume before an emergency rather than waiting for a failed deployment.
Build performance and service isolation
Builds are bursty: they can consume several cores for a short period while ordinary services remain lightly loaded. The Coolify v3 documentation identifies builds as CPU-intensive and warns that one CPU will bottleneck them. This is why vCPU count deserves as much attention as RAM in a provider comparison.
For a small project, running builds and services together is simple and matches the compact sizing guidance. As build frequency or image complexity increases, two approaches are available: select the larger CPU tier, or place builds on a separate server. The latter keeps build spikes from competing with a production database or application, but it adds another host to maintain and price. The right choice depends on how often you deploy and how disruptive a slow or failed build would be.
What not to conclude from provider comparisons
- Do not equate a marketplace listing with a benchmark. DigitalOcean’s tiers describe suggested workloads; they do not prove faster builds or better uptime than another provider.
- Do not publish an unverified plan price. The available evidence does not confirm current Hetzner or DigitalOcean prices, and cloud pricing can change by region and architecture.
- Do not assume a third-party plan name is current. Names and specifications reported in an external 2026 guide were not confirmed on an official pricing page, so they should not be used as purchasing facts.
- Do not treat the smallest install as production sizing. The installation guide describes a configuration below the normal recommendation as technically possible, not advisable.
Common failure modes and fixes
Installation succeeds but deployments fail
Check free disk space first. Image layers, volumes, logs or build temporary files may have consumed the room that the initial installation required. Remove obsolete artifacts according to your retention policy or expand storage; moving to a faster CPU will not repair a full filesystem.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBuilds are unacceptably slow
Inspect CPU utilization during a build. If cores are saturated while memory remains available, move to a higher-vCPU tier or separate the build workload. The documentation’s warning about single-CPU bottlenecks applies even when the application itself is small.

Services restart during builds
Look for memory pressure and CPU contention at the same time. A 2 GB host may run the platform but have insufficient headroom for application containers and a database. The next evidence-backed step is the 4 GB small-app configuration or the 8 GB multi-application tier, depending on the number of services.
An ARM deployment cannot start
Confirm that each image and native dependency supports arm64. Coolify can run on arm64, but platform support cannot add an architecture variant that the application publisher did not provide. Rebuild for arm64 where possible or select amd64 for workloads that require x86-only components.
You cannot compare two advertised plans fairly
Normalize the comparison: same vCPU count, RAM, SSD capacity, architecture, region, bandwidth allowance and billing period. A lower headline price may simply represent less storage, a different region or an ARM plan with different application compatibility.
When to resize or move to a separate server
Resize when one resource repeatedly reaches its limit and the provider offers a larger configuration with the architecture and region you need. Keep the existing host small when it runs stable services and move only builds to another server if build spikes are the problem. This split can be more efficient than enlarging every runtime service, but it introduces deployment networking and another operational boundary.
Move providers only for a concrete reason such as an unavailable region, incompatible architecture, insufficient disk options or a price that no longer fits your budget. The evidence here cannot establish a universal migration advantage between Hetzner and DigitalOcean, so base that decision on your measured workload and the live offers available when you act.
Bottom line for 2026
Start with the workload, not a provider logo. For a trial or one small application, target 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and about 40 GB of storage. For several applications with a database, use 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM and 80–100 GB of SSD. For many services or demanding builds, plan on at least 8 vCPU and 16 GB RAM, 150 GB or more of storage, or a dedicated build server.
Hetzner and DigitalOcean both document Coolify deployment options, but no supplied evidence proves that either is the best overall choice. Verify current prices, region, bandwidth, storage type and architecture support on the live plan page, then select the smallest tier that leaves room for your applications, images, volumes and builds.
