There is no universal lowest-latency provider: a data center’s advertised ping applies to its own test route, not automatically to your broker. Choose the region first, then verify the live connection from an MT4 terminal before moving a trading account.
What makes a VPS suitable for MT4
A virtual private server keeps Windows, MetaTrader 4 (MT4) and your Expert Advisors (EAs) running in a data center rather than on your home computer. If your computer is asleep, disconnected or switched off, the VPS can continue receiving prices and allowing an EA to manage an open position. That continuity is the main reason traders rent a VPS; it does not make a strategy profitable, improve its logic or guarantee an order fill.

For MT4, the relevant specification is not simply “forex VPS.” You need a Windows image that accepts your broker’s MT4 installer, enough CPU and memory for every terminal and chart, a network path to the broker’s actual trade server, and support that can recover a failed instance. A cheap plan in the wrong region can produce a worse connection than a more expensive plan nearby.
The decision order that avoids most mistakes
- Identify the broker’s trade-server location. The broker may operate servers in London, New York, Amsterdam, Hong Kong or another city. The company’s office location is not necessarily the location of the MT4 trade server.
- Select a VPS region with a short, stable route to that server. London and New York are common financial hubs, but neither is automatically correct for every broker.
- Count the workload. Include MT4 terminals, charts, indicators, EAs, symbol feeds and any scripts that run continuously.
- Check the complete Windows-inclusive price. Add licensing, backups, extra IP addresses and support charges before comparing plans.
- Require a written reliability and recovery policy. Look for an uptime SLA, restart or monitoring process, backup options and a refund or trial window.
- Measure the route from the deployed terminal. Sign in to the real trading account and record the ping shown by MT4 during representative market hours.
Region matters more than the “forex VPS” label
Find the broker’s actual trade server
Open the broker’s MT4 login details and note the server name selected under File > Login to Trade Account. Some brokers publish the city or data-center region; others expose only a server name. Ask support for the physical or network region if it is not clear. A VPS provider can advertise sub-5 ms to a named broker, yet your account may be assigned to a different cluster.
#1 Best Overall
Raff Technologies describes its latency figure as “round trip from the terminal to your broker.” That qualification is important: round-trip time changes with the VPS region, the broker’s assigned server and the network route between them. A provider’s generic test to a nearby city is not a substitute for the measurement inside your own account.
London or New York?
Use the broker’s server, not the currency pair, to decide. A broker serving a New York trade server should generally be tested from a US-east VPS; a broker’s London cluster should be tested from London or a nearby European location. Trading EUR/USD does not by itself require London, and trading USD/JPY does not by itself require New York.
Raff reports a median 8.6 ms measurement from its US-east VPS to Newark, New Jersey, recorded September 11, 2026, and 76.9 ms to London from the same region. Those figures illustrate the regional effect, but they apply only when the broker’s server is comparable to the tested destination. They are not a promise for every Raff customer or broker.

Measure after deployment
- Install the broker’s MT4 build on the VPS and log in with a demo account first.
- Confirm that the selected server is the same server used by the intended live account.
- Read the MT4 connection indicator in the lower-right status area; where your build exposes a numeric value, record the milliseconds shown. If your build displays only a connection state, use the terminal’s connection and journal information and ask the broker how to expose a numeric round-trip reading.
- Record readings during quiet periods and during the market sessions in which the EA will operate. Note the date, time, server name and VPS region.
- Repeat the test from another candidate region when the difference could change your decision. Choose the route that is consistently good, not a single unusually low result.
How much CPU and RAM does MT4 need?
Capacity depends on the number of terminals and the work each one performs. A terminal running a few charts and a light EA consumes far less than several terminals each calculating indicators across many symbols. Windows itself, broker updates, logs and monitoring also require headroom, so do not size a plan to the bare minimum shown by an installer.
One light terminal
The March 6, 2026 comparison lists FXVM at roughly 2 GB of RAM and describes it as realistically suitable for one MT4 terminal. AccuWeb Forex VPS is listed at $7.99 per month for light one- to two-terminal use. These are comparison descriptions rather than independent capacity tests. They are reasonable starting points for a small demo or a single, lightly loaded live terminal, but you should watch memory and CPU use after installing the exact EA set.

Several terminals or heavier EAs
VPSForexTrader’s entry plan is listed with 3 vCPU, 4 GB of ECC RAM and 120 GB of NVMe storage, and the March 6 comparison describes it as suitable for three to four MT4 terminals. That gives a clearer reference point for multi-terminal work than a 2 GB budget plan. The number still depends on charts, symbols, indicator calculations and EA behavior; treat it as the provider or comparison’s workload claim, not a guarantee.
If you run more than four terminals, or EAs that back-test, scan many symbols or write large logs, begin with a plan that leaves observable headroom. Scale one resource at a time and check Windows Task Manager while all terminals are connected. Persistent memory pressure can cause terminal restarts or missed work even when network latency is excellent.
Storage and processor checks
- CPU: Count active terminals and CPU-heavy calculations. Multiple virtual CPUs help concurrent terminals, but they do not reduce network distance.
- RAM: Leave space for Windows, MT4 updates and broker data. The comparison’s roughly 2 GB single-terminal and 4 GB three-to-four-terminal examples are workload references, not universal requirements.
- Storage: NVMe storage, such as the 120 GB listed for VPSForexTrader’s entry plan, helps installation and log access. Storage size matters when EAs retain tick data or logs, not just when MT4 is first installed.
- Network: A stable route and adequate transfer capacity matter more than an impressive port-speed headline for ordinary MT4 traffic.
Provider comparison for 2026
The figures below are published provider or comparison claims. They should be treated as starting evidence, not independent performance testing or a universal ranking.

What each candidate is suited to
VPSForexTrader: multi-terminal starting point
VPSForexTrader markets Windows Server hosting specifically for MT4 and EAs, rather than presenting a general-purpose server. Its published locations cover London, New York, Amsterdam and Hong Kong, which can help when your broker’s server is in one of those hubs. The entry configuration in the March 6 comparison—3 vCPU, 4 GB ECC RAM and 120 GB NVMe—targets a larger workload than the budget single-terminal offers.
The company claims sub-5 ms latency to named brokers and 99.99% uptime. Ask which broker, server and measurement window those claims describe, then reproduce the test from your account. Confirm whether the quoted $31.99 monthly price includes Windows licensing, backups, an IP address and support; the comparison does not itemize those components.
Rank #3
Raff Forex VM: transparent Windows cost and a testable SLA
Raff lists $28.99 per month all-in and identifies a $15 Windows Server Standard license inside that amount. That itemization makes it easier to compare with a headline compute price that may exclude Windows. Its 99.9% uptime SLA and 14-day money-back policy provide concrete terms to read before deployment.

Choose Raff for a broker whose server tests well from the offered region, not because the Newark number appears low. Verify the plan’s CPU, memory, storage, support response and any dedicated-IP charge before ordering, because those values were not stated in the cited pricing evidence.
FXVM: low-cost single-terminal lead
The comparison lists FXVM at $11.90 per month, with a $0.99 seven-day trial and roughly 2 GB of RAM. It characterizes the configuration as realistically suited to one MT4 terminal. That can fit a light EA when the route to the broker is good, but there is little capacity margin for multiple terminals or memory-heavy indicators.
Before paying beyond the trial, check the checkout total, Windows licensing, available regions, backup policy, support channel and the exact terminal limit. The comparison did not establish those details or an uptime figure.
AccuWeb Forex VPS: budget one- to two-terminal lead
AccuWeb Forex VPS is listed at $7.99 per month with a free seven-day trial and light one- to two-terminal capacity. It is the lowest listed price, but the comparison does not state the plan’s CPU, RAM, storage, region, Windows treatment or uptime evidence. Use the trial to test the actual broker route and to observe resource use rather than assuming the low price represents a complete monthly cost.

MT4 is normally deployed on a Windows VPS image. Confirm that the provider supplies a supported Windows Server version and allows the broker’s installer to run. Some EAs require DLL imports, external libraries or permission to write files. Ask whether those permissions are enabled and whether a security policy will block them.
Install the broker’s current MT4 build, then check that symbols, market-watch data, chart history and automated trading permissions work. Sign in to a demo account before using live credentials. If the broker uses a server-specific installer, download that installer from the broker rather than copying an old terminal directory from a home PC.
A dedicated IP is not automatically required for MT4. It becomes relevant if a broker uses IP allowlisting, if your EA depends on a stable address, or if the provider assigns addresses that change after a rebuild. Ask whether one IPv4 address is included, what an additional address costs and what happens to the address during recovery.

Read the SLA, not just the badge
An uptime percentage has meaning only with a measurement period, exclusions, maintenance notice rules and a remedy. VPSForexTrader claims 99.99% uptime; Raff lists a 99.9% uptime SLA. Those figures are not interchangeable guarantees for your terminal, broker connection or EA. Determine whether the SLA covers the virtual machine, the network, scheduled maintenance and support response.

Automated restart and monitoring
Ask how the provider detects a stopped VPS, a frozen terminal and a disconnected network interface. An automatic server restart can recover an operating-system failure, but it may not relaunch MT4 or re-enable automated trading. Configure Windows startup and MT4 terminal startup yourself where permitted, and verify recovery with a controlled reboot on a demo account.

Backups and account safety
Backups protect configuration and files; they do not reverse a market order. Determine how often snapshots run, how long they are retained, whether they are stored separately and whether restoration changes the IP address. Keep copies of EA settings, symbol lists and license files outside the VPS. Never place an unencrypted master password in a script or plain-text note.
Calculating the real monthly cost
Compare like for like. A low compute price may omit Windows, backup storage, an extra IP, migration help or priority support. Raff’s $28.99 price explicitly includes a $15 Windows Server Standard license, showing why an all-in figure can be more informative than a bare virtual-machine rate. FXVM’s $11.90 and AccuWeb’s $7.99 listings require checkout verification for licensing and add-ons. VPSForexTrader’s $31.99 comparison price should likewise be checked for the same inclusions.

Deployment checklist
- Write down the broker name, MT4 server name, account type and the symbols your EAs trade.
- Choose two candidate VPS regions based on that server, not on a generic “London” or “New York” label.
- Confirm Windows version, MT4 installer compatibility, DLL permissions, automated-trading policy and included IP addresses in writing.
- Deploy a trial or refundable instance and change the initial administrator password immediately.
- Install MT4, log in to a demo account and allow the terminal to download history.
- Attach one EA at a time, enable automated trading only after checking its settings, and watch CPU, memory, disk and network use in Windows Task Manager.
- Record MT4’s connection reading at several times, including the sessions when the strategy normally operates.
- Test a controlled restart, Windows update behavior and terminal auto-start before connecting a live account.
- Save configuration and EA files off the VPS, then document the provider’s support and recovery contacts.
Troubleshooting common VPS problems
Ping is higher than advertised
Check the MT4 server name first. If your account is assigned to a different broker cluster, move to the VPS region that tests closer to that cluster. Compare several readings rather than relying on a provider’s named-broker claim. If the route changed after deployment, ask support for a trace from the actual VPS and record the response.
MT4 disconnects while Windows remains online
Read the MT4 journal for reconnection messages, confirm the correct server is selected and check whether the broker has maintenance or an account restriction. A green Windows network icon does not prove that the broker session is healthy. Restart only after saving logs and checking whether the issue affects one terminal or every terminal on the VPS.
EA stops trading after a reboot
Confirm that MT4 launches at Windows startup, the chart still has the EA attached, automated trading is enabled and the required DLL or file permissions remain active. Run the recovery test on a demo account; do not assume a provider’s server restart will restore terminal state.
Memory or CPU reaches the limit
Close unused charts, reduce duplicate symbols and inspect which EA or indicator is consuming resources. If the workload is intentional, move to a plan with more CPU or RAM rather than running at the limit. The 2 GB single-terminal and 4 GB multi-terminal examples in the comparison are reference points, not a substitute for observing your own terminals.
How to choose among the listed plans
For three or four ordinary terminals, start by testing a configuration in the class of VPSForexTrader’s listed 3 vCPU/4 GB plan, provided its region matches the broker and its Windows price is confirmed. For a broker in or near Newark and a trader who values an itemized Windows cost, Raff’s US-east test and written 99.9% SLA are useful starting evidence; London-bound accounts should not infer performance from the Newark result. For a single light terminal, FXVM and AccuWeb are budget trials, but their low prices should be accepted only after verifying region, Windows inclusion, support and observed resource use.
Whichever plan you select, keep the account decision tied to the broker’s server and your measured MT4 connection. Latency, uptime and capacity are properties of the complete setup—broker assignment, route, terminal workload and operating system—not labels that transfer automatically from one provider to another.
