The May 2025 patch improved the KRIG C’s sustained-fire recoil and bullet velocity while slowing its aim-down-sights time, and raised the C9’s maximum damage. Activision’s notes do not provide a complete attachment recipe or ranked weapon-performance data, so there is no evidence-based way to name one definitive best pairing.
What changed in Season 03 Reloaded Ranked Play?
Season 03 Reloaded Ranked Battle Royale returned to Verdansk as a 150-player Trios mode. Activision’s May 13, 2025 patch notes describe changed Skill Rating (SR) values, an elimination SR cap raised from 150 to 200 per match, and revised restrictions. To unlock the Ranked queue, players had to earn top placements in 20 matches; for Battle Royale, that meant finishing among the top 15 teams.
Weapon choice was only one part of building a legal Ranked setup. The notes allowed all Modern Warfare weapons and listed the Blade Launcher as a restricted Black Ops 6 weapon, alongside limits on specific attachments, perks, loot, vehicles, and mechanics. Because restrictions can change, check the in-game Ranked rules before settling on a build. Activision also said launchers were unrestricted that season to counter vehicle dominance, and a Trophy System was added to the Buy Station to support safer vehicle rotations.
Reasoned loadout pairing: KRIG C and C9
KRIG C for longer-range fights
The KRIG C is a reasonable long-range slot to consider based on the studio’s stated changes, not a claim that it outperformed every alternative. Raven Software said the rifle’s recoil had held it back at range. On May 7, its first medium damage range increased from 32 to 33, its headshot multiplier rose from 1.2x to 1.35x, and bullet velocity increased from 820m/s to 830m/s. Sustained-fire recoil was improved, but aim-down-sights time slowed from 260ms to 280ms. That mix favors considering it for steadier ranged pressure while recognizing the slower handling.

C9 for close range
The C9’s maximum damage increased from 38 to 40 in the same May 7 update. Raven said the change was intended to bring it in line with other close-range SMGs. That makes it a sensible partner for a longer-range weapon when you expect close fights, but the change alone does not establish it as the best SMG in Ranked Play.
Together, the KRIG C and C9 cover different engagement ranges. Treat the pairing as a role-based starting point, then verify each weapon and attachment against the Ranked rules in your game. The official notes do not provide a full attachment configuration for this combination.

Other pairings covered at the time
A creator video published May 1, 2025 named the following combinations: Kilo 141/C9, TAQ-56/HRM-9, Cypher/Kompakt, TR2/KSV, Grau/Saug, AK-74/HDR, and AMAX/Ladra. These are examples of pairings covered contemporaneously, not proof that they were the strongest Ranked builds. The available video description does not state their attachments.
How to compare the options
- Range coverage: Consider whether one weapon is intended for longer engagements and the other for close fights.
- Handling tradeoffs: Compare recoil and bullet velocity with aim-down-sights time and mobility; a change that helps at range may make a weapon slower to bring up.
- Patch context: Account for the May 7 balance changes rather than treating older recommendations as unchanged.
- Ranked eligibility: Confirm the weapons, attachments, perks, and other items you intend to use are allowed by the current in-game rules.
Patch changes that affect other named options
AK-74
The AK-74’s maximum damage fell from 45 to 39 on May 7. Raven described the goal as giving SMGs more room at close range while keeping the AK-74 a good mid-to-long-range option. That is the studio’s stated intent, not comparative evidence that it beats other rifles.

CR-56 AMAX
The AMAX’s headshot multiplier dropped from 1.6x to 1.35x. Its sprint-to-fire time slowed from 190ms to 215ms, and aim-down-sights movement speed fell from 3.2m/s to 3m/s. These are relevant tradeoffs when considering the AMAX/Ladra pairing named in the contemporaneous creator video.
HDR
The HDR’s flinch resistance was reduced by 60%, with further reductions to the flinch-resistance benefits from Heavy and Combat Stock. That is a meaningful drawback to keep in mind for the AK-74/HDR example; the pairing’s inclusion in a video does not establish its Ranked performance.

What the evidence can—and cannot—establish
The official notes document the Ranked format, restrictions, and numerical weapon changes. They do not provide full attachment recipes, ranked pick rates, win rates, or head-to-head performance results. As a result, the most useful recommendation is to choose weapons by role and verify Ranked eligibility—not to treat any named pair as a statistically established winner.
