Swords for flexible duels
Swords offer a versatile choice for fights where you need to stab, slash, defend, and respond to openings. GamesRadar’s editorial assessment says swords, particularly longswords, are its preferred weapon type based on the author’s experience. That is a useful perspective, not a universal rule: a high slash figure alone does not make a sword the best answer to plate armor. Maces and hammers for armored targets
When an opponent is heavily armored, blunt damage is a more relevant comparison than a sword’s slash value. The Ramhead hammer is one named option, but its top-quality figure is not a blanket stat for all blunt weapons. Weight, speed, requirements, and your skill with the weapon still matter.

Axes for mixed damage
The Knight’s axe offers three damage types in one weapon, making it a flexible heavy option when you do not want to specialize entirely in blunt damage. Its slower handling compared with a sword and lower blunt value than the Ramhead make it a compromise rather than a best-in-class answer for every matchup.
Bows and crossbows for different ranges of use
A bow is the more practical choice when you expect to shoot repeatedly and can draw it effectively. A heavy crossbow can deliver a high-power opening shot, but its reload makes it less suited to repeated shots while enemies are pressing you. Choose by handling and tempo, not the power number alone.

The current KCD2 weapons guide recommends Henry’s reforged sword for the base-game story finale. Its top-quality entry has 169 stab, 161 slash, and 299 defense. The recommendation suits players who have reached the relevant late-story crafting stage; it is not an early-game pickup.
Choose the Duelling Longsword if its handling suits you
Beebom’s February 2025 ranking puts the Duelling Longsword first and reports 157 stab and 150 slash damage. That makes it a credible alternative, but the ranking does not establish that it outperforms every other sword in every encounter.

Choose the Sword of Sir Valentine for a one-handed setup
The Sword of Sir Valentine is the one-handed recommendation in the current guide. PCGamesN notes that its craftable top quality depends on Martin’s Secret, so do not assume that every copy or crafting route produces the same result. Beebom’s February 4, 2025 list names the Duelling Longsword; GamesRadar favors the Reforged Radzig Kobyla’s Sword based on the author’s experience; and the newer KCD2 guide recommends Henry’s reforged sword for the base-game story finale while separating recommendations by role. The available comparisons do not establish a controlled head-to-head winner.
What to check before upgrading or crafting
- Target and damage type: weigh stab, slash, and blunt against the opponent’s armor rather than choosing by the largest single number.
- Quality and condition: database figures describe top-quality items; a found or purchased copy may differ. INARA explicitly labels its weapon comparison data as top-quality values. INARA’s weapon database includes damage and requirement fields.
- Requirements and handling: confirm Strength and Agility requirements, weight, and whether the weapon’s speed fits your approach.
- Progression and crafting: check when the weapon becomes available and whether your route can craft its best quality.
- Perks and skill: practical performance depends on your weapon skill and perks, not just item stats.
- Ranged supplies and tempo: account for ammunition, draw ability, and crossbow reload time.
- DLC access: do not treat DLC-exclusive equipment as a base-game option. For example, INARA lists the Basilisk warhammer as DLC equipment, with 42 stab, 150 blunt, and 125 defense at top quality.
The player question “What weapon type should I upgrade to?” captures the decision many players face, but a discussion prompt is not evidence of a community consensus. The Reddit discussion is useful as phrasing, not as a ranking source.
