There is no single best weapon for every fight in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. For a straightforward choice against plate and other heavy armor, use a mace; choose a longsword when reach and swordplay matter more, an axe against less-protected foes, and a bow for ranged combat, hunting, or stealth. The right pick also depends on Henry’s attributes and weapon skill, enemy armor, and whether you can manage the weapon’s reach and handling.
How to choose a weapon
Think in matchups rather than a universal tier list. Armor changes how useful a weapon’s damage type is, while reach and Henry’s abilities affect whether he can use it effectively. Community-maintained game references describe the weapon classes and their tradeoffs; they are not an official balance guide or a firsthand comparative test.

- Enemy armor: blunt damage is a practical answer to heavy armor; blades are less effective against it.
- Reach and crowding: a longer weapon can help keep opponents at a distance, while a short weapon can leave Henry exposed when several enemies press in.
- Henry’s abilities: bows in particular depend on attributes and Bow skill. A weapon whose requirements exceed Henry’s capabilities may be a poor practical choice even if its listed values look attractive.
- Your preferred style: consider whether you want close-range blunt force, sword combos, a flexible axe, or a ranged option.
Weapon matchups
| Weapon | Best use | Main tradeoff | Practical choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mace | Heavily armored enemies | Short melee reach and limited combo potential; requires repairs from a kit or weaponsmith | Choose it for plate if you are comfortable fighting at close range. |
| Longsword | Reach, swordplay against lighter opponents, and horseback melee | Bladed damage is less effective against heavy armor; using a shield with a longsword is slower and prevents longsword combos | Choose it for reach and combos, but have another answer ready for plate. |
| Axe | Lightly armored or unarmored enemies | Effectiveness depends on the opponent’s armor and the particular axe | Use it as a flexible melee option against less-protected foes. |
| Bow | Ranged damage, hunting, and stealth | Requires suitable Strength, Agility, and Bow skill; models have different requirements and power | Choose a bow Henry can use well rather than one whose requirements he cannot meet. |
Which weapon is best against plate armor?
A mace is the clearest class-level recommendation. Its mostly blunt damage makes it useful against armor, where bladed weapons lose effectiveness. Its short reach is the price: Henry must close distance, which can be especially risky when facing a group. The reference also notes that mace upkeep requires a kit or a weaponsmith.
Is a mace better than a longsword?
Not in every situation. A mace is the more practical matchup for heavy armor, while a longsword offers more reach and combo options and suits lighter opponents. A longsword’s advantages do not erase its weaker performance against heavy armor. Choose based on the opponent and the kind of fight you want to manage, rather than treating either weapon as an unconditional upgrade.

When should you use an axe?
An axe combines slash and blunt damage, making it a flexible choice against lightly armored or unarmored enemies. The exact performance varies by weapon and target, so the class description supports a matchup recommendation—not a claim that every axe outperforms every sword or mace.
What is the best bow?
The useful bow is one Henry can wield effectively. Bow models vary in requirements and power, and the weapon reference identifies named examples such as the Ash longbow and Capon’s hunting bow. The available model information does not establish a complete, controlled comparison across all bows or gameplay conditions, so it does not support a universal winner. Check Henry’s Strength, Agility, and Bow skill against the model’s requirements before choosing.

St. George’s sword is identified as a named longsword, but the available information does not establish its acquisition route or support a complete ranking of endgame weapons. Treat it as a named option, not proven proof of the best weapon in the game. More broadly, the class-level recommendations here do not establish exact-item rankings, version-specific balance, or platform differences.
