For Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, choose by the job you need done: the Bonerattler SMG for enemy reveals, a shotgun or SMG for close fights, a rifle for longer engagements, or a weapon whose firing style suits your aim. Fortnitemares and playlist rotations affect what is available, so check your match’s loot pool before building a loadout.
Best Fortnite weapons by role
Epic’s current notes describe selected weapons and event changes, but do not publish a comparable ranking, damage-per-second table, or performance data for the full arsenal. The recommendations below are role-based guidance, not a tested tier list.

How to choose a weapon for your match
Start with the range you expect to fight at
Shotguns and SMGs are close-range options; rifles fill the longer-range role. Carry a mix that covers the fights you actually take rather than choosing solely by a weapon’s name or novelty. The official notes do not provide universal damage or range thresholds, so avoid treating any specific weapon as a guaranteed winner at a given distance.
Match firing behavior to your aim
Consider whether you prefer automatic fire, single shots, or charging a shot before release. The 8-Bit Shotgun is automatic, while the Mega Buster offers several firing behaviors. Those descriptions help you judge handling preference; they are not substitutes for trying a weapon in the current mode.

Value utility, but account for its conditions
The Bonerattler’s enemy reveal can help you identify opponents through walls, which may be more useful than a modest damage advantage in a particular situation. Freddy’s Nightmare is separate event utility: Epic describes it as a teleport-and-slash item obtained by defeating Freddy Krueger at Nightmare Neighborhood. It depends on the event and mode, so verify that it is present before planning around it. Epic’s Fortnitemares 2026 announcement and the Fortnitemares update describe the event.
Check how the weapon enters the loot pool
Not every item mentioned in the event update is ordinary floor loot. Last Call, Infantry Rifle, Pumpkin Launcher, and Light Machine Gun are identified as Loot Hacks, a conditional way to access items. The Drum Gun and Ranger Assault Rifle are listed as vaulted in that update. Returning, vaulted, and Loot Hack items should not be treated as a single always-available pool. Epic’s October 1 update

Availability depends on mode and event rotation
The Chapter 7 Season 4: Override announcement is dated August 20, 2026. Fortnitemares began October 1 and spans Battle Royale, Horde Rush, and Reload. Epic says only a portion of the event’s vaults and unvaults also affect Ranked and Competitive, so an item available in one mode may not be available in another. Epic’s updates establish selected weapon mechanics, event availability, and balance changes. They do not give a complete dated loot inventory for every playlist or a measured comparison of all weapons. There is therefore no sound basis here for a numerical tier list, a claim that one weapon has the highest win rate, or a damage-per-second ranking. Treat the shortlist as situational advice and adjust when Epic changes the pool or balance.

For players using a controller, Epic’s season notes discuss aim and sensitivity settings, but do not claim that controller hardware improves weapon performance.
