Shacknews’ August 2025 recommendation builds around Barrier Projector: keep enemies in or near Winston’s barrier, add electric damage and sustain, then improve Tesla Cannon’s pressure against groups. The sequence below is the guide’s published baseline; it is not a current-patch performance ranking.

- Tesla Field: Deals electric damage to enemies within Barrier Projector, supporting the build’s area-control plan.
- Circuit Breaker: Increases electric damage and grants overhealth based on electric damage dealt, pairing damage with sustain.
- Pocket Projector: Adds a smaller barrier to Winston when he activates Barrier Projector, offering extra protection when a fight stays close.
- Electro Cluster: Extends Tesla Cannon primary-fire reach and increases its damage when it hits multiple enemies.
The sequence makes the most sense when your team can contest space and enemies are likely to fight within Winston’s barrier. It combines close-range area pressure with defensive value rather than focusing only on ranged damage.
When to use secondary-fire alternatives
If you do not want to invest in the guide’s Ability Power-oriented line, Shacknews lists Lightning Rod, which makes secondary-fire shots bounce, and Volatile Volt, which lets secondary fire critically damage. These are alternatives, not established upgrades for every match. Consider them when ranged secondary-fire utility better fits the fight than the barrier-centered plan.

How much power should you target?
Shacknews says its tested build aimed for at least 20% Weapon Power and 35% Ability Power, and gives a training-bot example at 80% Ability Power. Those are targets and an example reported by that August 2025 guide—not official thresholds, universal requirements or results verified for the current game.

Blizzard describes Stadium as a best-of-seven mode. Its strategy guidance says players choose Powers before rounds 1, 3, 5 and 7, and recommends selecting complementary Powers, watching opponents’ choices and adapting purchases to counter their strategies. Apply that advice as a progression, not a fixed shopping script:

- Keep the barrier plan when fights are happening near Barrier Projector and Winston can make use of its area pressure and added protection.

- Consider ranged utility through Lightning Rod or Volatile Volt when secondary-fire options suit the engagement better than further Ability Power investment.
- Reassess at each Power selection rather than assuming the same choice or item priority will fit every round.
How current is this Winston Stadium build?
Blizzard’s 2025 Season 18 announcement said Winston joined the Stadium Hero rotation and that the mode received an expanded item pool, three new items, ten major item reworks and nine balance updates. Blizzard also said Winston was among the heroes whose Perks were updated. That later refresh is why the older Shacknews build should be dated and its exact names and numbers checked against the live game.
The cited sources do not establish a current Winston Stadium win rate, pick rate or independently verified best build. Community-submitted build indexes show that multiple archetypes exist, but do not validate one as superior. Treat barrier control versus ranged secondary-fire utility, Ability Power versus Weapon Power, and damage versus survivability as practical choices based on the match—not proven comparative rankings.
