Some Borderlands 4 players and build guides report that purple or epic Jakobs weapons can one-shot bosses in specific setups. The evidence does not point to one uniquely identified gun that reliably does this: the reported results depend on weapon parts, alternate-fire modes, damage bonuses, and character build.
Which purple gun can one-shot bosses in Borderlands 4?
There is no single confirmed weapon identifiable from the available reports. A Reddit post describes a purple Jakobs shotgun with a grenade alternate fire that dealt high burst damage and could one-shot bosses; that is an individual player’s account, not a verified property of every copy of the gun. Read the player discussion.
Other reports describe different configurations. A Vortex Gaming guide says the epic Scattering Stellium can one-shot bosses when it has a Jakobs accessory and an energy-disc secondary fire. The same guide describes a Kickballer setup that requires a Jakobs accessory and guaranteed critical hits. What makes the reported one-shot setups work?
Weapon parts and alternate fire
The reports emphasize specific parts and firing modes, rather than purple rarity by itself. The grenade alternate fire on the reported shotgun, the energy-disc secondary fire on the Scattering Stellium, and the Jakobs accessory condition on the guide’s Kickballer setup are distinct combinations. They should not be treated as names for one interchangeable weapon.

Damage boosts and build choices
A separate Reddit discussion about a Spread Launcher says a boss one-shot can depend on damage boosts, including a 200% amp repkit. That figure is part of an anecdotal player report, not a controlled damage measurement or a universal requirement. Read the Spread Launcher discussion.
A Mobalytics Harlowe build guide updated September 21, 2026 lists a Jakobs shotgun with Spread Launcher for boss one-shots and refers to a purple item with AMP and ENRAGE. This supports the idea that a particular build and item setup may matter; it does not establish that this is the exact gun described in the headline. See the Harlowe build guide.

The evidence consists of player anecdotes and third-party build advice, not official confirmation or controlled tests. Treat “one-shots bosses” as a description of a reported outcome under favorable conditions, not a promise about what any random purple Jakobs drop will do.

What to check if you find a candidate weapon
- Identify its manufacturer, weapon type, and parts rather than relying on the purple rarity color alone.
- Check whether it has the specific alternate fire or accessory described by the report you are comparing it with.
- Account for damage boosts and character-build effects; a result observed with those bonuses may not carry over without them.
- Keep the claim scoped to the tested or reported fight. The available evidence does not establish performance against every boss or after every update.
