For a nonprofit WordPress site that accepts donations, choose a paid host with a documented nonprofit rate and get the terms in writing before you migrate. In 2026, Kinsta is the clearest managed-WordPress option: approved nonprofits receive 15% off WordPress hosting, and the vendor says the discount can be combined with two free months on annual plans. FatLab Web Support documents 20% off plans, additional sites, and hourly development for 501(c)(3) organizations without an application. Claims about special nonprofit rates from other hosts are conflicting or come only from secondary guides, so they should not be part of your budget until sales confirms them.
This guide separates documented discounts from unverified claims, explains why a free tier can be a poor fit for a donation site, and gives you a practical way to choose, verify, configure, and maintain hosting with a small nonprofit team.

Quick answer: which host should a nonprofit choose?
Start with the way your organization operates rather than with a headline percentage. A volunteer-run site that needs fewer maintenance tasks generally benefits from managed WordPress hosting. A team with WordPress expertise may prefer a lower-cost plan and handle more updates itself. In either case, the discount is useful only if it covers the services you actually need and remains affordable at renewal.
| Provider | What is documented | Verification status | Important limits or questions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kinsta | 15% off WordPress hosting for approved nonprofits; two free months on annual plans can be combined with the nonprofit discount. | Confirmed on vendor pages and documentation. | Submit 501(c)(3) paperwork, or the local equivalent, to Sales. Discount applies to future payments, the nonprofit must have its own hosting account, and add-ons are excluded. |
| FatLab Web Support | 20% off all plans, extra sites, and hourly development for 501(c)(3) organizations. | Documented on its pricing page. | No application or approval is required according to the vendor page. Confirm what happens to the rate at renewal and which services count as “hourly development.” |
| WP Engine | A secondary guide says approximately 40% off for verified 501(c)(3)s. | Unverified. | The vendor’s “Engine for Good” material describes corporate giving, not a confirmed hosting discount. Ask Sales for written terms before using this figure. |
| Bluehost | Sources conflict: one 2026 guide says there is no nonprofit discount; an older guide claims 20% off for registered charities. | Unverified. | A first-year free domain is described in the 2026 guide, but that is not a nonprofit program. Confirm current renewal and nonprofit terms. |
| SiteGround | An older guide claims 20% off for registered charities; other coverage describes introductory discounts of about 50–75% for new customers. | Unverified. | Introductory pricing is not a nonprofit benefit and renews at a higher rate. Obtain a written quote for both the first term and renewal. |
| DreamHost | Secondary guides describe free shared hosting for verified US 501(c)(3)s. | No current official vendor listing was published. | Confirm availability, resource limits, support, backups, and whether donation processing is permitted. |
| InterServer | Secondary guides describe free hosting for US-registered nonprofits in exchange for a homepage backlink. | No current official vendor listing was published. | Confirm the backlink requirement, service limits, security features, and continuity terms before relying on it. |
The practical shortlist is therefore Kinsta for a managed setup with a documented discount, and FatLab when its broader 20% benefit and development support fit your team. The other offers may exist, but they are not established enough to treat as guaranteed savings.

What nonprofit hosting has to do well
Hosting is the server service that delivers your WordPress files, database, images, and security certificates to visitors. For a charity or community organization, the consequences of a poor choice are wider than a slow page: a failed campaign can interrupt donations, a compromised account can expose supporter information, and an expired renewal can take down the entire site.
Availability during campaigns
Traffic often arrives in bursts after an appeal, event, grant announcement, or news story. Ask how the plan handles temporary demand, whether resources can be increased without a migration, and what support channel is available when a campaign is live. Do not assume that a plan described as “unlimited” has unlimited processor or memory capacity; request the actual resource policy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBackups and restoration
A backup is useful only if you can restore it. Confirm how often files and the database are copied, how long versions are retained, where they are stored, and whether a restore is included or billed separately. Keep at least one backup outside the host account so a compromised login cannot destroy both the site and its backups.
Security and account separation
Use a separate hosting account for the nonprofit rather than placing its site inside a consultant’s personal account. Give each contributor an individual login, require multifactor authentication where offered, and remove access when a volunteer leaves. Ask whether the plan includes a web application firewall, malware monitoring, automatic WordPress updates, and free TLS certificates; if a feature is an add-on, include its recurring price in your comparison.
Support that matches your skills
Managed WordPress hosting generally shifts more server maintenance to the provider. Shared hosting usually costs less but leaves your team responsible for more plugin, theme, performance, and security decisions. Neither label guarantees good support. Before signing up, ask about response times, emergency support, staging sites, and whether staff can reach a WordPress specialist rather than a general billing queue.

Documented nonprofit discounts
Kinsta: 15% off, with an annual-plan benefit
Kinsta’s nonprofit information says approved nonprofits receive 15% off all monthly and annual WordPress hosting plans. Verification requires sending 501(c)(3) documentation, or the equivalent proof of charitable status in your country, to Kinsta Sales. The discount applies to future payments after verification, so ask when the approval takes effect if your first invoice is imminent.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The nonprofit must have its own hosting account. The discount covers the WordPress Hosting plan, not add-ons, and the vendor’s documentation says it can be stacked with an annual offer providing two free months. Request a written quote that lists the base plan, every add-on, taxes, the first billing date, and the renewal amount. A percentage applied only to the base plan can produce much less saving than a percentage applied to the whole invoice.
FatLab Web Support: 20% across listed services
FatLab’s pricing page states that 501(c)(3) organizations receive 20% off all plans, additional sites, and hourly development. The page says no application or approval is needed. That broader scope can matter to a nonprofit running several program sites or needing occasional developer help, because a discount on development time may be more valuable than a small reduction on hosting alone.
Clarify the organization’s eligibility, whether the rate is permanent, and how it appears on invoices. Ask for the price after the discount for each site, the minimum term, the renewal rate, and the treatment of emergency or out-of-hours work. Keep the vendor’s written response with your procurement records.
Offers that are not confirmed
WP Engine
A secondary guide reports approximately 40% off for verified 501(c)(3) organizations. No corresponding hosting discount is published in the vendor’s material. The vendor’s “Engine for Good” page concerns corporate giving rather than a clearly documented hosting discount. Treat the 40% claim as a lead for a sales conversation, not as an available rate. Ask for eligibility rules, the exact plan covered, the duration of the discount, and the renewal price in writing.

Bluehost
Evidence conflicts. A 2026 Zeffy guide says Bluehost has no nonprofit-specific discount and notes a first-year free domain as a general plan feature. An older guide claims 20% off for registered charities. Until Bluehost confirms a current program, budget using the normal plan and treat any nonprofit rate as upside rather than a certainty.
SiteGround
An older guide claims a 20% registered-charity discount. Other coverage describes introductory reductions of roughly 50% to 75% for new customers. An introductory price is not a nonprofit program and normally ends at renewal. Compare the full first-term total with the recurring price, and do not let a large first-year percentage determine a multiyear decision.
DreamHost and InterServer
Secondary guides describe free options for specific US nonprofits: free shared hosting for verified 501(c)(3)s at DreamHost and free hosting for US-registered nonprofits at InterServer in exchange for a homepage backlink. No current official vendor listing for either offer was published. Verify that the program is open, that your site qualifies, and that the service includes the backups, support, storage, email, and resource capacity your donation operation requires.
Why free hosting deserves extra scrutiny for donation sites
A free plan can be appropriate for a temporary informational page, a classroom project, or a low-traffic campaign microsite. It is a riskier default for a site that accepts donations. A secondary 2026 guide advises against free hosting tiers for any donation-accepting site; that is guidance rather than a universal rule, but the underlying checks are sensible.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Service continuity: establish what happens if the free program closes, changes eligibility, or limits traffic during your appeal.
- Resource limits: confirm storage, database size, CPU and memory policies, visitor limits, and whether overages can suspend the site.
- Backups: determine whether automated, restorable backups exist and whether they are retained separately from the live account.
- Security: verify TLS, malware response, account isolation, patching, and the process for a compromised administrator account.
- Brand and trust: check for forced advertising, a required backlink, subdomains, email restrictions, and any branding that could make a donation page look unofficial.
- Payment compatibility: confirm that your donation plugin or hosted payment form is permitted and that outbound email, webhooks, and updates work reliably.
If the free option fails any of these checks, a low-cost paid plan is the safer budget choice. A short outage or lost campaign can cost more than a year of hosting.

Managed WordPress or shared hosting?
| Choose managed WordPress when… | Choose shared hosting when… |
|---|---|
| Your staff has limited server experience and needs routine WordPress maintenance handled for them. | You have someone who can manage updates, plugin conflicts, backups, and performance settings. |
| You value staging, specialist support, and a simpler recovery process over the lowest advertised price. | The site is small, traffic is predictable, and the plan’s resource policy is sufficient. |
| A campaign failure would be costly and you want a clear escalation path. | You can accept more hands-on work and have tested off-site backups. |
Managed hosting does not remove the need to update plugins, review administrator accounts, test forms, or monitor donations. Shared hosting does not automatically mean poor performance. The deciding factor is whether your team can consistently perform the tasks the cheaper plan leaves to you.
How to verify a nonprofit rate before signing
- Confirm legal eligibility. Ask whether the host accepts your country’s equivalent of a US 501(c)(3), and which document it requires.
- Request a written quote. Have Sales list the plan, sites, storage or traffic limits, add-ons, taxes, setup fees, billing cycle, discount duration, and renewal price.
- Check the scope. Determine whether the percentage applies to only WordPress hosting or also backups, extra sites, staging, email, security, and development.
- Check timing. For Kinsta, approval applies to future payments; ask whether an initial invoice is charged before verification and whether a refund or credit is possible.
- Model three years. Add the first term, every renewal, domain renewal, required add-ons, migration work, and likely development hours. Do not use an introductory discount as the long-term price.
- Confirm account ownership. Register the account to the nonprofit’s organizational email and store billing and recovery details in an approved password manager.
- Test support before migration. Send a presales question about backups, restoration, and a traffic spike. The clarity and speed of the answer are useful evidence.
Set up a donation-ready WordPress site
Before you move the site
- Inventory domains, DNS records, email accounts, plugins, themes, scheduled jobs, payment integrations, and administrator users.
- Export a complete database and file backup, then verify that it can be opened or restored in a test location.
- Record the current PHP, WordPress, theme, and plugin versions so you can reproduce the environment if a migration fails.
- Schedule the cutover outside a major appeal and lower the domain’s DNS time-to-live in advance if your DNS provider allows it.
During migration
- Create the new hosting account in the nonprofit’s name and enable multifactor authentication.
- Build a staging copy or temporary URL and check the home page, donation flow, forms, email delivery, redirects, media, search, and accessibility.
- Update WordPress, themes, and plugins only after the staging copy has a verified backup. Resolve compatibility errors before changing DNS.
- Install or confirm TLS and force HTTPS. Check that donation forms and payment callbacks use the HTTPS address.
- Switch DNS, monitor the old and new sites during propagation, and keep the old account available until forms, receipts, and analytics have been tested from an external connection.
- After the cutover, rotate migration credentials, confirm scheduled backups, and document the restore procedure for another staff member.
Ongoing maintenance for a small nonprofit team
Assign ownership for each recurring task instead of assuming “the website” belongs to everyone. Review administrator accounts monthly, apply WordPress and plugin updates on a staging copy when possible, and test a donation transaction after significant changes. Check backup success reports, disk or resource usage, uptime alerts, and domain and TLS renewal dates. Keep a written incident plan with the host’s support route, the payment provider’s emergency contact, and the person authorized to take the site offline.
Recommended Free Tools
Separate content permissions from technical permissions. Most editors do not need administrator access. Use a shared organizational email for the hosting account, but individual logins for people who work on the site. When a volunteer’s term ends, remove the account immediately and rotate any shared secrets.
Budgeting without being misled by percentages
Build the budget from the recurring invoice, not the largest discount in an advertisement. For each candidate, record:
- the first billing period and whether it is monthly or annual;
- the nonprofit discount and the services it covers;
- the renewal price after any introductory term;
- domain registration or renewal, email, backups, staging, security, and other add-ons;
- migration, development, or emergency-support charges; and
- the staff time required to maintain the site.
Kinsta’s two free months on annual plans and 15% nonprofit reduction should be modeled together only after Sales confirms how they are applied. FatLab’s 20% statement includes additional sites and hourly development, so list those separately if your organization will use them. For unverified programs, use the undiscounted price in the approved budget and revise it only when you have written terms.

Google Ad Grants is separate from hosting
Google Ad Grants and Google for Nonprofits are separate programs, not hosting discounts. Your host does not determine eligibility, and selecting a host does not grant access to advertising credits. Keep grant research and hosting procurement as separate decisions, and verify current eligibility rules directly with Google before making a grant-dependent forecast.

You run one donation site with little technical capacity
Request a written Kinsta quote, including the 15% nonprofit rate, annual two-free-month offer, add-ons, and renewal. Compare the total with FatLab’s 20% offer and the support each plan includes. Select the service with the clearer restoration process and support response, not merely the larger percentage.
You operate several program sites
Ask FatLab to price the additional sites and hourly development under its stated 20% benefit. Compare the resulting total with a managed provider that charges separately for each site. Confirm account separation, backup retention, and who can deploy changes across sites.
You have a technically capable volunteer and a very small budget
Evaluate a paid shared plan first. If you investigate a free DreamHost or InterServer program, verify eligibility, resource limits, backups, payment compatibility, backlink or branding obligations, and what happens if the program ends. Keep an off-site backup and a migration plan.
You are considering an unverified discount
Ask the provider for the exact nonprofit terms in writing and budget as if the discount does not exist until it is approved. This is especially important for the reported WP Engine, Bluehost, and SiteGround rates.
