What Bethesda teased before the reveal
Bethesda-associated accounts shared an image that showed a warrior’s eye alongside the Roman numeral “IV,” a clear nod to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The announcement was scheduled for April 22, 2025, at 11 a.m. ET / 8 a.m. PT, with a livestream planned through Bethesda’s YouTube and Twitch channels, according to Windows Central’s contemporaneous report.
Was Oblivion Remastered confirmed to shadow-drop?
No. Before the announcement, Windows Central described a same-day release as unconfirmed. Bethesda’s April 22 reveal then confirmed that the game was available that day. The teaser established the reveal timing, not the launch plan.
When and where did Oblivion Remastered launch?
Bethesda announced the remaster as available on April 22, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, and cited Game Pass access at launch. Bethesda’s launch announcement lists those platforms. Xbox Wire’s launch coverage also identifies Steam, the Xbox app for Windows PC, cloud, and PlayStation 5 as access routes and describes Xbox Play Anywhere support. These are launch-era statements; check the current store or Game Pass catalog for present availability.

What does the remaster include and change?
Bethesda describes refreshed visuals and refined gameplay for modern hardware. The Standard Edition includes the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine story expansions, as well as additional downloadable content. The Deluxe Edition adds quests, Akatosh- and Mehrunes Dagon-themed equipment, and a digital artbook and soundtrack app, according to Bethesda’s product announcement.
Xbox Wire says the original Creation Engine game remains the core, with visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5. Its launch description lists updates to the HUD, menus, map, persuasion and clairvoyance interfaces, leveling, encumbrance, enemy scaling, accessibility features, autosaves, and first- and third-person cameras. These are product descriptions, not independent performance-test results.

Bethesda Game Studios said in its April 22, 2025 launch message: “We never wanted to remake it – but remaster it – where the original game was there as you remember playing it, but seen through today’s technology.” Bethesda says Virtuos partnered on the project; Virtuos’ launch message says work began in 2021 and describes remastered art, animation, effects and parts of the world, some newly recorded voices, and updates to game systems.

Bethesda announced a Nintendo Switch 2 version for August 11, 2026; that date has passed. Its June 30, 2026 announcement describes a physical Deluxe Edition cartridge containing the full base game, both story expansions, additional DLC, and digital bonus equipment. The announcement establishes the format and contents, but does not establish current retailer stock or pricing.
