Beyond Games and Hobby officially opened its co-located Bunbury CBD store on Saturday, 9 November 2024, after taking control of the Toyworld business in July. The renovation preserved the toy store’s heritage identity while adding Beyond’s gaming operation and customer gaming rooms. This is a historical account of the opening; Beyond’s current official website lists a different Bunbury address.
When did Beyond Games and Hobby open in Bunbury CBD?
The store’s official opening took place on 9 November 2024. The date is established by a PerthNow/Bunbury Herald report published on Tuesday, 12 November, which described the opening as having taken place the previous Saturday. The report said dozens of community members came to see the activities and gaming range, and quoted owner Matt Denham: “We had a queue outside the door at opening.” These are the report’s observations, not a formal attendance count. PerthNow/Bunbury Herald, 12 November 2024.
Why were Beyond and Toyworld co-located?
Beyond took control of the Bunbury Toyworld business in July 2024, before the CBD opening. The renovation joined the existing toy-store business with Beyond’s gaming operation, retaining the heritage toy-store identity while converting storage space into gaming rooms for customers. The opening report described staff as busy on the day and noted visitors could explore the activities and gaming range. PerthNow/Bunbury Herald, 12 November 2024.
How the Toyworld purchase began
Denham said the acquisition started with a practical hobby need: he had difficulty finding plastic glue at Beyond’s former Homemaker Centre location and went to Toyworld, where former owners Rick and Harvey Baker sold him a case. Denham said the conversation continued because he knew the business was for sale, and he soon found himself making an offer. He described the Bakers as “really friendly and really helpful.” This is Denham’s account of how the purchase began, as reported by the Bunbury Herald.

What changed for the business and community?
The expansion added the equivalent of two full-time employees, according to the 2024 report. Denham said he believed the business could contribute something new and dynamic to the CBD; that is his view, rather than a measured finding about the store’s economic impact. The opening report also described dozens of community members visiting, but did not give a formal footfall total. PerthNow/Bunbury Herald, 12 November 2024.
