When Windows reports a problem with bhips.dll, the most likely cause is a damaged or partly removed Baidu Antivirus component, not a missing Windows file.
The 60-second answer
bhips.dll is associated with Baidu Antivirus HIPS Driver Communication, a third-party security component. It is not a Windows system DLL, Microsoft Visual C++ runtime file, DirectX component, or ordinary Windows hardware driver.
The safest repair is to identify the Baidu program or leftover startup entry requesting the file, then repair or reinstall that parent software. If you no longer use the Baidu product, uninstall it completely and remove its leftover startup reference instead of downloading a loose DLL.
Do not copy bhips.dll into C:WindowsSystem32. A random replacement may be the wrong architecture, damaged, modified, or missing other files required by the original installation.

What the error messages mean
You may see one of these messages:
- “The program can’t start because bhips.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading bhips.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because bhips.dll was not found.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located in the dynamic link library bhips.dll.”
- “bhips.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
“Missing” usually means the requesting program cannot find the file where it expects it. “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that bhips.dll exists but one of its dependent files is missing. An entry-point error usually indicates an incompatible or incorrect version.
Public file records associate the filename with Baidu Antivirus and describe it as “Baidu Antivirus Hips Driver Communication,” with Baidu, Inc. listed as the publisher. Catalogue records also list a 32-bit build and a version number, but those are database metadata rather than a current Baidu specification. They should not be treated as proof that every copy of the file must have the same size, version, or hash.
Why bhips.dll is missing or cannot load
The usual causes are:
- Baidu Antivirus was partly uninstalled. The main program was removed but a startup entry, service, or helper remained.
- An update or repair damaged the installation. The DLL may have been deleted while the program still expects it.
- Security software quarantined the file. Windows Security may have removed a suspicious or corrupted copy.
- A Baidu utility still starts with Windows. An old installer, PC utility, or security component may reference the DLL.
- A dependency or architecture mismatch exists. The file may be present, but another required DLL is missing, or a 32-bit application is being given an incompatible component.
- Windows has broader component corruption. This is less specific to
bhips.dll, but it can cause several programs to fail at once. - A recent installation or malware event changed the system. System Restore may help if the failure began after a known change.
There is no reliable evidence that one particular game, Adobe application, Windows update, or mainstream program universally causes this error. The executable named in the message matters.
Step 1: Identify the program requesting the file
Before replacing anything, record:
- The complete error text
- The window title
- The executable name, if shown
- The path displayed in the message
- Whether it appears during startup, login, or when opening a specific program
Then search for the file without deleting or replacing it.

cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
where /r C: bhips.dll
This search can take a long time. Also inspect any path included in the error itself.
Next, check which installed program may own the reference:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for Baidu Antivirus, Baidu PC Faster, PC App Store, or another Baidu product.
- Note whether the software is still installed before choosing repair or removal.
For a startup error with no obvious parent program, use Microsoft Sysinternals Autoruns:
- Download Autoruns from Microsoft’s official Sysinternals page.
- Extract the archive and run the version matching your Windows architecture.
- Right-click Autoruns and select Run as administrator.
- Press Ctrl+F.
- Search for
bhips.dll, then repeat the search forBaidu. - Inspect the Image Path, Publisher, and entry type.
- Do not disable or delete an entry until you know which installed program owns it.
Look under startup entries, services, scheduled tasks, and logon-related entries. If the path points to an abandoned Baidu folder, the problem is probably a stale reference rather than a Windows failure.

Step 2: Repair the Baidu installation
If Baidu Antivirus or a related Baidu utility is still installed, repair the complete installation rather than sourcing the DLL separately.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the Baidu product.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair or Reset, depending on what Windows provides.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the program or wait for the startup message to return.
Some desktop applications do not expose a Repair button in Settings. In that case:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select the Baidu product.
- Choose Change, Repair, or the vendor’s maintenance option.
- Complete the wizard and restart.
If repair is unavailable or fails, reinstall the complete parent product only from a trustworthy installer supplied by the original vendor. The exact current Baidu Antivirus installer, support status, architecture, and release details could not be verified publicly, so do not treat a third-party DLL catalogue as an official download source.
If you no longer want the software, skip reinstallation and uninstall it cleanly instead:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the Baidu product.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the product’s removal wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Run Autoruns again and confirm that the old
bhips.dllor Baidu entry is gone.
If the uninstaller is broken, Microsoft’s program-installation and removal troubleshooter may help remove a damaged entry. Do not simply delete registry values before identifying the program that owns them.
Step 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Windows Security may have quarantined the file.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review detections matching the Baidu installation path or
bhips.dll. - Open a detection to see its path, threat name, and action.
- Restore the file only if the path, publisher, and digital signature match a legitimate original installation.
A filename alone is not proof of safety. A copy in a legitimate Baidu installation directory is more credible than one in a temporary folder, user profile, or unrelated application directory. Right-click the file, select Properties, and inspect the Digital Signatures tab if one is present. Also scan the file with Windows Security.
If the file is unsigned, located somewhere suspicious, or detected as malicious, do not whitelist it merely to stop the error. Remove the obsolete parent software and run a full Windows Security scan. If malware remains suspected, use Windows recovery options rather than restoring an unverified DLL.
Microsoft notes that restoring a detected file can cause Windows Security to detect it again unless the file is explicitly allowed. That is not a reason to allow it automatically. Verify the installation first.

Step 4: Repair Windows components separately
System File Checker and DISM repair protected Windows components. They generally do not recreate a third-party Baidu DLL, but they are appropriate if other Windows features are also failing.
- Press Start and type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run DISM first:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Run System File Checker:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows after both commands finish.
- Test the affected program again.
DISM should complete successfully before SFC is run. If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, restart and test. If it reports that some files could not be repaired, repeat the Baidu installation investigation rather than assuming bhips.dll will be restored by Windows.

Step 5: Check architecture and dependent files
A 64-bit edition of Windows can run 32-bit applications. A catalogue-listed copy of bhips.dll may be 32-bit, so the application’s architecture matters more than the operating system’s label.

Do not replace a 32-bit application DLL with a 64-bit copy, or vice versa. The safest approach is to reinstall the complete parent application so it restores the matching DLL and all dependencies together.
If the error says “module not found” even though a search locates bhips.dll, the missing item may be a dependency. Reinstalling the parent software is more reliable than trying to identify and download individual supporting files.
Do not assume that installing Visual C++ will provide bhips.dll. Microsoft’s Visual C++ redistributables supply Microsoft runtime components for applications built with MSVC; they do not supply arbitrary vendor DLLs.
Step 6: Consider a driver issue only when evidence points there
The name “HIPS Driver Communication” can make this file look like a conventional hardware driver, but bhips.dll is associated with Baidu Antivirus, not a GPU, audio, chipset, printer, or other Windows hardware package. Device Manager will not normally restore this file.
Use Device Manager only if the error appears alongside a genuine hardware-driver problem:

- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand categories such as Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, Network adapters, and System devices.
- Look for a warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device and select Properties.
- Read the status under the General tab.
- Use Update driver, Roll Back Driver, or Uninstall device only when the device itself is implicated.
- Restart Windows and install the current driver from the hardware manufacturer if required.
Do not install a hardware driver merely because a DLL utility labels bhips.dll as a driver file.

Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 is for COM and OLE DLLs that provide the registration entry points Windows expects. An application-support DLL such as bhips.dll is not automatically a COM server.

It may produce an entry-point or compatibility error and does not restore the missing parent application, services, dependencies, or configuration.
If vendor documentation specifically identifies a DLL as a COM component, use the registration command supplied by that vendor. On 64-bit Windows, Microsoft specifies %SystemRoot%SysWOW64regsvr32.exe for a 32-bit COM DLL. That technical detail does not mean bhips.dll should be registered.
When System Restore is appropriate
Use System Restore if the error began immediately after installing software, applying an update, or removing security software.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select a restore point from before the failure.
- Choose Scan for affected programs.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore does not replace personal files, but it can remove applications or drivers installed after the selected restore point. If no suitable restore point exists, repair or remove the parent Baidu software instead.
What not to do
- Do not download
bhips.dllfrom a random DLL website. - Do not copy it into
System32or another global Windows folder. - Do not replace a suspicious file simply because its filename matches.
- Do not install Visual C++ expecting it to supply a Baidu DLL.
- Do not delete registry entries before identifying their owner.
- Do not run
regsvr32without evidence that the file is a COM server. - Do not whitelist an unsigned or suspicious file in Windows Security.
A loose download can contain malware, use the wrong version or architecture, or fail because the real problem is a missing dependency or stale startup entry. Use Windows’ built-in repair and uninstall paths, the original vendor’s complete installer when available, and Microsoft’s official diagnostic tools.

Is bhips.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with Baidu Antivirus and is not a standard Microsoft Windows component.

No. Repair or reinstall the Baidu program that supplied it, or uninstall that abandoned program and remove its startup reference.
Why does the error appear after Baidu was uninstalled?
The uninstall may have left a startup entry, service, scheduled task, or helper that still points to the DLL. Autoruns can reveal the remaining reference.
Will SFC restore bhips.dll?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows files, while bhips.dll is a third-party Baidu component.
Why does a 32-bit DLL appear on 64-bit Windows?
Many 32-bit applications run normally on 64-bit Windows. The DLL must match the application that loads it, not simply the operating system.
