bidispl.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows system DLL used by the Bidi Spooler, not a game runtime or a file you should download from a random DLL site. If Windows says it is missing or cannot load it, repair Windows components first, then investigate the printer driver, application, security software, or dependency that triggered the error.
What this file actually does
“Bidi” means bidirectional. In Windows printing, bidirectional communication allows the operating system, printer drivers, and printer software to exchange status and configuration information with a printer. That can include details such as whether a printer is ready, which options are installed, or whether a print job encountered a device condition.

Microsoft documents bidispl.dll as the implementation library behind the IBidiSpl and IBidiSpl2 interfaces. These interfaces are used by printer applications, print providers, port monitors, language monitors, and printer drivers.
The file is normally part of Windows:
C:WindowsSystem32bidispl.dllis the native system copy on 64-bit Windows.C:WindowsSysWOW64bidispl.dllis the 32-bit Windows-on-Windows copy on 64-bit Windows.
The names can be confusing. On 64-bit Windows, System32 contains 64-bit system files, while SysWOW64 contains 32-bit system files. A 32-bit printer utility may use the 32-bit copy through WOW64, while a native 64-bit application uses the native copy. Do not swap these files manually.

The exact version, size, and hash depend on your Windows release, architecture, language, and servicing level. Microsoft’s description of the Bidi Spooler interfaces is more useful for identification than an online file inventory.

Error text varies by Windows version and the program displaying it. You may see messages including:
- “The program can’t start because bidispl.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because bidispl.dll was not found.”
- “There was a problem starting bidispl.dll.”
- “Error loading bidispl.dll.”
- “bidispl.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
“Specified module could not be found” does not always mean that bidispl.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found the named file but failed to load a dependency beside it or inside the calling printer package.

Fix 1: Install Windows updates, then restart
A failed update or incomplete servicing operation can leave the Windows component store inconsistent.
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update. On Windows 10, open Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Retry printing or launch the program that displayed the error.
If the issue began immediately after a driver or update installation, note that timing. It helps determine whether you should later use System Restore.
Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM, then SFC
This is the safest general repair when bidispl.dll is missing from the Windows directories, several programs cannot print, or Windows reports that a protected file is damaged. DISM repairs the Windows component store, and SFC uses that repaired source to replace corrupted protected files.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window just because progress appears to pause.
- After DISM completes successfully, run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the printer and the affected application.
A successful result may say that SFC did not find any integrity violations, or that it found corrupt files and repaired them. If the error remains, repeat the test after restarting rather than copying a replacement DLL.

Repeating SFC without repairing the component store does not address every failure. Outbyte PC Repair can show what its scan finds and automate the repair through its full version, but Microsoft’s DISM and SFC commands remain the appropriate built-in path and paid software is not required.
If DISM cannot find repair files
DISM normally obtains repair content through Windows Update. If that source is unavailable or damaged, Microsoft documents using a matching Windows installation or network source:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
Replace C:RepairSourceWindows with a genuine repair source that matches your installed Windows edition, language, architecture, and servicing state. Do not point DISM at an arbitrary downloaded folder.
After DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow
If SFC says it found corrupt files but could not repair some of them, inspect the relevant entries with:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%LogsCBSCBS.log >"%userprofile%Desktopsfcdetails.txt"
This creates sfcdetails.txt on your desktop. If the problem continues, use System Restore or a Windows repair reinstall rather than manually replacing bidispl.dll.
Fix 3: Update or reinstall the printer driver and software
If the error occurs while installing a printer, opening printer properties, starting a print monitor, or launching a vendor control panel, the affected driver package may be incomplete even though Windows itself is healthy.
First remove the printer:
- Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected printer.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
- Restart Windows.
Then check Device Manager:
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and, where relevant, Universal Serial Bus controllers or Ports.
- Right-click an entry clearly associated with the affected printer.
- Choose Uninstall device.
- If Windows offers Attempt to remove the driver for this device, select it only when you are removing the affected vendor package.
- Restart.
Install the current driver and printer software from the printer manufacturer’s official support page or through Windows Update. Use the package intended for your Windows version and system architecture. Avoid installing a 32-bit driver package merely because the failing utility is 32-bit unless the manufacturer specifically provides that supported arrangement.

printui.exe /s /t2
Use the Drivers tab carefully. Remove only the package belonging to the failed printer, and do not remove a driver currently used by another working device.
Driver pages can require hunting through model numbers and comparing packages manually. Outbyte Driver Updater can show which driver updates its scan detects and apply installs through its full version, but reinstalling the exact printer package from the manufacturer remains the definitive fix for a driver-specific failure.
Fix 4: Check Microsoft Defender Protection history
If bidispl.dll disappeared after a security alert, do not immediately restore it. First verify what Windows detected and where the file was located.
- Open Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Expand any event related to
bidispl.dll. - Check the detected path, threat name, and action taken.
A copy in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 should still be validated by its Microsoft signature and Windows integrity checks. To inspect a file that remains on disk:

- Open File Explorer and navigate to the relevant Windows directory.
- Right-click
bidispl.dlland select Properties. - Open the Digital Signatures tab.
- Review the signer and signature status.
An unusual location, missing signature, or detection that identifies tampering is a reason to scan rather than whitelist the file. Run a Microsoft Defender scan and let Windows repair the protected component. Microsoft warns that restoring a genuinely malicious file can expose the system.
Fix 5: Check architecture and dependencies
A 32-bit application on 64-bit Windows can use the 32-bit system copy in SysWOW64. A 64-bit application uses the native copy in System32. A 32-bit DLL cannot be used as a substitute for a 64-bit DLL, and copying the native file into a program folder can create a different loader failure.
If only one application fails:
- Note the exact executable and printer utility named in the error.
- Update or reinstall that application from its official source.
- Update or reinstall its printer integration package.
- Check Event Viewer by opening Start, typing Event Viewer, and selecting Windows Logs > Application.
- Look for an error at the time of the failure that names the application, driver, or another module.
If “the specified module could not be found” persists while bidispl.dll exists in the expected Windows directory, the missing item may be a dependency of the printer software. Reinstalling a Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET package will not provide bidispl.dll; install those only when the affected application separately identifies one of those runtimes.
Why regsvr32 and loose DLL downloads are usually wrong
regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose the appropriate registration entry points. It does not recreate a missing file, repair the Windows component store, or fix a broken printer driver. Running:

regsvr32 bidispl.dll
is not the normal response to a missing-file error. Use it only when a specific printer installation procedure or registration error explicitly requires it and you have the correct matching Windows file.
Do not download bidispl.dll from a random DLL repository and copy it into System32, SysWOW64, or an application folder. The file may contain malware, have the wrong architecture, come from a different Windows build, lack a valid Microsoft signature, or leave the underlying component-store or driver problem untouched.
The safe sources are Windows Update, DISM using a matching official repair source, SFC, an official Windows installation medium, and the printer manufacturer’s official driver package.

Use System Restore when the failure began after a driver, application, or update and a restore point predates the change.
- Open Start and search for Recovery.
- Select Recovery.
- Choose Open System Restore.
- Select a restore point from before the problem.
- Review affected programs and confirm the restore.
System Restore normally rolls back system files and settings without removing personal files.
On supported Windows 11 systems, another option may be available:
- Open Start > Settings > System > Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Select Reinstall now.
- Follow the prompts.
This reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings. Menu availability depends on the Windows version, edition, update state, and device policy. An in-place reinstall from official Windows installation media is another escalation path when the repair option is unavailable.

If files continue disappearing, SFC repeatedly reports unrepaired corruption, or other applications show damaged files, back up important data and investigate storage health or malware before continuing normal printer troubleshooting.

Is bidispl.dll a virus?
The filename identifies a legitimate Microsoft Windows printing component. The filename alone does not prove that every copy is safe. Check its expected Windows path, digital signature, Defender history, and Windows integrity results.
Is bidispl.dll part of a game?
No. It belongs to Windows printing. A game or unrelated application may trigger the loader message because it initializes a printer, print dialog, overlay, or another component that depends on Windows printing interfaces.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Not to obtain bidispl.dll. Those packages do not provide this Windows print DLL. Install them only if the application separately reports a missing runtime.
What if the file is present but the error remains?
Treat that as a possible dependency, driver, architecture, signature, or component-store issue. Run DISM followed by SFC, inspect the printer package and Event Viewer, and reinstall the affected official printer software.
