Big Bang Pro Wrestling on Switch is a charming but demanding retro wrestling game. Its unusual match types, tournament and story play, local multiplayer, and rewind feature give it character; its compact, timing-heavy controls can make matches feel imprecise until you learn them. It is best suited to fans who enjoy older wrestling games and are willing to practice—not players looking for online matches or modern, immediately intuitive controls.
What’s included in the Switch version?
SNK’s digital Switch release arrived on March 30, 2022. Nintendo’s US listing advertises ten fighters, individualized finishing moves, and two unusual match formats: Coffin Death Match and Reward Death Match. Finishing moves require specific conditions, rather than being available at any moment. In Coffin Death Match, the objective is to throw your opponent into a coffin; Reward Death Match centers on taking a reward. Nintendo’s US store listing also identifies handheld, tabletop, and TV play, with Japanese, British English, and American English support.

The modes offer more than standard one-on-one bouts. Reviews describe solo matches, tournaments with eight combatants, story or arcade-style play, and additional match rules such as no-disqualification and pole matches. The exact mode mix is a notable part of the game’s appeal: it gives this compact retro release several ways to approach a wrestling card, rather than relying on a large roster or elaborate simulation systems.
How do the controls feel?
The controls are the main hurdle. Big Bang Pro Wrestling uses a two-button system with context-sensitive actions: positioning and timing determine whether inputs produce actions such as grapples, Irish whips, slams, taunts, or a character’s finisher. That simplicity is not the same as ease. Reviews found grapple timing and attack spacing difficult to judge, and a move that seems straightforward may take practice to execute consistently.

The game includes an in-game manual, which is worth consulting before concluding that a move is unresponsive. The rerelease also offers customizable controls and rewind, useful options when learning the system or recovering from a mistimed exchange. Rewind reduces some frustration, but it does not remove the underlying emphasis on timing and positioning.
Can you play with a friend, and is there online multiplayer?
Yes, the Switch release supports local VS Match for one or two players on a single system. Nintendo explicitly says online functions are disabled, so there is no online multiplayer. The UK Nintendo listing also identifies Pro Controller compatibility; a second compatible controller may be useful for local play, depending on the controllers you already have. Nintendo’s UK listing provides that compatibility detail.

Is Big Bang Pro Wrestling worth buying on Switch?
It is a reasonable pick for players who want a distinct retro wrestling experience, especially if local play and unusual match rules matter more than online features. Its modes and rewind option add welcome flexibility, but the control system asks for patience: the short set of basic inputs still depends on learning context, spacing, and timing.
If you mainly want a modern wrestling game with a broad, immediately accessible control scheme or online competition, this is a poor fit. For fans who enjoy learning an older game’s rhythms—and particularly for two people sharing a system—it has more personality and variety than its compact format might suggest. The 2022 reviews reflect that split: praise for its nostalgic appeal and match variety, tempered by reservations about precision and controls. No current price or discount is included here because those can change.
