The latest specifically documented Game Manager release located for this guide is version 4.0.0.14, released September 15, 2025. Big Fish said that users who do not install the required update may be unable to sign in, download games, or make purchases. That date and version should not be treated as proof that no later build exists.
Why Big Fish Games wants you to update Game Manager
A Game Manager update can be required before the client will authenticate your account or allow downloads and purchases. The September 2025 release also introduced or changed several parts of the client, including:
#1 Best Overall
- TRIFORCE TITANIUM 50 MM DRIVERS — Our cutting-edge proprietary design divides the driver into 3 parts for the individual tuning of highs, mids, and lows—producing brighter, clearer audio with richer highs and more powerful lows
- HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID MIC — An improved pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise as it tapers off towards the mic’s back and sides, with the sweet spot easily placed at the mouth because of the mic’s bendable design
- ADVANCED PASSIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Sturdy closed earcups fully cover the ears to prevent noise from leaking into the headset, with its cushions providing a closer seal for more sound isolation
- LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN WITH MEMORY FOAM EAR CUSHIONS — At just 240 g, the headset features thicker headband padding and memory foam ear cushions with leatherette to keep gaming in peak form during grueling tournaments and training sessions
- WORKS WITH WINDOWS SONIC — Make the most of the headset’s powerful drivers by pairing it with lifelike surround sound that places audio with pinpoint accuracy, heightening in-game awareness and immersion
- A more secure login system
- A redesigned games page and bestsellers page
- Updated presentation of featured PC and Mac games
- Revised search, including prices in search results
- Sales-price and Big Fish Points information for recently played games
- A Game Manager version indicator in the client footer
- Navigation and interface changes, including removal of some older navigation items
If the app opens but refuses to sign in, download a title, or complete a purchase, updating the client should be your first step.
Update Big Fish Games Game Manager on Windows
- Open the Big Fish Games app/Game Manager.
- Select Options.
- Open the About tab.
- Choose Check for Updates.
- Allow the update to download and install, then restart the Game Manager if prompted.
The client displays its version in the Game Manager interface. After updating, try signing in again before troubleshooting an individual game.
If Check for Updates does not work
If the client cannot update itself, install a game from the Big Fish Games website. Big Fish has used game installation as the delivery method for Game Manager updates, including the earlier 4.0.0.0 release. The later 4.0.0.14 notice is the more recent documented instruction, so use the current installer or a game download offered by Big Fish rather than relying on an old standalone installer.
If a website installation does not recognize your purchase, open the Game Manager and use Purchase History instead:
- Open the Big Fish Games app.
- Check the account email shown in the upper-right corner.
- Sign out and back in if the wrong account is displayed.
- Select Purchase History.
- Click Download next to the affected game.
Update or reinstall Game Manager on Mac
Big Fish’s Mac update route differs from Windows. The documented method is to remove the existing Game Manager and install the current client by downloading a game trial.
- Move the existing Game Manager from Applications to the Trash.
- Empty the Trash.
- Download any Big Fish game trial from the Big Fish Games website.
- Open the downloaded folder or disk image. If the download is zipped, unzip it first.
- Move the Game Manager app into the /Applications folder.
- Open the app and sign in with the account that owns the game.
The Game Manager must be installed in /Applications to function correctly. If macOS reports that you do not have permission to install it, confirm that you are signed in to an administrator account.
Mac installation-permission problems
For a persistent permission error, Big Fish recommends deleting the existing app, running First Aid in macOS Disk Utility, restarting the Mac, and trying the installation again. Do not assume that moving the app to another folder will fix the problem; the required installation location is /Applications.
Update an individual Big Fish game
Updating the Game Manager does not automatically mean that every installed game has been updated. To check individual PC or Mac games:

Big Fish says game updates can correct bugs and improve performance. If no number appears beside Updates, the client has not identified an available update for the games it manages.
Fix Big Fish Games download and installation failures
Work through these steps in order. Start with the least disruptive option and reinstall only if the client or game remains unusable.
1. Confirm the account
Open the Game Manager and verify the email address in the upper-right corner. A game may appear to be missing when you are signed in to a different Big Fish account. Sign out, sign back in with the purchasing account, and check Purchase History.

2. Try both Game Manager network methods
Big Fish provides two download methods because the better option can depend on your network:
- Open Options.
- Select Advanced.
- Confirm that Default (recommended) is selected.
- Try the download again.
- If it fails, return to the same setting and choose Alternate Method.
- Retry the download.
Switching methods is particularly useful when the default connection is interrupted by a router, proxy, security product, or network configuration.
3. Close programs that can interrupt an installer
Temporarily close other running programs and retry the installation. Big Fish specifically identifies live security scanners, torrent applications, download managers, and similar software as possible causes of interrupted or corrupted installer files. This is especially relevant to NSIS and LP5 errors.
4. Check firewall and security-software permissions
A firewall or security program may block the Game Manager from downloading, installing, or activating a game. Big Fish identifies these Windows files for allow-list configuration:

bfgclient.exebfgprocess.exebfggameservices.exe
They are normally in the bfgclient folder under Program Files (x86), or under Program Files if the former folder is not present.

Use your security software’s documented allow-list or exception procedure. If you temporarily disable protection as a diagnostic test, turn it back on immediately afterward. Do not leave antivirus or firewall protection disabled as a permanent workaround.
5. Sign out and back in for errors 1400, 1401, and 1402
For Big Fish errors 1400, 1401, or 1402:
- Sign out of the Game Manager.
- Close and reopen it if necessary.
- Sign in with the correct account email and password.
- Try installing the game again.
If the error continues, install the title from Purchase History inside the app or reinstall the game.
6. Clear browser and temporary data for NSIS or LP5 errors
For NSIS and LP5 errors, Big Fish recommends closing interfering applications, clearing browser history, temporary files, cookies, and cache, then trying another supported browser. After that, retry the game installation. These errors can occur when an installer download is incomplete or altered before it runs.

Important macOS Catalina compatibility warning
macOS Catalina 10.15 and later do not run 32-bit applications. Big Fish’s compatibility guidance states that its newer Game Manager supports 64-bit games on Catalina and later, but 32-bit games and old Game Manager versions will not run on those macOS releases.
Before buying or reinstalling an older Mac title, check that game’s system requirements. When a free trial is available, test it on the Mac you intend to use before purchasing.
Optional Windows diagnostic software for broader PC problems
Not required for updating Big Fish Games: if the official steps above solve the problem, you do not need another utility. However, if Big Fish is one of several applications crashing—or the PC also has disk-space problems, stuck updates, or wider game failures—an optional PC troubleshooting software tool such as Outbyte PC Repair may help diagnose those broader Windows 10 or Windows 11 categories. It is not a Big Fish product, is not presented as a Game Manager update, and is not a guaranteed fix. Try Big Fish’s own troubleshooting steps first.
Run Dr. Felix before contacting support
Big Fish’s Dr. Felix diagnostic tool is intended for problems including crashes, freezes, games that will not open, display issues, download or installation failures, activation problems, in-game errors, and Game Manager error codes.
The tool can collect routine diagnostic information such as:

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the latest Big Fish Games Game Manager version?

Big Fish’s release notice said the update was required for sign-in, downloads, and purchases. How do I update Big Fish Games on Windows or Mac?
On Windows, open the Game Manager and select Options, About, then Check for Updates. If that fails, installing a Big Fish game or trial from the website can provide the updated client. On Mac, uninstall the existing Game Manager and download a game trial to install the updated app in /Applications.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDoes updating Game Manager update my individual games?
No. Updating Game Manager updates the client used for sign-in, purchases, downloads, and your library. To update an individual game, open the Game Manager, select Updates under Download Games, and choose Install Updates.
Why will an older Big Fish game not run on my Mac?
macOS Catalina 10.15 and later do not support 32-bit applications. The newer Game Manager supports 64-bit games, but 32-bit games and old Game Manager versions cannot run on those macOS versions. Check the game’s requirements and try a free trial when available.
