Big Time Studios announced a $150 million fund in December 2024 to support studios building games on or launching through its Open Loot platform. The figure was the fund’s announced size—not a record of money already invested. In a December 17, 2024 report, GamesBeat said founder Ari Meilich told it the fund had deployed no capital at that point.

What is the Open Loot Fund?

It is a Big Time Studios funding and support initiative for game studios building on or launching through Open Loot, the company’s Web3 game distribution and marketplace platform. GamesBeat reported on December 17, 2024 that the offering was intended to combine financial backing with development, marketing and strategic advice. Those were announced aims; the report did not identify a recipient of the $150 million fund.

According to GamesBeat, the proposed support included advice on in-game economy design, sales strategy, marketplace optimization, marketing and community building. The announcement did not specify check sizes, whether funding would be equity, debt or another instrument, ownership terms, exclusivity requirements, or a selection rate.

How much money had the fund deployed?

As of the December 17, 2024 GamesBeat report, Meilich said the $150 million fund had not deployed capital. He separately described $10 million invested collectively in games on Open Loot before the fund announcement, and explicitly said that amount was not part of the $150 million fund: “We did invest previously in all Open Loot games you see on Open Loot: A total of $10 million collectively but that is not part of the $150 million fund.” GamesBeat’s report was updated June 18, 2025, but the cited deployment statement is time-bound to the 2024 report; it does not establish how much, if anything, was deployed later.

Who can apply, and what does the application ask?

Open Loot’s funding page displays three requirements: the studio should have a fun, exciting game; be three to six months from launch; and be ready to integrate the Open Loot marketplace. The page has no visible publication or revision date, so these should be treated as requirements shown on the page rather than confirmed current policy. Its live status and terms need verification with Open Loot.

The application asks about the game and its type, funding status and fundraising plans, launch timing, community beta, current NFT sales or management tools, agreements with other chains or marketplaces, burn rate, runway and token status. The form’s questions indicate the information Open Loot requests; they do not establish the fund’s financial terms or guarantee an application will be accepted. See the Open Loot funding application.

Is the $150 million fund still accepting applications?

That is not established by the available public information. Open Loot’s funding page still displays the fund and an application, but it is undated. The company’s news listing also includes 2025 coverage of a strategic shift toward in-house development and select partnerships, as well as a separate report of a $2.9 million credit program. The listing does not say whether the $150 million fund remains open, how much it has deployed since December 2024, or whether the later strategy changed its eligibility or terms. A visible application alone is not confirmation that capital remains available.

How the fund differs from Open Loot’s earlier program

The $150 million announcement was not the first Big Time Studios initiative to use “fund” language. On July 27, 2022, the studio announced the Open Loot platform and an “OPEN LOOT Ecosystem Fund” for developers launching Web3 games. That announcement discussed marketplace and Vault technology but did not state a $150 million amount. The 2022 announcement is a separate, earlier initiative, not evidence of deployment from the 2024 fund.

Open Loot’s platform context

GamesBeat described Open Loot as a distribution platform with an SDK for minting and distributing crypto assets, alongside a marketplace for digital and traditional items. Its report cited company/platform figures for 2024 of $443.3 million in marketplace volume, 1.4 million unique platform users and 1.98 million digital collectibles sold. These are figures reported by GamesBeat, not independently audited measures. The report also cited 1.5 million registered players; registered players should not be confused with active users.

Big Time Studios’ $BIGTIME white paper describes Big Time as a multiplayer action RPG that integrates blockchain assets. It characterizes $BIGTIME as a utility token used for functions such as crafting, upgrading, accelerating timers and accessing Prestige Portals. The paper says the token confers no ownership, governance or dividend rights. That token description is background on the game ecosystem, not a claim that token holders have rights in the fund or that the fund has produced investment returns.
