Before PlayStation’s February 12, 2025 State of Play, the strongest predictions centered on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Ghost of Yōtei, Bloodborne, Marvel’s Wolverine, and Fairgame$. None of those games appeared. Instead, the 40-plus-minute presentation focused on third-party release dates, remasters, expansions, and new reveals including Saros and Tides of Annihilation.
What PlayStation confirmed before the show
PlayStation announced that the State of Play would take place on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 2 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. ET. The presentation was available on YouTube and Twitch and would run for more than 40 minutes—not 60 minutes, as some previews and social posts incorrectly claimed. Sony described it only as a show about “news and updates” for PS5 games from studios around the world. It did not promise first-party announcements or name any specific games. PlayStation’s official announcement therefore provided little firm evidence for the more ambitious predictions.
The biggest pre-show predictions
1. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
This was the most evidence-based prediction. Hideo Kojima had been teasing another trailer, and Death Stranding 2 was one of Sony’s major planned 2025 releases. GameSpot cited those trailer teases when identifying it as a likely State of Play candidate. The prediction was reasonable, but the game did not appear.
The release date arrived later at Kojima Productions’ SXSW 2025 panel: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach launched on PS5 on June 26, 2025. Its absence was a useful reminder that credible evidence for a future trailer is not the same as confirmation that a game is scheduled for a particular showcase.

2. Ghost of Yōtei
Ghost of Yōtei was another logical first-party possibility. Sony had already announced it for 2025, so additional gameplay, a release date, or a new trailer would have fit the event. However, the game was not included in the February presentation’s official recap.
Sony announced the release date later: Ghost of Yōtei was set to launch on PS5 on October 2, 2025, with the date revealed on April 23. It was a plausible prediction, but not one supported by a confirmed State of Play appearance.
3. Bloodborne remaster, remake, or sequel
Bloodborne was the loudest fan-driven prediction, largely because its 10th anniversary was approaching in March 2025. That anniversary generated considerable speculation, but it was not evidence that Sony or FromSoftware had scheduled an announcement.
The State of Play included no Bloodborne remaster, remake, sequel, PS5 patch, or PC version. The official recap contains no such announcement. The anniversary was a talking point—not a leak, confirmation, or reliable indicator of the show’s contents.

4. Marvel’s Wolverine
Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine was another popular wish. The game was known to be in development, but Sony had not announced a release date or said that it would appear at this State of Play.
It did not appear in the presentation. There was no trailer, gameplay segment, release window, or new announcement for Wolverine. This made it a fan-favorite expectation rather than a substantiated prediction.
5. Fairgame$
Sony’s live-service heist game Fairgame$ had been quiet for an extended period, making a progress update conceivable. It was mentioned as a possible candidate in pre-show coverage, but there was no confirmation that Sony planned to show it.
Fairgame$ was absent from the February recap, joining the other major first-party predictions that did not materialize.

The prediction that came true: Metal Gear Solid Delta
One of the most important accurate predictions was that Konami would use the show to provide a release-date update for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The game was confirmed for PS5 on August 28, 2025.
The trailer also confirmed the return of the Snake vs. Monkey minigame. This was a stronger prediction than anniversary-based rumors because it concerned a major, already-public game with a release window that needed a firm date.
The actual headline announcements
Saros from Housemarque
Housemarque, the studio behind Returnal, revealed Saros, a new PS5 action game scheduled for 2026. The State of Play showed its first reveal trailer, while PlayStation said that an extended gameplay presentation would follow later in 2025.
Saros became the show’s most significant first-party-style reveal, even though the presentation was not structured as a major Sony first-party showcase.

Days Gone Remastered
Sony and Bend Studio announced Days Gone Remastered for PS5 on April 25, 2025. The remaster added graphical improvements, Tempest 3D Audio, DualSense support, Horde Assault, Permadeath, and additional content.
Owners of the PS4 or PC version were offered a $10 USD upgrade. The announcement was one of the event’s clearest examples of Sony emphasizing remasters and enhanced editions rather than unveiling its most heavily rumored new projects.
Tides of Annihilation and other new projects
The presentation also included new or previously unannounced games such as Tides of Annihilation. Alongside Saros, its reveal helped give the show fresh announcements despite the absence of the major first-party titles most fans expected.

Ranking the pre-show predictions after the event
- Death Stranding 2 update: the strongest evidence-based prediction, but absent.
- Ghost of Yōtei update: plausible because of its 2025 release window, but absent.
- Metal Gear Solid Delta release date: an accurate prediction and one of the show’s biggest announcements.
- Bloodborne remake or remaster: widely discussed, but based on anniversary speculation rather than evidence.
- Marvel’s Wolverine: a credible fan expectation, not a confirmed segment.
- Fairgame$: a reasonable long-shot possibility that did not appear.
What the February 2025 State of Play was really about
The event was not the major first-party showcase many fans hoped for. Its practical focus was release-date confirmation and updates across a broad range of PS5 games. The most notable announcements were Saros, Days Gone Remastered, and the release date for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
The rest of the show demonstrated why predictions based only on popularity or fan demand are risky. Bloodborne had an approaching anniversary, Wolverine was highly anticipated, and Death Stranding 2 had strong trailer-related evidence—but none appeared. PlayStation’s deliberately broad event description was more accurate than the speculation: the presentation delivered news and updates for PS5 games from studios worldwide, with an emphasis on third-party projects and already-announced releases.
