In an April 2026 exchange, executive producer Mike Gamble offered no new details. The game’s official title and release date remain unannounced in the cited updates.
Is the next Mass Effect game still in development?
Yes. On November 7, 2025, executive producer Mike Gamble wrote that “the next Mass Effect game is in development” and that “EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe.” He added that the team was “heads-down and focused exclusively on Mass Effect.” BioWare’s N7 Day 2025 post is the clearest direct studio status statement among the cited updates.

Gamble also said the team had “a lot of universe to cover, lots of features to build, and lots of romances to figure out.” That is broad development context, not confirmation of specific gameplay features, characters, or plot points.
What did BioWare say about the team?
In a January 29, 2025 studio update, general manager Gary McKay said a core team was developing the game under veterans of the original trilogy, including Mike Gamble, Preston Watamaniuk, Derek Watts, and Parrish Ley. McKay also described BioWare matching many colleagues to open roles on other EA teams as part of the studio’s staffing changes. The update gives organizational context, but does not say that the game was canceled or that its status had changed. Read BioWare’s studio update.

- Includes single-player base content and over 40 DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, including promo weapons, armors, and packs - remastered and optimized for 4k Ultra HD.
Did BioWare provide a newer update?
On April 23, 2026, GameSpot reported that Gamble responded to a request for news by saying the team was “just busy workin’” and had “Not a lot of time for tease.” The comment indicates there was no substantive reveal in that exchange; it did not announce a milestone, release window, or new game details. GameSpot’s report is the later comment, while BioWare’s November 2025 post remains the clearest direct statement of development status.
Is it officially called Mass Effect 4?
Not in the cited official statements. BioWare refers to it as the “next Mass Effect game,” and has not confirmed “Mass Effect 4” as its title. FRVR’s September 2026 article uses that name as a presumed label, not an official announcement. Until BioWare names the game, “next Mass Effect game” is the more accurate description. FRVR’s article.

What has not been announced?

BioWare has offered qualitative status language, not a completion percentage, budget, or other numeric progress estimate. Treat claims about those specifics as unconfirmed unless BioWare announces them.

No. In its N7 Day 2025 post, BioWare separately discussed a television series being made in partnership with Amazon. Gamble said the writers’ room was working on the show’s place in the franchise’s canon and its relationship to the new game. BioWare described the series as a new story set after the original trilogy, not a retelling of Commander Shepard’s story. Those comments concern the TV series and do not provide a game release update. BioWare’s post.
