For a first playthrough, Jingubang is the strongest general-purpose late-game pick in the cited weapon lists. It offers 135 damage, +6% critical-hit chance, and prevents the fourth focus-point gauge from draining over time—but you cannot obtain it until Chapter 6. Before then, Golden Loong Staff is the standout choice for Pillar Stance, while Bishui Beast Staff is a Chapter 5 option. In New Game Plus, Stormflash Loong Staff has the highest listed damage among these picks, but it is not a first-run alternative.
Best staffs at a glance
| Rank and staff | Best fit | Source-listed stats and effect | Availability and main cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Jingubang | Late-game general use | 135 damage; +6% critical-hit chance; the fourth focus-point gauge does not deplete over time. | Chapter 6, after required armor and regional progression. Not an early- or midgame option. |
| 2. Golden Loong Staff | Pillar Stance | 108 damage; boosts Pillar Stance moves and can summon a loong after qualifying heavy attacks costing three or four focus points. | Requires the Loongwreathe Staff upgrade path, materials associated with Cyan Loong and Yellow Loong, and Kun Steel. |
| 3. Bishui Beast Staff | Chapter 5 progression | 105 damage; the source lists no critical-hit figure for this comparison. | Craftable after defeating the optional Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast in the secret Bishui Cave area. |
| NG+ pick: Stormflash Loong Staff | New Game Plus damage and shock-related effects | 140 damage; +9% critical-hit chance; its effect is tied to charging and being shocked. | New Game Plus only; requires Kang-Jin Staff and Loong Pearls. |
These figures and unlock details are reported by PCGamesN’s weapon guide (updated August 28, 2024) and BlackMythWukongTalk’s staff guide (published April 3, 2026). They are not independently verified against a current game build. Treat the ranking as a progression- and build-based recommendation, not a patch-verified damage test or a universal optimum.
1. Jingubang: best late-game all-rounder
Jingubang is the clearest first-playthrough recommendation if you have reached Chapter 6 and want a strong general-purpose staff rather than one tied to a particular stance. Its listed combination of 135 damage and +6% critical-hit chance is supported by an effect that preserves the fourth focus-point gauge instead of letting it drain over time. That makes the weapon especially appealing to players who want more flexibility around holding focus for a later heavy attack.
The trade-off is timing: this is an endgame reward, not an answer for most of the journey. If you are earlier in the campaign, choose from what your current weapon tree and materials allow rather than planning around a staff you cannot yet acquire.

2. Golden Loong Staff: best for Pillar Stance
Golden Loong Staff is the more targeted choice for players who build around Pillar Stance. Its listed effect enhances Pillar Stance moves and can call a loong after a heavy attack that spends three or four focus points. Its 108 listed damage is lower than Jingubang’s, but the stance synergy is the reason to pursue it—not a claim that it outperforms Jingubang in every situation.
It takes a deliberate crafting route. The listed path runs through Loongwreathe Staff and calls for materials associated with Cyan Loong and Yellow Loong, as well as Kun Steel. Consider whether you want to invest in Pillar Stance before spending those materials; players who regularly change stance or prefer another combat pattern may get less value from its defining bonus.
3. Bishui Beast Staff: a Chapter 5 option worth the detour
Bishui Beast Staff gives players a source-listed 105 damage option in Chapter 5. Its unlock is tied to an optional secret encounter: defeating Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast in the Bishui Cave area makes the staff craftable. That makes it a progression candidate for players willing to pursue the secret route, rather than a guaranteed upgrade every player will naturally collect.
Rank #2
The available comparison does not establish a critical-hit figure or a detailed stance specialization for this staff. Its case here is its chapter timing and the opportunity to craft it after the secret boss, not an unsupported claim that its damage or effect is best-in-class.

Stormflash Loong Staff should be considered only after starting New Game Plus. The cited weapon list gives it 140 damage and +9% critical-hit chance, the highest damage figure among the four ranked choices here. Its shock-related effect is conditional, tied to charging and being shocked, so the raw numbers alone do not establish how well it fits every build.
Its listed crafting requirements are Kang-Jin Staff and Loong Pearls. Because it is NG+ only, it cannot solve a first-playthrough weapon choice; compare it with other NG+ options using your build and progression rather than treating it as the definitive best staff for every run.
Rank #3
Which staff should you use before Jingubang?
Pick according to the chapter you are in and the way you fight. Golden Loong Staff is the most clearly supported specialized alternative if you use Pillar Stance and are willing to complete its upgrade and material route. Bishui Beast Staff is a Chapter 5 candidate if you defeat its optional secret boss. For earlier chapters, use an available weapon-tree upgrade that fits your current needs; do not delay progression on the assumption that one eventual endgame weapon makes every interim staff irrelevant.
The weapon list describes a progression system in which staff upgrades lead toward higher-rarity counterparts, with some materials tied to secret bosses. Early options it names include Twin Serpents Staff after Whiteclad Noble and Wind Bear Staff after Black Bear Guai. These are route-planning signposts, not evidence that one is the best early staff for every build.
Other staff routes and build considerations
Poison, healing, and Chitin Staff upgrades
The PCGamesN list identifies Spider Celestial Staff and Visionary Centipede Staff as upgrades on the Chitin Staff path, with differing critical-hit, healing, and poison-related effects. Those effects may make them relevant to players prioritizing those mechanics, but the cited comparison does not provide enough common, current-build testing to rank them above the four choices above.

Chapter 5 alternatives
Staff of Blazing Karma is linked to optional Chapter 5 bosses and a charged-heavy attack with a lava effect. Bishui Beast Staff is a separate secret-boss craft in the same chapter. These are distinct routes, so check the relevant unlock and material requirements before committing to one.
Other New Game Plus options
The weapon list also names Dark Iron Staff as a mythical NG+ option. Its attack scales with defense, and its listed requirement includes Bull King’s Iron Horns. That makes it a different build consideration from Stormflash Loong Staff’s shock-related effect; the source does not establish a universal winner between them.
Quick Recap
How to choose without overvaluing the damage number
- Check availability first: a strong staff is useful only once its chapter, boss, and crafting requirements are met.
- Match the effect to your combat plan: Pillar Stance players have a clear reason to consider Golden Loong Staff; players focused on another stance should not assume that bonus applies to them.
- Consider the trigger: an effect requiring a particular focus cost, charge, or status condition is not equivalent to a constant bonus.
- Separate first-run and NG+ rankings: Stormflash Loong Staff and Dark Iron Staff are NG+ choices, not alternatives available in the initial campaign.
- Keep version in mind: the cited numeric values come from guides dated 2024 and 2026, and no official version-specific balance source establishes that they match every current patch.
