Black Myth: Wukong did arrive on Xbox Series X|S: the Xbox Store lists its release date as August 20, 2025, a year after the game launched on PC and PS5. In June 2024, developer Game Science said it needed more time to optimize the Xbox version. Microsoft said it was working with the studio, but the exact cause of the delay was never publicly established in the cited statements.
Did Black Myth: Wukong come to Xbox?
Yes. The official Xbox Store listing supports Xbox Series X|S and gives August 20, 2025 as the release date. The game launched on PC and PS5 on August 20, 2024, according to Windows Central.
The Xbox Store describes Black Myth: Wukong as a single-player action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology and based on Journey to the West. It lists Game Science as both developer and publisher.
Why was the Xbox version delayed?
Game Science’s stated reason: optimization
In June 2024, Game Science said it was optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet its quality standards, so it would not release alongside the other platforms. The studio apologized and said it would announce a date once the version met those standards, as reported by Windows Central.

That statement gives the developer’s public explanation, not a technical postmortem. The cited sources do not identify the specific obstacle or establish that Xbox Series S hardware caused the delay.
What Microsoft said—and what it did not
On June 21, 2024, a Microsoft spokesperson said the company was excited for the Xbox launch and was working with Game Science to bring the game to Xbox. The spokesperson also said Microsoft could not comment on deals its partners made with other platform holders. The statement was reproduced by Windows Central and Pure Xbox.
