Black Widow is a Duelist built to threaten enemies at range and punish openings up close. Use the Red Room Rifle and its sniper mode to pressure targets, then choose her slow, launch, melee strike, or area slam according to the engagement. Her kit received major adjustments in Season 9, so treat exact damage values as patch-sensitive.
What Black Widow does
Marvel Rivals lists Black Widow as a Duelist. Her official kit combines two normal attacks—the Widow’s Bite Baton and Red Room Rifle—with four abilities: Assassin’s Focus, Electro-Plasma Blast, Edge Dancer, and Widow’s Bite Slam. Allied Agents is her listed team-up ability. The official Black Widow hero page describes what each attack does.
The practical choice is about distance and purpose: rifle pressure for ranged engagements, baton attacks when close, a slow to hinder an enemy, a launch with a follow-up, or a leap and slam for nearby targets. These are ways to read the published kit, not a tested rotation or an asserted optimal combo.
Choose an attack for the situation
At range: Red Room Rifle and Assassin’s Focus
The Red Room Rifle is a direct-hit attack. Assassin’s Focus switches it into sniper mode, where shots pierce targets and deal increased damage. Favor this pairing when you have a clear firing lane and want to pressure enemies from a distance; the piercing property may also matter when targets line up. Those are tactical implications of the listed mechanics, not a guarantee of a particular result.

To hinder a target: Electro-Plasma Blast
Electro-Plasma Blast fires a charged electro-plasma round. When it hits an enemy or the environment, it explodes and slows enemies. The slow gives the ability a control purpose as well as damage: consider it when slowing opponents would help disrupt their movement or create an opening for follow-up pressure.
At close range: Widow’s Bite Baton
The Widow’s Bite Baton is an enhanced electric-baton melee strike. It is the direct close-range option in her normal attacks; use it when fighting at melee distance rather than treating it as a substitute for rifle pressure at range.

To launch and follow: Edge Dancer
Edge Dancer is a spinning kick that launches enemies. If the kick lands, Black Widow can zip to the target for a second kick. The ability therefore combines displacement with a conditional follow-up and movement toward the target. Since that follow-up depends on landing the first kick, it is not a guaranteed sequence.
To hit an area: Widow’s Bite Slam
Widow’s Bite Slam sends Black Widow leaping to a target area before she slams the ground, damaging nearby enemies. Its listed effect is area damage around the landing point, making it distinct from the rifle’s direct-hit pressure and her single-target melee options.

What changed in the 2026 balance updates
Black Widow’s kit changed substantially in Season 9, then received further tuning. The dated official posts establish this timeline:

How to read current damage values
Do not rely on a single static damage number without checking its patch context. The official hero page lists Red Room Rifle damage as 40 per round, while the July 11 balance post says damage per hit increased from 40 to 45. Because those official sources conflict, the current base damage is not established by them together. Check the in-game ability description and any official balance notes newer than September 11, 2026 before relying on an exact live value.

For the same reason, preserve the balance post’s wording for the rifle’s 40 m “maximum damage falloff” figures. Do not reinterpret them as percentages of damage retained: the available official wording does not establish that conversion. The July post’s Electro-Plasma Blast range is a dated adjustment, not a promise that the same values remain live in a later build.

The official materials describe her attacks and document tuning changes, but they do not establish a named, dated win-rate number, a comparative hero ranking, or whether Black Widow is currently strong, weak, easy, or meta-defining. The July balance post’s qualitative comment about a rising win rate is not enough to infer any of those conclusions.
