To reach Iceborne, Capcom says to finish the base game campaign, reach Hunter Rank 16, then speak with Feisty Fiver in Astera. Its Master Rank hunts can reward materials for the Fellshroud armor set.
What makes Blackveil Vaal Hazak different?
Kiranico describes Blackveil as “A Vaal Hazak variant encrusted with spores that spew a toxic effluvium at any who draw close.” That is the central distinction established by the available monster data: the variant’s spore-covered appearance and effluvium. Kiranico lists its Master Rank entry and expeditions in the Ancient Forest and Rotten Vale. Kiranico’s Blackveil Vaal Hazak database entry
How to unlock Iceborne and reach the hunt
Capcom Support’s access guidance, updated July 16, 2026, says to complete the Monster Hunter: World campaign, reach HR 16, and speak with Feisty Fiver in Astera to begin the Iceborne campaign. Capcom Support: How do I access the Iceborne Campaign?
Blackveil is an Iceborne Master Rank monster. Kiranico records expeditions in the Ancient Forest and Rotten Vale, but that does not mean every quest or event featuring it is currently available. Check the in-game quest list for the hunt you have unlocked.

Regular hunt or Resident Evil event quest?
Keep the standard monster encounter separate from the historical Resident Evil collaboration. Capcom’s November 7, 2019 announcement described the special event quest “RE: Return of the Bioweapon,” which ran November 7 through December 5, 2019. In that event adaptation, Blackveil’s spores had unusual effects, and Capcom advised using Green Herbs, with Red Herbs for a stronger combo. Those instructions concern the collaboration quest; they should not be treated as a general countermeasure guide for every Blackveil hunt. Capcom News: Title Update 11.50 and Raccoon City collaboration
The event also offered Leon and Claire armor materials and Raccoon City-themed pendants. These are historical event rewards, not evidence that the quest is available now. Capcom’s Master Rank Event Quests page has listed Blackveil quests such as “RE: Return of the Bioweapon” (MR 20+) and “Tears from Nirvana” (MR 100+), but the schedule information available here is stale and cannot establish current availability.

Which materials does Blackveil drop?
Kiranico lists these Master Rank materials among Blackveil’s outcomes. The chance depends on the reward method, so use the method-specific figures rather than treating a percentage as a universal drop rate.
| Material | Example listed source | Database-listed chance |
|---|---|---|
| Vaal Hazak Flail | Tail carve | 75% |
| Deceased Shard | Body carve | 30% |
| Vaal Hazak Cortex | Body carve | 22% |
| Vaal Hazak Hardclaw | Body carve | 18% |
| Vaal Hazak Shadowpierce Fang | Body carve | 14%; head-break rewards are listed at 66% |
| Vaal Hazak Fellwing | Body carve | 9% |
| Vaal Hazak Gem | Body carve | 5% |
| Large Elder Dragon Gem | Body carve | 2% |
These are gameplay chances listed by Kiranico, not guarantees or real-world statistics; other carve, break, hunt, and investigation reward tables may differ. Consult the relevant method in the full reward tables when farming a particular part.
What armor can you make?
Kiranico lists Fellshroud α+ and Fellshroud β+ armor pieces for Blackveil’s Master Rank materials. Check the in-game Smithy’s armor list for the piece-specific material requirements and skills, since those details determine whether a set or individual piece suits your build.

The sources available here do not verify an elemental weakness ranking or a complete set of general-hunt countermeasures. Capcom’s herb advice applies to its 2019 Resident Evil event quest, while a search result for a Game8 guide is not enough to substantiate exact weakness charts or tactical prescriptions. Avoid relying on those event-specific instructions as a universal build recommendation; check a current, reliable guide or the game itself before committing to a counter-build.
