The launch announcement also calls the game’s story original, while the European product page describes Story Mode as a retelling of the main BLEACH story. The available official descriptions do not clarify how original connective material fits into that retelling, so the two claims should not be treated as a precise account of what is new.
How far does the story go?
The stated main-story span runs from Ichigo Kurosaki’s rise as a Soul Reaper in the Substitute Soul Reaper Arc through the conflict with Sosuke Aizen in the Arrancar Arc. It does not establish that the main campaign adapts the Thousand-Year Blood War. Bandai Namco identifies Thousand-Year Blood War-era content separately through costumes and a DLC fighter.

Secret Story is a separate mode that the publisher says reveals moments that shaped characters’ personalities. The official descriptions do not provide enough detail to map its episodes or explain how much new story material it contains.
How does combat work?
Bandai Namco describes the game as a 1-v-1 fighter with more than 30 playable characters at launch. Its advertised combat loop has characters build spiritual power, enter an Awakened state and use signature moves, including abilities such as Bankai. The Reverse Gauge supports offensive and defensive actions; a January 2025 system overview also names Chain Reverse and Burst Reverse.

The publisher says characters have distinctive playstyles, but its feature descriptions do not establish balance, input responsiveness, depth, accessibility or how easy the systems are to learn. Those require direct play or independent testing.

Is there a physical PS5 copy?
Yes. Bandai Namco lists a physical PS5 Standard Edition as well as a digital version. Its official store has also listed PS5 and Xbox Series X Standard Editions. That establishes an official physical PS5 product, but not current Amazon stock or the availability of a particular regional edition.
