As of Patch 8, the BG3 Wiki classifies it as unobtainable in normal gameplay; third-party tools can access it, but no regular campaign location is documented. Its special effects are conditional, too: they work only when an Eldritch Knight binds it or a Warlock uses it as a Pact Weapon.
Can you get the Blood-Bound Blade in a normal playthrough?
No confirmed ordinary-playthrough location is documented. The BG3 Wiki’s Blood-Bound Blade page, last edited September 12, 2026, categorizes the weapon as unobtainable as of Patch 8. It notes that the blade can be accessed with third-party tools, which is different from finding it through normal exploration or quest rewards. Because a later game patch could change availability, this status is specific to the version documented by the wiki.
A Reddit post titled “How to get the Blood-Bound Blade,” dated August 24, 2023, reflects the kind of acquisition question players ask, but it does not establish a location or a normal method of obtaining the weapon: the discussion.
What does the Blood-Bound Blade do?
It is a rare, +1 versatile longsword. Its base damage is 1d8 + 1 slashing when wielded one-handed or 1d10 + 1 slashing when wielded two-handed; the wielder’s Strength modifier is added. The listed passives also grant +1 to damage and attack rolls, plus additional damage equal to the wielder’s proficiency bonus.

Those magical powers are conditional: they function only when an Eldritch Knight has bound the sword or when a Warlock uses it as a Pact Weapon. The weapon’s stats therefore do not make its special effects universally active for anyone who equips it.
Which builds can use its special effects?
Eldritch Knight
An Eldritch Knight can bind the blade as a bound weapon. This is one of the two conditions under which the wiki says its magical powers function.

Warlock with Pact of the Blade
A Warlock can use the sword as a Pact Weapon. Without that pact-weapon condition, the listed special powers are not described as active.
The wiki documents a bug in which Favoured Weapon and Synchronicity effects may remain after an Eldritch Knight or Pact of the Blade Warlock binds the blade. They can persist until the next long rest, including after the character binds a different weapon, and may also persist when another character uses the blade. This is documented bug behavior, not an intended build benefit.
