Blue Prince is a first-person puzzle adventure about drafting your way through a shifting estate, one door at a time. Its rumored Room 46 is the hook; the lasting appeal is how each run teaches you to notice patterns, test theories, and carry what you have learned into the next day. “Alter your brain” is a playful way to describe that lingering effect, not a literal promise—and the game’s resets and randomness will not suit everyone.
What is Blue Prince?
Released on April 10, 2025, Blue Prince is a first-person architectural puzzle adventure from Dogubomb, published by Raw Fury. You inherit Mount Holly, an estate described as having 45 rooms, and set out to find the rumored 46th. The premise is simple to state; working out what the house is asking of you is the game.

At each closed door, you choose from a selection of rooms to add to the floor plan. Your choices shape the route and what you can access during that day. At dawn, the layout resets. Tools, room choices, and the clues you have already noticed all influence what you can accomplish in a run. Official materials also describe permanent blueprint upgrades to the estate, which can persist beyond a reset; these are distinct from the knowledge you carry as a player.
The result combines strategy, mystery, environmental puzzles, and repeated exploration. Calling it only a roguelike or only a deckbuilder misses the mix: as Xbox Wire writer Steve Watts put it in an April 7, 2025 feature, “There’s nothing else quite like it.” That is an enthusiastic opinion, but it gets at the game’s unusual blend.

- DRAFTING YOUR JOURNEY - Upon reaching a closed door in Mt. Holly, you decide what room appears behind it and each decision shapes your path as you navigate through the manor. Every door can reveal new and exciting chambers that contain their own unique challenges and secrets. But be careful how you draft, for each day the manor’s floor plan resets and the rooms you saw today may not be the same rooms you see tomorrow.
- EVERY STEP COUNTS - Your progress each day is shaped by the rooms you select to draft and the tools you find within them. Items in the game can be used in a number of creative ways to fuel your exploration deeper into the house, allowing you to adopt unique strategies to combat the challenges that each day brings.
- A HISTORY IN THE MAKING - As the heir of Mt. Holly, you have been tasked to explore its shifting halls in search of Room 46. Yet as your journey takes you further into the mansion’s depths, you start to discover that there is more lurking under the surface than a missing room. Investigate a past woven with the threads of blackmail, political intrigue, and the mysterious disappearance of a local children’s book author.
- DAY ONE EDITION BONUSES - Pack-in bonuses include 18” x 12” fold-out poster of the magnificent Mt. Holly Manor and a download code for the official game soundtrack.
Why the mystery works
The central question—whether your unpredictable path will lead to Room 46—keeps each expedition pointed toward a goal. But progress is not limited to reaching a single endpoint. The publisher’s feature emphasizes discoveries and knowledge that matter beyond an individual run, while the puzzles invite you to connect clues at your own pace rather than simply follow a marked route.
That self-directed discovery is the game’s strongest quality. A room, an object, or a detail in the environment may seem incidental until another clue changes how you interpret it. You are often making your own links between observations, then deciding what to try on a later visit. PC Gamer’s Wes Fenlon called it “a brainworm, but also meditative, and the very, very rare game mystery that felt rewarding for me to solve through my own thinking and note-taking, rather than being guided to a solution.” That describes his experience, not a guaranteed reaction, but it captures the pleasure the game is built to offer.

How randomness helps—and hurts
Room selection and item placements vary, so no single floor plan is assured from one day to the next. That variability gives the drafting choices strategic weight: you work with the options in front of you and adapt your route. It also means you may lack a room or item needed for a puzzle you want to tackle. For some players, that is a reason to plan a better attempt; for others, it can make a promising run feel stalled by circumstances outside their control.
TechRadar’s review notes both randomized room and item pools and the frustration that can follow when a required room or item is unavailable. PC Gamer also describes the value of taking notes, while TechRadar’s Jason Rodriguez criticized the lack of an in-game journal and reported using screenshots. His roughly 70 hours were his own review playtime, not a typical time-to-finish estimate.

A notebook or screenshots can help you track patterns and questions, but the game does not make that external record a universal requirement. Balatro creator Localthunk’s Steam endorsement puts the note-taking appeal more emphatically: “Blue prince is already one of the best games I’ve ever played and i still feel like I’m scratching the surface. Get a journal, a pen, and buy the game already.” It is praise from a fan, not a neutral verdict.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Blue Prince for you if you like puzzles but dislike randomness?
Probably, if you are willing to treat a run as one attempt among many and enjoy finding another route when the rooms or items you want do not appear. Less so if you want deterministic progress, frequent hand-holding, or a built-in journal to organize every clue. The key question is whether uncertainty feels like a puzzle to solve or an obstacle that interrupts the puzzles you came for.

- Likely a good fit: You enjoy intricate puzzles, environmental details, repeated exploration, and forming your own theories.
- More of a gamble: You like puzzles but have little patience for randomized options or a run that cannot provide the room or tool you hoped to find.
- Likely a poor fit: You want a reliably guided route, a fixed sequence of challenges, or all clue tracking handled inside the game.
How it has been received
Recognition and store-page figures offer context, not a substitute for deciding whether the design suits you. GameSpot’s review by Steve Watts lists a score of 9. Steam displayed a Metacritic score of 92 and, on October 4, 2026, 14,733 English-language reviews with 85% positive. Those Steam figures are a snapshot that can change; none of these numbers predicts whether you will enjoy the resets or the note-taking.
Platforms and subscription access
Blue Prince is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC according to the cited platform and publisher materials. PlayStation’s US store page lists PS5 access and PlayStation Plus Extra. Xbox Wire announced Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC launch-day Game Pass access in 2025.
