Yes, the original Blue Protocol launched in Japan, but its planned Western release was cancelled before it arrived. Bandai Namco Online announced that the Japanese service would end on January 18, 2025, meaning many players outside Japan never got the chance to play that version officially.
Did Blue Protocol ever release in the West?
No. Bandai Namco Online cancelled the planned Western release, which it had been preparing with Amazon Games. The announcement did not give a new release date; it said the company had concluded it could not provide a service that would satisfy players. AUTOMATON WEST reproduced the announcement on August 28, 2024.
The cancellation is why the original game’s shutdown could happen before most players in the West had a chance to try it. It did not mean the game never launched: Bandai Namco Studios describes the original as a PC online action RPG developed by a joint team with Bandai Namco Online and lists its release year as 2023.
When did Blue Protocol shut down?
Bandai Namco Online announced on August 27, 2024 that the Japanese version would be discontinued on January 18, 2025. In the statement reproduced by AUTOMATON WEST, the company said: “We regret to inform you that the Japanese version of Blue Protocol will be discontinued on Saturday January 18, 2025.” It also said: “As a result, we have also canceled our plans to release a Western version of the game in collaboration with Amazon Games.”

Why was Blue Protocol cancelled?
The stated reason was that Bandai Namco Online concluded it could not provide a service that would satisfy players. The announcement does not establish a more specific cause, so claims about particular business, development, or player-count factors should not be treated as the publisher’s explanation.
Is Blue Protocol: Star Resonance the same game?

Its separate Steam listing identifies Shanghai Bokura Network Technology as developer, A Plus as publisher, and October 9, 2025 as its release date.
