Bluepoint Games reportedly pitched a Bloodborne remake in early 2025, and the proposal’s financial case made sense. But according to reporting based on people familiar with the process, FromSoftware did not want it to proceed—not Sony. The pitch was never announced as a game, and no remake has been confirmed.

What happened to Bluepoint’s Bloodborne remake pitch?

Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier reported that Bluepoint proposed remaking Bloodborne in early 2025. Gematsu and Game Informer relayed the report, attributing the account to people familiar with the process. Those sources said the financial numbers made sense, but FromSoftware opposed the proposal. Gematsu’s report and Game Informer’s coverage link to Schreier’s Bloomberg reporting.

That account supports the distinction in the headline: Sony was reportedly receptive to the business case, while FromSoftware did not want the project. It does not establish that Sony formally approved a completed game, or that FromSoftware has publicly explained its position. The reported “numbers made sense” is a qualitative description, not a published sales figure or financial estimate.

Why did FromSoftware reportedly oppose it?

No confirmed explanation from FromSoftware or Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki has been reported. Shuhei Yoshida, a former PlayStation executive, offered his own theory in a 2025 Kinda Funny interview: he thought Miyazaki might want to remake the game himself and would not want another studio to handle it.

  • If you have played the previous Souls games, then this one is a definite must buy

“But my theory is, because I remember Miyazaki-san really really loved Bloodborne, what he created—I think he’s interested [in remaking the game], but he’s so successful and so busy that he cannot do it himself. But he doesn’t want anyone else to touch it. So that’s my theory. And the PlayStation team would respect his wishes.”

Yoshida explicitly framed this as “my theory,” not inside knowledge or a confirmed account of the decision. Gematsu reproduced the interview remarks.

How the pitch fits the Bluepoint timeline

Bloodborne was released for PlayStation 4 in 2015. The reported remake pitch came in early 2025, around the time Bluepoint was looking for its next project after Sony cancelled the studio’s live-service God of War game in January 2025. Bloomberg’s reporting also describes later Bluepoint pitches, including an updated Shadow of the Colossus project and a Ghost of Tsushima spin-off.

Sony announced Bluepoint’s closure in February 2026. The reporting does not establish that the rejected Bloodborne proposal caused the closure, so the two events should not be treated as a direct cause-and-effect story.

Does this mean a PS5 or PC version is coming?

No. The pitch report does not say that the proposal became an announced game, and it provides no evidence of a current remake plan. In July 2026, Yoshida said the absence of a PS5 or PC version was “a complete mystery” to him and expressed hope that one might arrive in the future. His comment did not confirm a remake or explain the earlier pitch decision. Gematsu covered Yoshida’s July 2026 remarks.

For now, the only established game in this account is the original 2015 PS4 release—not a remake or a newly announced port.
