Boosted FPS Modpack: Complete Performance Server Setup Guide

Use the same Minecraft version, loader, and Boosted FPS release on the server and every client. Install the matching Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge server loader, upload the pack’s server files (including mods and config), start once to generate the world and configuration, complete the normal EULA and network setup, then restart after checking that every player has an identical installation. Boosted FPS improves client performance, but it does not remove the need for strict server–client version matching.

What Boosted FPS is—and what it changes on a server

Boosted FPS is a Minecraft Java modpack from GamerPotion built around performance mods and quality-of-life tweaks. Separate project branches exist for Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge, with additional links to Quilt and RPG variants. The branches are not interchangeable: a Fabric pack is not a substitute for a Forge or NeoForge pack, even when the Minecraft version number looks similar.

The project descriptions highlight performance components, Sodium support or ports, and an in-game Mods configuration menu. The pack documentation also gives low-render-distance examples (roughly 4–5 chunks) for users who want the highest frame rate, with instructions to increase the value when more view distance is preferable. VSync is suggested when frame rate exceeds the display’s refresh rate or when tearing is visible.

Most of those visual and frame-rate controls are client settings. They affect how a player renders the world and do not replace the server’s loader, pack, or configuration files. A multiplayer installation therefore has two jobs: build a valid modded server and make every connecting client use the exact same compatible combination.

Choose the Minecraft version and loader first

Decide the Minecraft version before downloading anything. Then select the Boosted FPS branch made for that version and install the corresponding loader. Do not begin by copying a random mods folder and trying to find a loader afterward; that is a common cause of startup crashes and “incompatible mod set” join errors.

Branch or release shown in the project listings Minecraft version noted in the listing What to verify before installation
Boosted FPS Fabric-1.7.5.zip Minecraft 26.3 The Fabric loader and the exact Fabric pack release must be used on the server and clients. The files page dates this release October 13, 2026, so recheck the listing if you install later.
Boosted FPS Forge-1.20.1-1.2.2.zip Minecraft 1.20.1 Use a Forge 1.20.1 server and the same Forge pack release on every client.
NeoForge branch Version depends on the selected file Read the NeoForge file’s Minecraft target and use that exact NeoForge loader. Never substitute Fabric or Forge because the pack name is the same.

The Fabric and Forge values above are time-sensitive project-listing values, not permanent requirements. Open the official Boosted FPS project page immediately before deployment and record the file name, Minecraft version, loader version, and release date in your server change log. If the listing has moved to a newer file, use the newer matched set instead of the examples in this table.

A practical selection checklist

  • Choose the Minecraft version your group intends to play.
  • Choose the Boosted FPS edition labeled Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge for that version.
  • Download the corresponding release from the official project page (and the listed Modrinth counterpart when using the Fabric branch).
  • Write down the complete file name and release number before uploading anything.
  • Give players that same record so they do not install a similarly named but different branch.

Files and prerequisites

Create a separate server directory for this installation. Keep it outside unrelated vanilla or modded servers so that old libraries, worlds, and configuration files cannot be mixed accidentally. Make a complete backup of the directory before the first change and another backup before every pack update.

You need the following items:

  • The Minecraft server version selected in the previous section.
  • The matching Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge server loader installer or server package.
  • The matching Boosted FPS server pack or the project’s published server files.
  • Access to the host’s file manager, SFTP account, or local filesystem.
  • A way to start and stop the selected loader on the host (a control-panel startup profile or your own launch script).
  • A backup location for the world, mods, config, loader files, and server properties.

The available project information does not establish a universal RAM minimum, CPU requirement, Java version, or player-capacity limit for Boosted FPS. Those values vary with the Minecraft release, loader, world size, simulation distance, concurrent players, and host environment. Use the Java version and memory guidance supplied by the selected loader and host rather than treating an unverified number as a pack requirement.

Manual server installation

The following workflow is deliberately loader-neutral. The exact installer name, Java executable, startup command, and memory flags differ between Minecraft versions and hosting panels, so use the selected loader’s instructions for those details.

  1. Create and back up the directory. Make a new, empty server folder. Preserve a copy of the empty state and keep an off-server backup location available before you install the loader.
  2. Install the matching server loader. Run or upload the Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge server package that targets the exact Minecraft version you selected. Do not install a loader merely because its major version is close; the Minecraft target and loader family must both match.
  3. Upload the official pack files. Transfer the Boosted FPS server pack supplied for that branch. Preserve the directory structure, especially mods, config, and any pack-specific directories. Do not flatten nested folders or rename jar files to make them appear compatible.
  4. Start the server once. Launch it with the host panel’s loader profile or the loader’s documented command. The first run normally creates configuration, libraries, logs, and world files. Watch the console for missing dependencies or a loader error instead of assuming a slow first start is a crash.
  5. Complete the normal EULA and network steps. Accept the Minecraft EULA through the generated file or host-panel control when required. Set the server port, online-mode choice, whitelist, operator permissions, and other network settings according to your normal server policy. The pack itself does not replace these Minecraft administration steps.
  6. Stop cleanly and inspect the result. Use the server’s stop command or panel control so the world and configuration are flushed to disk. Check the log for a successful loader initialization and note any warning that names a missing or duplicate mod.
  7. Test with one client first. Install the same Minecraft version, loader family, and Boosted FPS release on a test client. Join before inviting the full group; a single controlled test makes a mismatch easier to identify.
  8. Restart for normal play. Once the test succeeds, start the server again, keep the backup, and distribute the exact installation record to every player.

Preserving the important directories

mods contains the mod jars that the loader discovers. config stores settings that can change how the pack behaves. A server pack may also contain loader libraries, scripts, default configurations, or other named directories. Copy those directories as provided by the pack; selectively copying only a few jar files can omit a dependency or leave a client-only file in the wrong place.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not copy a client’s entire game directory over the server directory. Client resource packs, screenshots, shader files, keybindings, and graphics settings have no place in a dedicated server. Conversely, do not delete server configuration merely because the client has a similarly named file; server and client settings can have different roles.

One-click hosting, SFTP, or DIY assembly?

Hosts commonly expose one of three deployment paths. The choice affects convenience and update control, not the fundamental requirement that the loader and pack match.

Deployment path How it works Advantages Risks and checks
One-click pack installation Select Boosted FPS and a Minecraft/loader version in a host panel; the panel installs the server profile. Fast initial setup, fewer manual file transfers, and panel-managed startup settings. Confirm the panel’s exact release, loader, and Minecraft version. Check whether updates are automatic, optional, or delayed, and download a backup before accepting an update.
Manual SFTP upload Install the loader yourself, then transfer the official server pack into the server directory. Clear file ownership, direct backup access, and precise control over when versions change. Requires careful folder placement and a clean stop/start cycle. Verify permissions, startup profile, and complete transfer before testing.
DIY assembly from individual mods Build a pack by downloading and selecting mods one at a time. Maximum control over the mod list. Harder dependency and version management. It is not the recommended path when an official Boosted FPS pack is available, because you can unintentionally create a different mod set from the published pack.

If a host offers one-click Boosted FPS deployment, treat it as an installation shortcut rather than a guarantee of compatibility. Record what the panel installed, export or download the server files when possible, and verify the clients against that exact record. For long-running worlds, manual control can make staged updates and rollback easier.

Make every client match the server

A player can have a fast machine and still be unable to join if one of these identities differs: Minecraft version, loader family, loader version where required, Boosted FPS release, or a required mod dependency. Send players the exact file name rather than only saying “install Boosted FPS.”

  • Minecraft version: A 1.20.1 Forge client is not interchangeable with a 26.3 Fabric client.
  • Loader family: Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge are separate branches.
  • Pack release: A newer client release can add, remove, or update mods relative to the server.
  • Required files: Preserve the complete published pack structure rather than adding individual jars from another branch.
  • Configuration: Keep a copy of the server’s generated configuration and tell players when a client configuration change is intentional.

Keep a short change log containing the Minecraft version, loader, Boosted FPS file name, installation date, and reason for each update. When you update, stop the server, back up the world and configuration, update the server and clients as one planned change, and test before reopening the server to everyone.

Increase FPS without destabilizing the pack

Begin with render distance

The project’s Fabric and Forge descriptions use a render distance of about 4–5 as a low setting for maximizing FPS. Start there when diagnosing performance, then raise it in small increments while watching frame-time consistency. Render distance changes how much terrain the client draws; it does not repair a server–client loader mismatch and does not increase the server’s simulation capacity.

If a player wants more scenery, increase render distance gradually rather than jumping from the low example to an extreme value. Test in the busiest area of the world, because a setting that feels smooth in an empty field may stutter near villages, farms, or many entities.

Use VSync for tearing or a frame rate above refresh

Enable VSync when the frame rate is higher than the monitor’s refresh rate or when horizontal tearing is visible. It synchronizes presentation to the display and can make motion look steadier, although it may change input feel or cap the visible frame rate. Leave it off when you are diagnosing raw frame pacing and have no tearing, then choose the setting that suits the display.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Add shaders only after the base pack is stable

Shaders are optional. First establish a stable server connection and smooth play with the pack’s ordinary rendering path. Add a shader only when the client can sustain it, and change one graphical variable at a time so that a performance drop can be attributed to a known change. A shader setting cannot compensate for a wrong loader or an incomplete server installation.

Forge OptiFine compatibility

The Forge project page documents a specific compatibility condition: if you use OptiFine with that Forge setup, disable or remove Embeddium/Rubidium and Oculus before testing. Those components overlap with the rendering path and can cause a crash when combined. This instruction applies to the relevant Forge installation; do not apply it to Fabric or NeoForge by assumption.

Troubleshooting by symptom

The server stops during startup

  • Confirm that the loader targets the same Minecraft version as the Boosted FPS files.
  • Check the first error in the server log, not just the final “server stopped” line.
  • Look for a missing dependency, duplicate jar, or mod from another loader branch.
  • Restore the last known-good backup if you recently changed several files, then reapply one change at a time.

The server starts, but a client cannot join

  • Compare the client’s Minecraft version and loader family with the server record.
  • Compare the complete Boosted FPS release name, not just the pack’s general title.
  • Remove manually added or duplicate mods before testing again.
  • Read both the client crash or disconnect report and the server log; the server-side message often identifies the missing or incompatible mod.

The client crashes after adding OptiFine on Forge

Use the Forge project’s compatibility note: remove or disable Embeddium/Rubidium and Oculus, then test the Forge profile again. If the crash remains, restore the pre-OptiFine backup and confirm that the base Boosted FPS installation works before reintroducing optional graphics changes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The game runs, but FPS is still low

  • Return render distance to the documented low example of about 4–5 and test in a demanding area.
  • Disable shaders temporarily to separate shader cost from the pack’s normal rendering cost.
  • Use VSync only when tearing or a frame rate above the display refresh rate is the issue; it is not a cure for every stutter.
  • Change one client setting at a time and record the result so you can undo a setting that worsens frame pacing.

Players report lag even though FPS is high

FPS measures client rendering, while server tick performance and network conditions affect movement, block updates, and entity behavior. Check the server console and logs, player count, simulation-related settings, and network path separately. Lowering a client’s render distance may make the local view easier to render, but it does not fix a server loader mismatch or a server-side bottleneck.

Safe updates and rollback

  1. Announce a maintenance window and stop the server cleanly.
  2. Copy the complete world, mods, config, loader files, and relevant server properties to a dated backup.
  3. Record the old and new Minecraft versions, loader, Boosted FPS file names, and release dates.
  4. Install the new server files without deleting the backup or overwriting the only copy of the world.
  5. Update a test client to the same versions and join before updating the rest of the group.
  6. If startup or joining fails, restore the previous server files and client profile rather than mixing old and new jars.

Never update only the server and ask players to “try again.” A pack update is a coordinated change. Keep the previous version available until the new installation has passed a real join test and the group has confirmed that its worlds and required features work.

What the published information does not promise

Boosted FPS project pages describe performance goals and provide configuration suggestions, but they do not establish a universal FPS multiplier, minimum RAM figure, CPU model, or player limit. Your result depends on the Minecraft version, loader branch, hardware, world, settings, and number of players. Treat any claim of a guaranteed percentage increase or fixed server capacity as unverified unless it is tied to a specific test setup.

Download counters shown on a project page are platform counters rather than a performance measurement. They do not predict how smoothly your server will run or how many players it can support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Final pre-launch checklist

  • The Minecraft version is selected and written down.
  • The server loader is the matching Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge family.
  • The server and every client use the same Boosted FPS release.
  • The official pack directories, including mods and config, were preserved.
  • The server completed one startup, EULA/network configuration, clean stop, and restart.
  • A dated backup exists before the first public session and before each update.
  • One test client joined successfully before the rest of the group received access.
  • Render distance, VSync, and shaders are being treated as client performance choices, not server compatibility fixes.

The Bottom Line

For a reliable Boosted FPS multiplayer server, match the Minecraft version, loader branch, and pack release exactly; install the official server files without flattening their directories; test one client before inviting everyone; and tune render distance, VSync, and optional shaders only after the installation is stable.
