PC Gamer reported eight associated legendary drops in its September 24, 2025 guide; Gearbox later confirmed that the Harlowe class mod Reactor drops from Inceptus as intended. No source cited here gives an Inceptus-specific drop rate.
Where is Inceptus in Borderlands 4?
Inceptus is inside the Arch of Inceptus, the Fadefields vault on a cliff east of the Fadefields. The vault entrance is not simply an overworld boss marker: you must unlock it with the region’s three Vault Key Fragments before you can reach the encounter. How to reach the Fadefields vault
- Collect all three Fadefields Vault Key Fragments.
- Travel to the cliff east of the Fadefields, where the Arch of Inceptus is located.
- Grapple up the cliff to reach the approach.
- Clear the mangler nest, then follow the path uphill to the vault and enter to face Inceptus.
Completing the vault also rewards faster glide-pack regeneration, according to PC Gamer’s guide.

Gearbox’s October 30, 2025 update notes specifically state: “The Gravitar Class Mod, Reactor, now drops from Inceptus as intended.” This confirms Reactor as an intended Inceptus drop after a correction; the note does not publish a rate or validate the other seven items.
Are any drops guaranteed, and what are the odds?
The cited sources do not establish an Inceptus-specific probability, a guaranteed drop, or a fixed number of kills needed to obtain any item. They also do not establish whether every class mod in the reported list can drop for every player. A temporary December 2025 event raised many legendary rates by up to 5x and included Inceptus in a Big Encore rotation, but it ended January 8, 2026; it was not a current farming method or an Inceptus-specific rate. Gearbox’s event update notes give the dates and terms.

How to beat Primordial Guardian Inceptus
PC Gamer’s encounter guide recommends responding to visible attack cues rather than relying on a particular build. Its tactics are guide-reported advice; the cited coverage does not establish a required weapon element or tested character build.
- When you can grapple Inceptus: grapple the boss to create pustules, then shoot them for critical damage.
- When it leaps, spits corrosive blobs, or lashes with its tail: dodge sideways to get clear of the attack.
- When it spins its tail: jump over the sweeping attack.
- When it rises to the ceiling and cocoons itself: toxins cover the floor and explosives rain down. Grapple around the arena to stay airborne, and shoot the weak spots at the top of the cocoon.

Can you fight Inceptus in co-op?
Yes. 2K says Borderlands 4 supports solo play and co-op for up to four players. The publisher describes instanced loot, dynamic level scaling, and individual difficulty as general co-op systems to help parties play together. Its announcement does not specify how Inceptus scales for a particular party.
