When did Borderlands 4 release?
2K and Gearbox announced that Borderlands 4 was available worldwide on September 12, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The publisher’s game page continues to list those platforms and describes the game as released on that date: 2K’s Borderlands 4 page.

The launch announcement scheduled a Nintendo Switch 2 version for October 3, 2025. However, Switch 2 is absent from the current 2K page reviewed here. Check the Nintendo eShop or another current official platform listing before relying on the original announced date as confirmation that the game is currently available for Switch 2.
What content did 2K announce for after launch?
The August 29, 2025 roadmap described both free additions and paid packs. Its planned endgame activities included challenge missions, unlockable Specializations, Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode with five increasing difficulty levels, rotating Weekly Wildcards with a guaranteed Legendary reward, an enhanced weekly boss encounter and Maurice’s Black Market Machine. The roadmap also announced seasonal mini-events and Invincible Bosses as free additions, alongside paid Story Packs and Bounty Packs. What are the announced Story Packs?
Story Pack 1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned
On March 12, 2026, 2K announced that Story Pack 1 would release on March 26, 2026. Its announced content includes C4SH as a playable Vault Hunter, the Whispering Glacier region, story and side missions, activities, collectibles, bosses and loot. 2K also described a major update alongside the pack, adding shared progression across characters for map progression, SDU tokens, Hover Drives, cosmetic rewards and activity progression. Story Pack 2, Bounty Pack 5 and update 1.10
On August 20, 2026, 2K announced a September 10, 2026 date for Story Pack 2, FL4K and the Last Resort; Bounty Pack 5, Amara and the Vile Shadows; and version 1.10. That announcement is a schedule, not confirmation that the releases occurred.

2K described Story Pack 2 as taking place on Providence, a tropical island, with a new zone, missions, collectibles, enemies and bosses. It is set to feature Loveless the Hacker as a new playable Vault Hunter and returning character FL4K. Bounty Pack 5 was described as a repeatable mission featuring Amara, bosses, cosmetics and gear. Which Borderlands 4 edition includes the packs?
2K’s 2025 launch announcement described three editions. Standard includes the base game; Deluxe includes the Bounty Pack Bundle; and Super Deluxe includes the Deluxe content plus the Vault Hunter Pack and two Story Packs. Later pack announcements also describe separate purchase options, with the base game required.
