Their advertised features are not proof of safety or compatibility with every game update. Before trying either one, close the game, preserve an untouched backup, and edit a duplicate—not your only save.
Which Borderlands 4 save editors are available for PC?
The projects below are community-maintained, third-party tools. Their feature descriptions come from their project pages; they should not be read as independent verification or official Gearbox support.

Neither project should be treated as official, independently security-audited, or proven compatible with every current Borderlands 4 version. The available information also does not establish a recovery guarantee for saves changed by either editor.
How to handle a save more safely
Gearbox’s save-transfer guidance explains copying PC saves from an older computer’s Documents location to a current PC. The exact location can vary by store and setup, so use the instructions that apply to your platform and installation.

- Close Borderlands 4. Do not copy or edit saves while the game is running.
- Locate and copy the save files. Follow Gearbox’s current platform-relevant guidance; do not assume every PC setup uses an identical path.
- Preserve an untouched backup separately. Keep it somewhere distinct from the working files. Removable storage can carry a backup, but it is optional, not a game requirement.
- Keep character saves and
profile.savdistinct. Work on a duplicate rather than the only copy. Gearbox warns that corruption of game data or the fullprofile.savcan result in loss of shared progression. - Review the editor’s own release notes and version guidance. These are changing community projects; check the specific release rather than assuming a tool listing covers your game build.
- If a save disappears or will not load, stop overwriting files. Consult Gearbox’s save guidance and missing-save guidance before taking further action.
This is a cautious approach based on official copy and corruption guidance, not an editor-specific procedure certified by Gearbox.
What the available evidence does—and does not—establish
Features are maintainer claims
The project pages describe different interfaces and advertised editing scopes, but those descriptions alone do not establish that every feature works as intended. No independent security review or editor-modified-save recovery guarantee is established by the available sources.

Patch compatibility needs a release-specific check
Editor projects can change as the game changes. The web-based project’s surfaced update banner references Game Update 1.10 and Story Pack 2 on 2026-09-12; the standalone project’s releases page shows ongoing changes. Neither fact amounts to a complete compatibility matrix for all saves and builds.
Crossplay does not establish edited-save compatibility
Gearbox’s crossplay guidance concerns teaming up across platforms. It does not establish that edited saves are compatible across platforms. Keep cross-platform play claims separate from save behavior.
Shared progression makes profile handling important
Gearbox says saves progress together when a platform account is shared, and warns that corruption of game data or the full profile.sav may lead to total loss of shared progression. That warning is not evidence of a confirmed penalty for using a save editor; the official guidance does not establish such a penalty.

How to compare the two projects
Use the project pages to compare interface and advertised scope, then check the exact release and game-build guidance. Treat backup and restore capability as a practical requirement: preserve a clean copy before making any changes, because the available sources do not promise recovery for editor-modified files.
