Gearbox added the option for PlayStation and Xbox in its September 25 update. Its notes warn that increasing FOV beyond the default could cause performance dips, but do not quantify the impact.
What changed, and when
Launch-period reports described players asking for a console FOV slider. On September 25, 2025, Gearbox’s update notes said the update “adds a Field of View (FOV) slider option on consoles,” specifying Xbox and PlayStation. That makes launch-era claims that the setting is missing outdated for the update described in those notes.

Gearbox later addressed a related settings issue. Its October 23, 2025 notes say that on PS5 and Xbox, FOV “resets consistently to Default on consoles without showing mismatched values.” This describes a reset behavior, not removal of the slider. The April 30, 2026 version 1.6 notes document other changes but do not announce that console FOV support was removed. The current in-game menu has not been independently verified, so those notes establish the published update history rather than a hands-on check of every present installation.
What to expect when increasing FOV
Gearbox cautions that raising FOV above the default could cause “some dips in performance.” It does not publish a measured frame-rate effect, tested FOV range, or recommended value. There is therefore no sourced basis for promising that a particular setting will preserve performance or identifying an optimum.

If you prefer a wider view, adjust the slider in-game and judge the result on your own system. If performance becomes less consistent, returning toward the default is a reasonable trade-off; that is practical guidance, not a quantified benchmark.
Other visual comfort options
Gearbox’s accessibility reference lists separate controls that may help with visual comfort, including screen-shake intensity, camera head-bob, grapple view tilt, subtitle controls, and color presets. These settings do not widen the field of view and should not be treated as substitutes for the FOV slider.

The same reference notes that console motion blur, if present, may be tied to the TV or monitor settings. That observation concerns motion blur; changing display hardware does not add an in-game FOV control.

Complaints and coverage from the launch window predate the September 25 update. GameSpot’s September 15, 2025 report described Gearbox as exploring console slider options, before the later patch notes confirmed the feature. Such launch-period reports can explain older search results or posts, but they do not describe the implementation documented afterward. The available sources do not establish how many players complained, so the reaction should not be presented as a measured share of the player base.
