Class mods are class-specific equipment that improve a character’s attributes, but their exact effects depend on the game. Borderlands 3, Borderlands 4, and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands do not share one universal set of class-mod rules, so check the title before applying build advice.
What is a class mod?
A class mod is equipment tied to a character class that enhances attributes. The Borderlands PC manual gives the example that a Soldier’s class mod will not help a Hunter or Siren. That is the general idea; the details of skill boosts and other effects vary by game.
How class mods work in Borderlands 3
In Borderlands 3, a class mod can boost up to three skills. Those boosts can apply even if you have not purchased the corresponding skill, and legendary class mods also have a special effect. What the October 2025 Borderlands 4 update changed
Borderlands Support’s October 23, 2025 update notes say that class mods related to melee damage, action-skill damage, and certain one-off legendary stats were buffed. The notes list these level-50 bonuses:

- Melee damage: 60% bonus.
- Action-skill damage: 60% bonus.
- Skill damage: 45% bonus.
These are values documented in that dated update, not verified live values; a later balance patch may have changed them. The notes do not establish general equip rules, skill activation behavior, drop locations, farming routes, or item-acquisition odds. Read the Borderlands 4 update notes.
How Wonderlands handles classes
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands describes its class system through class feats, action skills, skill trees, and a secondary class slot unlocked through multiclass progression. Those are class-system features, not evidence that Wonderlands follows Borderlands 3’s class-mod skill-boost rules. See the official Wonderlands class guide.

How to compare class mods or build advice
Before copying a build or evaluating an item, check these details for the specific game:
- Which character or class can equip the item?
- Does it raise skill ranks, add stats, or do both?
- Can its bonuses affect skills you have not purchased?
- Does a legendary version add a unique effect?
- Which game version and patch date does the advice describe?
For Borderlands 3, the cited reference supports skill boosts, boosts to unpurchased skills, and legendary special effects. The October 2025 Borderlands 4 notes establish dated bonus values, but do not answer every equipment or skill-rule question. Do not assume either game’s mechanics apply to Wonderlands.
