Brachydios is a Brute Wyvern in the Monster Hunter series, known for slime that clings to hunters and then explodes. Capcom introduced it as the flagship monster of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate; later appearances, including its addition to Monster Hunter Frontier G, have their own game-specific context.
What is Brachydios in Monster Hunter?
Brachydios is a Brute Wyvern, a classification given in Nintendo’s official 2013 Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate brochure. Capcom’s Yuri Araujo called it “the flagship monster of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate” in a June 3, 2013 introduction.
The brochure sets Brachydios within a game with “30 new species and subspecies.” That number refers to the game’s new species and subspecies overall, not to Brachydios variants or its total appearances.
Why does Brachydios’s slime explode?
The slime is the creature’s defining hazard. Nintendo’s brochure says it sticks to hunters and then explodes. Capcom’s introduction also highlights Brachydios’s Slime element and unusual movement, including its ability to pivot on a fist. Together, those details frame it as a close-range bruiser whose immediate surroundings can become dangerous.

The specific explanation differs by game. In a PlayStation Blog Japan announcement dated October 14, 2015, Brachydios’s addition to Monster Hunter Frontier G was described as involving saliva that activates explosive slime on its head and forelimbs, alongside powerful strikes and slime spread. That is the Frontier G announcement’s account, not a universal mechanics guide for every title.
Which game is Brachydios from?
Capcom presented Brachydios as the flagship monster of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate in 2013. It also appeared in Monster Hunter Frontier G through the G8.1 update in October 2015. These are distinct milestones: the Frontier G update does not change which game Capcom identified as its flagship introduction, and its description of slime should not be assumed to apply identically across all games.
