brci06ui.dll is a Brother Color Inkjet Printer Driver component, not a general Windows runtime. If brci06ui.dll is missing or cannot load, repair the Brother printer package that installed it rather than copying a replacement DLL into System32.
Public file metadata associates it with Brother Industries, Ltd. and the older prnbr002.inf driver package. That package has appeared with older Brother DCP and FAX color-inkjet models, but the DLL name alone cannot identify the exact printer.

What the error means
You may see one of these messages:
- “The program can’t start because BRCI06UI.DLL is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading BRCI06UI.DLL. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located in the dynamic link library BRCI06UI.DLL.”
- “The module BRCI06UI.DLL could not be loaded.”
- “BRCI06UI.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
These messages do not prove that an ordinary application directly uses the DLL. The failure may occur during printer setup, printing, the print spooler, driver installation, or an SFC repair. “Module not found” can also mean that a dependency of the printer component is missing.

Fix 1: Identify and reinstall the Brother printer
This is the most likely repair.
Find the printer model
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Check the installed printers and note the full Brother model name.
- If the printer is not listed, check its label, the original setup paperwork, or the old printer entry in Control Panel.
On Windows 10, open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners instead.
Do not assume that every Brother printer using an old color-inkjet driver uses the same package. Public listings associate prnbr002.inf with examples including DCP-128C, DCP-129C, DCP-157C, DCP-329C, DCP-331C, FAX-1960C, and FAX-2580C, but this is not a complete compatibility list.
Remove and add the printer again
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected Brother printer.
- Choose Remove.
- Restart Windows.
- Return to Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Let Windows search for the printer.
- Print a test page.
On Windows 10, use Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners > Remove device, restart, and then choose Add a printer or scanner.
If Windows cannot find the correct driver, download the package for the exact model from Brother’s official Support and Downloads portal. Select the Windows version and architecture offered for that printer. Do not install a package for a similar-looking model.
Microsoft’s printer-driver guidance recommends Windows Update first, followed by the printer manufacturer’s package.
If the printer is still listed after removal, open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers, right-click the printer, and choose Remove device. For deeper cleanup, search Windows for Print Management, open it as administrator, and check Drivers before removing only the Brother driver that belongs to the old printer. Do not remove unrelated printer drivers.
A successful repair usually means the printer installs without the DLL message and prints a Windows test page. If the same error returns during installation, continue with Windows Update and component repair.

Drivers can be difficult to match manually, especially when several legacy Brother packages and architectures appear similar. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for stale or mismatched drivers, but its full version performs the driver installation; reinstalling the exact Brother model package remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 2: Install Windows and optional driver updates
Windows may have the correct inbox printer driver even when the old package on the computer is incomplete.
Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates.
- Install relevant printer or Brother updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the printer if necessary.
Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Choose Windows Update.
- Select View optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates.
- Install the relevant printer driver.
- Restart the computer.
You can also open Device Manager, expand Printers or Print queues, right-click the Brother device, and choose Update driver > Search automatically for drivers. This may provide a usable driver, but the exact Brother package is preferable when Windows offers only a generic driver.
If the Brother model is no longer supported, Windows may provide only a legacy inbox driver. In that case, printing may work while advanced features remain unavailable.

Fix 3: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use this path when SFC mentions BRCI06UI.DLL, Amd64BRCI06UI.DLL, or prnbr002.inf, or when other protected Windows files are also failing.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- If SFC reported that it repaired files, test the Brother printer again.
Microsoft recommends DISM before SFC because DISM can repair the component store that SFC uses as a source. See Microsoft’s DISM repair instructions and System File Checker instructions.
If SFC says it could not repair some files, run SFC once more after restarting. To extract the relevant entries, run:

If those names are absent, the SFC failure may concern an unrelated Windows component. Do not replace this DLL merely because SFC reported a different file.
Repeating DISM and SFC without knowing which component is damaged can leave you guessing about the result. Outbyte PC Repair can show what it identifies during its free scan, while the full version handles the repair; Microsoft’s DISM and SFC commands remain the appropriate built-in route.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
If the error began immediately after a security scan, Windows Security may have quarantined the driver file.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review entries from the time the printer stopped working.
- Expand an entry related to the Brother driver.
- Check its original path, publisher, and detection details.
Restore the item only when it came from the installed Brother package and its source is trusted. If the source is unclear, leave it quarantined and reinstall the driver from Windows Update or Brother’s official support portal instead. Microsoft explains this process in its Protection History guidance.
Afterward, run a full scan. If other files are changing or failing, investigate possible malware and storage problems rather than restoring DLLs individually.
Fix 5: Check architecture and package integrity
Do not mix a 32-bit driver file with an x64 package, or copy an x64 file into a 32-bit installation. Public records for this legacy DLL conflict about its architecture, so database listings are not reliable enough to select a replacement.
To check Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System > About.
- Look at System type.
Use the architecture selected by Windows Update or specified by the official Brother installer. If Windows reports that the file is “not designed to run on Windows,” suspect a mismatched or damaged package before suspecting Windows itself.
Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore is useful when the failure started immediately after an update, driver removal, cleanup operation, or other system change.

- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore does not normally remove personal documents, but it can undo drivers and applications installed after the selected restore point. Microsoft provides additional System Restore guidance.

Do not download the DLL from a random website
A downloaded DLL may contain malware, belong to a different Brother package, use the wrong architecture, or have incompatible dependencies. Copying it to C:WindowsSystem32 also does not repair the DriverStore package that Windows is trying to service.
Use Windows Update or the exact Brother model installer instead.
Do not run regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no reliable evidence that BRCI06UI.DLL is a COM component that requires registration. Running commands such as these is therefore not a normal repair:

Do not reinstall unrelated runtimes first
Visual C++, DirectX, and .NET redistributables are usually irrelevant to this Brother printer-driver component. Install them only when a separate application specifically identifies one of them as missing.
Do not change Windows Features or Device Manager at random
Enabling optional Windows Features will not normally restore a Brother driver DLL. Device Manager is useful for updating or removing the identified printer, not for manually replacing files in DriverStore or WinSxS.

When should I escalate?

At that point, back up personal files and investigate Windows servicing or storage health instead of trying more DLL downloads.
