Yes—but only as an unofficial demonstration. A fan has shown The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild running through Wii U emulation on a jailbroken PlayStation 5, with output reported at 4K. This is not a Nintendo PS5 release, and the available reporting does not establish smooth, stable 4K performance throughout the game.
How Breath of the Wild runs on PS5
The demonstration uses PS5CEMU-HAR, an unofficial homebrew app that brings together Cemu, a Wii U emulator, and Azahar, a Nintendo 3DS emulator. For Breath of the Wild, the route is Wii U emulation—not a PlayStation port or a Switch emulation method. The project’s documentation describes configurable rendering resolution and lists the game as an example in its library instructions. Cemu describes itself as a Wii U emulator in its project documentation.
GamesRadar reported the 4K demonstration on October 5, 2026, in the context of a fan video. That supports describing a reported 4K output demonstration, not a verified performance benchmark. The available sources do not establish the frame rate, image quality in every scene, full-game stability, or compatibility across PS5 models and system software versions.
Does it work on an ordinary PS5?
No ordinary, unmodified PS5 route is established by the available documentation. GamesRadar describes the demonstration as running on a jailbroken PS5, and PS5CEMU-HAR is homebrew software. The sources do not document a general consumer installation path or show that standard PS5 firmware supports the app.

- Discover Hyrule as never before: by making your own path, choices, and consequences
- Ingenuity is the key to survival: find multiple solutions to tons of dynamic puzzles
- Surprises hide around every corner: scavenge weapons, armor, plants, animals, and more
- Live off the land: find weapons and armor, cook food, and brew elixirs
- Utilize special technology: the in-game Sheikah Slate controls, objects and enemies in fun ways
That distinction matters: “playable on PS5” can sound like an officially supported feature. Here it means a fan demonstration using console modification and unofficial emulation. It does not mean Sony or Nintendo released or supports a PS5 version.
How this compares with Nintendo’s supported versions
Nintendo’s support documentation lists Breath of the Wild for Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, Switch OLED Model, and Switch 2. Nintendo also offers a dedicated Switch 2 Edition. Its product page explains that inserting the game card into a Switch plays the Switch version, without the Switch 2 Edition’s exclusive features. Neither official Nintendo page lists a PlayStation edition.

| Option | Supported status | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch-family version | Listed by Nintendo | Nintendo lists Switch, Switch Lite, Switch OLED Model, and Switch 2 on its support page. |
| Switch 2 Edition | Official Nintendo edition | Nintendo’s product page describes the edition and the game-card distinction for use on Switch. |
| PS5CEMU-HAR demonstration | Unofficial homebrew; reported on a jailbroken PS5 | A fan demonstration was reported with 4K output, but sustained performance and broad compatibility are not established. See the GamesRadar report and project documentation. |
If you want a supported way to play, the Nintendo versions are the documented options. The Switch 2 Edition is Nintendo’s official enhanced-platform edition; the PS5 route is an experimental emulation demonstration, not a comparable official release. The sources cited here do not substantiate a specific resolution or frame rate for Nintendo’s editions.
What “4K” does—and does not—tell you
In this case, 4K refers to output reported for a particular demonstration. PS5CEMU-HAR documents resolution settings, but that feature alone does not verify how the game performs across an entire playthrough. There is no verified frame-rate figure or sustained-play test in the cited reporting. Treat the result as evidence that the game was shown at 4K output under a specific setup, not a guarantee of consistent 4K gameplay for anyone installing the app.

Emulation, game files, and legal cautions
The existence of an emulator does not settle the legal status of every use. Questions about emulator software, how game files were obtained, circumvention of technological protections, and the laws that apply to a particular person are distinct. The cited material does not provide a jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction legal analysis of this setup.
Nintendo’s UK legal-information page states: “Video game piracy is illegal.” In a separate GitHub DMCA notice dated June 30, 2026, Nintendo alleged that its games use technological protection measures and objected to copying and playing them on unauthorized devices. That notice is a rights-holder’s allegation, not a general court ruling resolving every personal emulation scenario. PS5CEMU-HAR also says it is not affiliated with or endorsed by Cemu, Azahar, Nintendo, or Sony; the emulator project does not mean game files are included or authorized.
