The company’s current website now reports administration appointments for two Build A Rocket Boy entities in 2026, so the acquisition announcement should be read as a statement of plans at the time—not evidence that those plans are still progressing.
What was announced?
Build A Rocket Boy announced the PlayFusion acquisition on 10 December 2024. The announcement named PlayFusion CEO and CTO Mark Gerhard as a co-CEO of Build A Rocket Boy, alongside founder Leslie Benzies. It said Gerhard would focus on the company’s upcoming AAA games, user-generated-content (UGC) tools, and business growth. The announcement did not disclose a purchase price, deal structure, or integration milestones.
Which games and tools were part of the plan?
The acquisition announcement framed the deal as a way to accelerate three Build A Rocket Boy projects:
- MindsEye: described then as a story-driven action-adventure thriller set in fictional near-future Americana, planned for console and PC.
- EVERYWHERE: described as a connected entertainment platform for building, remixing, and playing.
- ARCADIA: described as proprietary tools for creating and publishing user-generated content.
These descriptions explain the portfolio context behind the announcement; they do not establish what was delivered as a result of the acquisition. Build A Rocket Boy founder Leslie Benzies said the goal was to put creativity in players’ hands and help them create games and online experiences. That was management’s stated ambition, not a measured outcome.

What does PlayFusion make?
PlayFusion’s current website says the studio is now part of Build A Rocket Boy and presents ASCENDANT as a squad-based tactical FPS set in a BioPunk world, with a closed-beta route for interested players. The acquisition announcement described ASCENDANT as part of PlayFusion’s work and anticipated a 2025 release; that date is historical planning language, not a current release date.
What is the current status of Build A Rocket Boy?
Build A Rocket Boy’s official website says joint administrators were appointed to Build a Rocket Boy Ltd. on 23 September 2026 and Build a Rocket Boy Games Ltd. on 2 October 2026. It says the administrators manage those companies’ affairs, business, and property. The notice names those two legal entities; it does not establish the status of every company in the wider group or PlayFusion’s separate legal status. The 2024 announcement’s statements about upcoming games and tools should therefore not be taken as confirmation that the work is continuing on schedule.

What later changed for MindsEye?
In a 23 March 2026 announcement, Build A Rocket Boy and IOI Partners said their MindsEye publishing collaboration had ended, effective 16 March 2026, and that Build A Rocket Boy had assumed sole publishing responsibility. The announcement also said the planned Hitman crossover mission would not be released. This is later context for one of the projects named in the acquisition announcement; it does not show what effect PlayFusion’s acquisition had. Read the MindsEye update.

The public acquisition announcement does not report a purchase price, transaction structure, integration milestones, or a quantified result attributable to the deal. It also cited over $110 million raised in Build A Rocket Boy’s January 2024 Series D round; that figure is financing context, not the PlayFusion acquisition price. Its reference to over 250 million RuneScape player accounts concerned Gerhard’s previous Jagex role, not current active players or PlayFusion’s performance.
