The free month of Origin Access was part of a limited EA promotion reported in October 2019; it is not a current offer. You can still strengthen your EA Account by enabling two-factor authentication (2FA), though Origin has since shut down and EA directs players to the EA app for Origin purchases and content.
What happened to the free Origin Access offer?
HotHardware reported on October 3, 2019, that EA was offering a free month of Origin Access Basic to eligible players who enabled Login Verification (EA’s term for two-factor authentication) by the end of that month. The report said existing Origin Access Premier members would receive a free month of Premier instead. The credit was expected to begin on or after November 1 and might take a few days to appear. Those dates and benefits describe the 2019 promotion, not an offer established as available today. Read the original HotHardware report.
How to turn on two-factor authentication for your EA Account
EA’s current setup instructions are in your account’s Security and Privacy settings. Follow the on-screen prompts; the available methods listed by EA are email, an authenticator app, and text message.
- Open EA’s Account Security and Privacy page and sign in.
- Under Two-factor authentication, select Turn On.
- Choose email, an authenticator app, or text message. Complete the on-screen setup and enter the verification code you receive or generate.
- View and save your backup codes somewhere secure. EA says you can use them to sign in on a new device if your chosen verification method is unavailable.
Choosing a verification method
Pick a method you can reliably access when signing in. An authenticator app generates codes on your device; email and text-message codes arrive through the corresponding channel. These are alternatives, not a ranking—choose what works for your account and circumstances. Save the backup codes regardless of which method you use.

Protect your codes and account
EA Help warns: “To help keep your EA Account secure, never share your login information, passwords, verification codes, or passkeys with anyone.” Enter a verification code only in the EA sign-in or setup flow you initiated.
EA also describes passkeys as a feature distinct from 2FA and recommends using 2FA whenever possible. A passkey option may be available for some accounts, but EA does not promise that every account will see it.

What changes now that Origin has shut down?
Origin has shut down. EA directs players to the EA app to access Origin purchases and content, so the old promotion’s Origin Access wording is historical; it should not be read as a current claim path. See EA’s EA app download, installation, and update guidance.
