Call of Duty 3 now has an unofficial native Windows port. CoD3Recomp rebuilds Treyarch’s 2006 Xbox 360 release for PC, and version 0.4.0 reports about 180 frames per second in the Forest level at 1080p when two experimental performance options are enabled and MSAA is disabled. That is a project-specific measurement, not a guaranteed result for every computer: the release does not disclose the test system.
What CoD3Recomp is—and what it is not
CoD3Recomp is a fan-made Windows port based on the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 3. It is not an official Activision PC release, and it does not include the commercial game’s original files. The project’s installer expects you to provide data from your own Xbox 360 copy.

Because it is a native port rather than an emulator, the project can expose PC-oriented rendering and display controls that were not available in the original console release. Reported options include resolutions up to 4K, adjustable field of view, windowed and borderless modes, anti-aliasing choices, texture filtering, texture quality and model-detail settings. The Xbox 360 version was limited to 60 FPS; CoD3Recomp can render above that limit, although menus and video clips retain separate frame-rate behavior.
How the 180 FPS result was measured
The headline figure comes from the CoD3Recomp version 0.4.0 release notes, published by FrankHUN88453 in 2026. Their quoted result is: “With Watch memory writes (experimental) also on, the forest at 1080p without MSAA runs at about 180 frames a second.”

That test has four important qualifiers:
- It uses the Forest level, not a full-campaign average.
- The resolution is 1080p.
- MSAA is disabled.
- The experimental “Watch memory writes” option is enabled along with the other experimental performance option.
The release notes leave the experimental setting off by default while it receives more play testing. In other words, 180 FPS is an optional, conditional project benchmark rather than a normal supported target. No CPU, GPU, memory or operating-system specification is published for the measurement, so it cannot establish a universal hardware requirement or predict your own frame rate.
Earlier project measurements
The same Forest test reportedly produced about 91 FPS in version 0.3.0. Version 0.4.0 measured roughly 95–108 FPS before the experimental boost under the guide’s stated conditions. Those figures show why the new option is significant for the project, but they are still not controlled comparisons across independently verified systems.

What you need to run the port
The installation guide says users need their own Call of Duty 3 Xbox 360 copy. The current installer is prepared for the USA and Europe releases, so the region of your disc or source data matters. CoD3Recomp supplies the executable and port code, not the original game data.

- Leave experimental performance options disabled for the initial play-through unless you are willing to test for regressions or visual problems.
- If you enable the experimental options, reproduce the project’s conditions—Forest, 1080p and no MSAA—when comparing your result with the approximately 180 FPS figure.

CoD3Recomp versus running the Xbox 360 version in Xenia
Xenia is a separate approach: it emulates Xbox 360 hardware, whereas CoD3Recomp is a native recompilation/port. Xenia’s official settings documentation describes game-specific settings and community patches that can add fixes, rendering improvements and unlocked frame rates. Its Call of Duty 3 entry, identified by title ID 415607E1, lists optional changes involving grass, depth of field, lens flares, aspect ratio and field of view.
| Aspect | CoD3Recomp | Xenia |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Unofficial native Windows port/recompilation of Xbox 360 code | Xbox 360 emulation |
| Frame-rate evidence | About 180 FPS in a conditional version 0.4.0 Forest benchmark; hardware not disclosed | Depends on emulator settings, patches and the host PC; no equivalent 180 FPS comparison is established |
| PC controls | Up to 4K, FOV, windowed/borderless modes, anti-aliasing, filtering, texture and model-detail controls | Uses emulator settings and Call of Duty 3 community patches for selected fixes and presentation changes |
| Source data | Your own Xbox 360 game files are required; the port does not distribute them | Your own legally owned game dump is required for emulation |
| Compatibility profile | Project-specific implementation; experimental options may need additional testing | Emulator compatibility and game-specific patches can introduce their own rendering or behavior issues |
Neither route should be presented as a standardized performance winner. CoD3Recomp’s 180 FPS number is a project measurement under specified settings; Xenia’s results depend on emulation overhead, configuration and patch selection. Choose the native port if you want a Windows-focused build with direct PC graphics controls and it supports your release. Choose emulation if you prefer preserving the Xbox 360 software environment and are prepared to manage emulator settings and patches.

What the 180 FPS claim means for players
The result confirms that the port can remove the original console’s 60 FPS ceiling in at least one tested scene. It does not prove that every level sustains 180 FPS, that menus or cinematics run at that rate, or that any particular graphics card will achieve it. Scene complexity, resolution, anti-aliasing, texture settings and whether the experimental memory-watch option is enabled can all change performance.
For a reliable expectation, start with the default settings, verify that the campaign is stable, then change one option at a time. Record the level, resolution, MSAA state and experimental settings when comparing results. This keeps the project’s benchmark conditions separate from your everyday configuration.

The Bottom Line
CoD3Recomp is a real unofficial native Windows port of the Xbox 360 Call of Duty 3, and version 0.4.0 reports about 180 FPS in a specific 1080p Forest test with experimental optimizations. You must supply your own supported Xbox 360 game data, and the undisclosed test hardware means the figure is a useful project milestone—not a guaranteed PC performance target.
