Is Black Ops 6 set during the Gulf War?
The Gulf War is part of the setting, but the available official description does not present the game as a factual retelling of the conflict. Activision’s reveal put it plainly: “The Gulf War dominated headlines.” That establishes the war as historical context for the story, not as proof that its characters or central events are real.
The campaign takes place in the early 1990s, after the Cold War. Its fictional plot follows Black Ops veteran Frank Woods, Troy Marshall, and a team forced to go rogue after an operation goes wrong. They confront a clandestine conspiracy inside the CIA. Activision also identifies Jane Harrow, Felix Neumann, Sevati Dumas, and returning character Russell Adler among the campaign characters. What should console buyers know about physical editions?
Activision documents physical editions for PlayStation and Xbox, but a disc is not a workable choice for every console. Its editions information specifies these compatibility details:
- Xbox Series S: Physical editions will not operate on this digital-only console.
- Digital-only PS5: Physical editions will not operate on a PS5 without a disc drive.
- PS5 physical edition: The PS5 disc edition is for PS5 only.
- PS4 cross-gen bundle: It includes a PS5 digital version, but playing that PS5 version requires the PS4 disc.
Before choosing a disc, confirm that your console can use one and that the edition matches the platform you intend to play on.

Was Black Ops 6 banned in Kuwait?
On October 23, 2024, the Associated Press reported that Kuwait had not publicly acknowledged a ban, while Activision said the game “has not been approved for release in Kuwait.” That is a dated report and company statement, not confirmation of Kuwait’s current policy or availability. The Associated Press report also described the game’s Gulf War-related imagery and settings.
