If Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (2023) multiplayer is not working on PC, check Activision and platform service status first. If services are up, identify whether the failure happens during installation, launch, sign-in, matchmaking, or a match, then use the fix that fits that symptom. Start with low-risk network checks; the title alone does not identify one universal cause or repair.
1. Check whether the game or platform is having a service problem
Visit Activision’s Online Services page and check for a Modern Warfare III alert or a non-green status indicator for the service you use. Check the relevant PC storefront’s service alerts as well. If a service is impaired, wait for it to recover before changing your network or reinstalling the game; Activision notes that service issues can coincide with connection problems.

2. Pin down where multiplayer fails
Before trying a fix, note the exact error wording or code, your launcher, the account you are signed into, and the point at which the failure occurs. Those details help distinguish a connection issue from an installation, access, sign-in, or in-game problem.
- Install or launch: confirm that Modern Warfare III is installed through the storefront you use.
- Sign-in or access: check which account is active and whether the message names a purchase, entitlement, or device limit.
- Matchmaking or disconnection: check service status and then try the basic connection steps below.
- During a match: record the exact message and whether it happens repeatedly or only in a particular mode.

3. Try basic network checks in order
- Test with wired Ethernet if available. Activision Support says, “We strongly recommend using a wired Ethernet connection during online gameplay.” If you currently use Wi-Fi, test with an existing Ethernet cable before buying anything.
- Restart your router. Once it is back online, test multiplayer again.
- Pause competing network activity. Stop or pause large downloads, streams, and other bandwidth-heavy use on your connection, then test again.
- Use Activision’s connection guide for further steps. Its Modern Warfare III connection troubleshooting guide includes router-level troubleshooting. Router changes may require router access; if you share a managed network, check with its administrator. If the listed steps do not resolve the issue, Activision recommends contacting your internet service provider.
Ethernet and router checks can help investigate a local connection problem, but they will not resolve a service outage or an account or launcher issue.
4. Match known-issue guidance to the exact error
PC Game Pass purchase message
If the exact message is “NOT AVAILABLE. Purchase Modern Warfare III to have access to everything.” while using PC Game Pass, Activision’s Known Issues page says to check Microsoft Store device management for an exceeded device limit. If the limit has not been exceeded and the message continues, contact Activision Support. This check is specific to that message on PC Game Pass; it is not a general fix for multiplayer connection failures.

Other errors and crashes
The Known Issues page lists symptoms with their own platform or mode scope. For example, an entry about “Lost Connection to Host” while playing split-screen should not be treated as a fix for an unspecified PC multiplayer error. Check whether your exact message and situation match an entry before applying its advice. Activision also provides a bug-report route for unlisted issues and a PC crash-report route for relevant PC crashes.

Use the details you recorded to choose the right next step: the relevant storefront’s installation or account guidance for access and launch failures, Activision’s connection guidance for connection failures, or the Known Issues and reporting options for a matching in-game error or crash. Do not assume that reinstalling the game, changing router settings, or updating a particular driver is the right answer without evidence that it fits the symptom.

Steam lists broadband internet among Modern Warfare III’s system requirements, and its listing gives a release date of November 10, 2023. Those storefront details do not diagnose a connection error; the listing’s storage figures are launch-era information, not a reliable current install-size estimate. Activision’s PC specifications article is dated October 30, 2023, so its driver recommendations are historical launch guidance rather than current troubleshooting advice.
