Call of Duty had sold more than 500 million copies worldwide by 30 October 2024, according to a milestone reported by Guinness World Records and attributed to Activision-Blizzard. That is a dated franchise-wide figure, not a verified total for 2026. The record also identifies Call of Duty as the best-selling first-person-shooter videogame series. Guinness World Records
What the 500-million milestone counts
The milestone is a count of copies sold across the Call of Duty franchise. It is not a dollar figure, and it should not be treated as a count of in-game purchases or other digital add-ons. Guinness lists the record at 500,000,000 units and says the figure covers the franchise as a whole. The underlying announcement is attributed to Activision-Blizzard and dated 30 October 2024. The sources establishing that milestone do not provide a newer cumulative total. So, as of October 2026, the accurate answer to “How many copies has Call of Duty sold?” is that Activision had reported more than 500 million by October 2024—not that 500 million is a confirmed current total.
How the franchise reached the milestone

Why the sales figures are not interchangeable
“Copies,” “units,” and “premium game sales” describe game sales, though the sources use different wording and scopes. Net bookings and total sales including in-game content are money measures. They cannot be added to a copy count or used to infer how many games players bought.

For example, Activision’s 2021 figure specifies premium game sales through Black Ops Cold War; the later Guinness entry reports a franchise-wide total of more than 500 million copies. The figures mark different reporting points and describe their scope differently, so they are best presented with their original attribution and wording rather than treated as a perfectly matched year-by-year series.
