The figures come from GamesRadar’s report, not an official Activision specification. Call of Duty’s installed size can vary by platform, installed content, and updates, so an individual player may see different numbers. GamesRadar’s report does not establish an official Activision confirmation of the specific measurements.
What caused the reported reduction?
The precise cause of the 2025 change has not been confirmed in the cited reporting. Activision previously described work to reorganize Call of Duty files, separate Warzone from the default download for annual titles, and expand texture streaming so less frequently used content could be kept in a streaming cache rather than stored directly. That roadmap offers context for Activision’s storage approach, but it does not prove that those changes caused the reported PS5 or PS4 figures.

In an August 15, 2024 roadmap, Call of Duty Staff said: “This initial download will not permanently add the stated file size to the storage space that Call of Duty takes up on your device.” The roadmap also warned that players might briefly see older content at lower quality while the cache loads. It described “Optimized (Default)” as the higher-fidelity option with increased bandwidth use, and “Minimal” as lower graphical quality with reduced bandwidth use. Read the official roadmap.
How to remove Call of Duty content you do not use
Activision’s support instructions, dated November 10, 2025, recommend using the in-game content manager when uninstalling full games or modes. The controls let you manage installed content and choose what to uninstall or install.

If removing unused content is not enough, a compatible M.2 NVMe SSD can expand PS5 storage. Sony says games for both PS5 and PS4 can be downloaded, copied, and launched from the added drive. Its requirements include a PCIe Gen4x4-compatible drive with a capacity of 250 GB to 8 TB, a supported physical size (2230, 2242, 2260, 2280, or 22110), and effective heat dissipation; Sony recommends sequential read speeds of 5,500 MB/s or faster.
