If teammates can’t hear you, or you can’t hear anyone in Call of Duty: Warzone, the fastest way to find the cause is to test four layers in order: the game’s own voice settings, who you have chosen to talk to, mute controls, and the device and permissions on your platform. Most fixes take under a minute and can be reversed without losing progress. Work through the checks below from the top, and stop at the first one that explains your symptom.
Match the symptom to the likely layer
Before changing anything, find the row that matches what you see. The menu labels below follow Activision’s current support documentation. If your screen shows slightly different wording after an update, follow the labels you see.

The six checks, in order
1. Turn on Voice Chat and check its volume
Open Settings > Audio > Voice Chat. Confirm that Voice Chat is enabled, then raise Voice Chat Volume if teammates are audible only faintly or not at all. Both changes are fully reversible, and they apply to the game only, not to your headset or system volume.
2. Check the Game Chat Voice audience
Activision lists four audience options for Game Chat Voice: All Lobby, Party Only, Friends Only, and Friends & Chat Channels. A narrower audience explains why you cannot talk to or hear players outside your group, even when your microphone works perfectly. Activision’s page states that Game Voice Chat must be set to All Lobby for the listed options to work, so if you have been using a restricted option and need to reach everyone, switch back to All Lobby and test again.

3. Check mutes on both sides
Mute controls are the most common cause of a one-way conversation, and they work in both directions. Activision notes that a muted player also cannot hear you, so the person who cannot be heard may be the one who did the muting.
- Pre-game lobby: open the player list and check whether the player is muted.
- During a match: open the scoreboard and use Toggle Mute on the player in question.
- Persistence: mute choices reset when you start a new play session, so a mute from yesterday will not carry over. If the problem returns in a new session, check the lobby again.
4. Confirm whether the problem only appears in a match
Activision says that all players with Voice Chat enabled can communicate in the pre-game lobby. In team-based matches, players can typically hear or speak only to their own team, with exceptions. If you can talk to your squad but not to opponents, the game is working as designed. Do not expect every player in a match to be audible to you.

5. On Windows, check detection, input selection, and microphone access
On a PC, three separate checks can fail independently, so test each one:
- Detection: confirm the headset is connected and not muted at the hardware level.
- Input selection: in Windows Sound settings, open the input options, select the microphone you are actually using, and run the input test to see the level move as you speak.
- Permissions: turn on Microphone access and Let desktop apps access your microphone. Microsoft treats app access and desktop-app access as separate settings, so both need to be on for a game that runs as a desktop app.
Microsoft’s guidance for these steps applies to both Windows 10 and Windows 11. Menu locations differ slightly between the two versions, so search the settings for “microphone” if the labels above do not match.

6. On PlayStation, check the console microphone input and level
PlayStation’s voice-chat troubleshooting directs you to the console’s microphone settings. There, select the correct Input Device and adjust Adjust Microphone Level. Confirm that your headset or controller microphone is the selected input and is not muted. If the input level does not move when you speak, the device or its connection is the likely cause, not Warzone.
When a restriction message appears
Some communication options are managed in your platform account, and Activision says those account settings can override the in-game settings. If Warzone reports that communication is restricted, check your platform or account communication settings first. This article cannot confirm the cause of a specific restriction, so if the platform check does not resolve it, contact Activision support with the message text and your platform.

For Xbox, the exact privacy and communication menu path was not confirmed for this guide. Look for your account’s privacy and communication settings in the console’s settings, and compare them against the in-game audience options above.

Treat the hardware as the suspect only after the in-game settings, mutes, and platform input or permission checks all look correct. If the device is not detected on another app either, or the input level does not respond on any platform, a faulty headset or cable is likely. In that case, a platform-compatible headset with a microphone is the practical replacement. A headset cannot fix a restricted Game Chat Voice audience, a lobby mute, or an account-level communication setting, so do not replace hardware before finishing the earlier checks.

What is and is not confirmed
Activision’s Communication Features article for Call of Duty: Warzone, dated 11 September 2025 in its search-result metadata, is the source for the in-game steps above. The Windows steps come from Microsoft’s microphone troubleshooting and app-permission pages, and the PlayStation steps come from PlayStation’s voice-chat troubleshooting page. This article does not confirm whether Activision’s known-issues list currently names a voice-chat problem. Check the official Call of Duty support site for known issues before assuming a fault on your end, and do not treat the absence of a listed issue as proof that none exists.
The official sources do not provide statistics on how often microphone problems occur, so this guide does not offer one.
