Its strongest case is the variety: players can move from a cinematic squad story to team missions and a horror-themed co-op mode. Critics praised elements of that package, though one review excerpt described the game as a return to form rather than a revolution.

Is the campaign good?
The Campaign follows Ronald “Red” Daniels, a young U.S. soldier serving with the 1st Infantry Division. The squad’s story begins in Normandy, moves through France and the liberation of Paris, and continues toward Germany. Activision frames it as a journey through the European theater; the critical excerpts available for this retrospective praised its set pieces and emotional presentation.

That makes the campaign the clearest fit for players who want a character-led, historically themed Call of Duty story rather than a futuristic setting. The evidence supports praise for its presentation, but not a claim that every critic agreed or that it redefined the series.

How are Multiplayer and War Mode?
Activision’s launch description highlights three features: five Divisions, Headquarters, and War Mode. War Mode is an objective-based, team-driven format, while Headquarters serves as a shared social area that includes a shooting range and a 1v1 Pit. Critics cited in Metacritic excerpts praised the game’s grounded multiplayer and War Mode.
Those features give the multiplayer package a different emphasis from simply competing for eliminations: War Mode centers on coordinated objectives, and Headquarters offers a place to practice and socialize. These are launch-era feature descriptions; they do not establish the current online population or service status.

- Call of Duty returns to its roots with Call of Duty: WWII—a breathtaking experience that redefines World War II for a new gaming generation
- Land in Normandy on D-Day and battle across Europe through iconic locations in history’s most monumental war
- Experience classic Call of Duty combat, the bonds of camaraderie, and the unforgiving nature of war against a global power throwing the world into tyranny
What is Nazi Zombies like?
Nazi Zombies is the game’s cooperative horror mode. Activision describes it as a horror storyline, and the critic excerpts surfaced by Metacritic include praise for Zombies. It provides a co-op alternative to the campaign and competitive multiplayer, though the available evidence does not support a detailed comparison with Zombies modes in other Call of Duty games.
What did reviewers think?
The available critic excerpts point to a generally favorable reception of the campaign’s presentation, grounded multiplayer, and Zombies. That is a range of impressions, not a reliable basis for publishing an aggregate score: the captured excerpts do not provide a dependable current score, and one explicitly cautions that the game is not revolutionary.

For a comparison with another Call of Duty entry, consider the campaign’s tone and structure, multiplayer pace and objective variety, cooperative Zombies content, platform and edition, and whether a World War II setting is what you want. The available evidence does not establish a winner between this game and another entry.

At launch, Activision listed Base, Digital Deluxe, and Pro editions. The Digital Deluxe Edition was described as including the base game, Season Pass, and additional bonus content; the Pro Edition was described as including a collectible Steelbook. These are historical edition details, not confirmation of what a current store or used listing contains. Activision’s game page lists the Digital Deluxe Edition, while its 2017 launch announcement gives the historical edition descriptions.

Should you buy Call of Duty: WWII today?
It is a reasonable pick if you want a World War II setting and value a package spanning a squad campaign, objective-based multiplayer, and co-op horror. It is a less compelling fit if you are seeking a major reinvention of Call of Duty; the critical excerpts include praise but also the explicit qualification that it is not revolutionary.
A physical Call of Duty: WWII copy for PS4 is one option for PS4 owners. Before buying, verify platform compatibility, disc condition, edition contents, current stock, and whether the online services you want to use are operating. Activision warns generally that online services may be changed or discontinued, and current service status, prices, and storefront bundles are not established here.
