KTplay said its in-game social platform had enabled 60 million mobile-game installations in China during a four-month period in 2014, across more than 50 games. That figure, reported by GamesBeat, counted installations of games using KTplay—not 60 million unique KTplay users—and was not presented as an independent audit.
What KTplay was—and what the 60 million figure counted
KTplay was developer-facing software integrated into mobile games, rather than a standalone social network app for players. Its SDK let game publishers add community features and live operations inside their titles. GamesBeat described forums, friends lists and a social graph, leaderboards, messaging, event announcements, and rewards. The pitch was that even a single-player game could gain an in-game community layer.

The headline number referred to installations of games that included KTplay over four months in China. PocketGamer.biz also reported more than 60 million downloads of games integrating the platform and a peak user total of 5.2 million. Neither report establishes that the installations represented distinct people, nor does the available coverage describe an independent audit or shared measurement methodology.

How KTplay developed
KTplay began as Kryptanium, a Yodo1 product project in 2012. According to GamesBeat, it was initially part of Yodo1’s publishing services. Yodo1 spun it out as an independent company in 2014 after other developers asked to use the technology without entering publishing arrangements. GamesBeat also reported that Alibaba invested in the new company.

Sina Games reported KTplay’s China launch on April 22, 2014, describing it as a mobile-game social engine for building in-game social systems, improving engagement, and running real-time operations. In December, GamesBeat covered the company’s 60-million-installation announcement. On January 20, 2015, Sina Games reported that KTplay had opened registration for its social SDK and operations SDK after a beta period; its report also relayed KTplay’s claim that the beta covered more than 100 million mobile-game players.
What the reported case studies claimed
GamesBeat reported several examples attributed to Spencer Liu, KTplay’s chief product officer. These are company-attributed case figures, not independent studies showing that KTplay caused the outcomes.

- For an OMG:TD July 4 weekend sale supported by KTplay, Liu reported fourfold revenue and sixfold items sold.
The figures suggest the kinds of engagement and commerce outcomes KTplay wanted publishers to pursue. The coverage does not provide common measurement definitions, independent verification, or a study design that isolates the SDK’s effect from other changes to the games or their promotions.
Is KTplay still available?
Current availability is not established by the sources available here. Yodo1’s current documentation describes Yodo1 MAS, an ad-monetization SDK, and does not establish that KTplay continues, or that it has shut down. The historical reports document KTplay’s 2014–2015 product and announcements; they do not resolve its present status.
