If CameraFi Live says your YouTube stream failed because of an “unsupported video format,” first identify where the message appears: while opening a source in CameraFi, while preparing the broadcast, or after YouTube receives the stream. The available official CameraFi and YouTube guidance does not identify this exact error’s cause, so there is no verified codec or setting change that fixes it in every case. Use the troubleshooting steps below for the workflow that is actually failing.
First, identify which part of the stream is failing
CameraFi can handle different kinds of sources, and an incoming source problem is not the same as a problem sending the finished broadcast to YouTube. Before changing formats or settings, note the precise screen and stage where the error appears.
- Source: phone camera, local video, USB UVC camera, DSLR or camcorder connected through an HDMI-UVC capture card, or an incoming RTMP source.
- Stage: loading or previewing the source, preparing to go live, or after the stream appears in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Details: CameraFi Live version, device model and operating system, exact error text, and any YouTube stream-health message.
These details help distinguish the workflows, but CameraFi has not published a diagnostic map tying this exact wording to a particular failure stage. Its official FAQ covers YouTube streaming, external-device connections, and errors after selecting a broadcast server without explaining this specific message.
If the source is an external camera
For a USB-connected camera, check that the device supports UVC. For a DSLR or camcorder with HDMI output, CameraFi documents using an HDMI-UVC capture card to bring the camera feed into the app. These checks apply to external-camera setups; they are not general remedies for a local-video or YouTube-delivery error.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Confirm the camera, capture card, cable, and phone are connected as specified by their manufacturers.
- For a USB camera, verify UVC support. For an HDMI camera, confirm that the capture card provides the HDMI-to-UVC workflow CameraFi describes.
- Check CameraFi’s device compatibility information for supported resolutions and frame rates, then compare it with the camera and capture card documentation.
The compatibility list is a check for resolution and frame-rate support, not a published comprehensive list of local-video codecs or containers CameraFi accepts. Do not assume that converting a file to a particular format will fix this error.
If the problem is sending the broadcast to YouTube
Separate source compatibility from delivery. YouTube says it automatically detects encoder settings and transcodes live streams for viewers. It recommends testing before going live and recommends RTMPS for YouTube Live. Those recommendations concern the incoming broadcast; they do not establish which files or sources CameraFi can open.

- Open YouTube Live Control Room and confirm you are using the current RTMPS server URL and stream key shown for the broadcast.
- If YouTube or CameraFi reports an SSL error or connection timeout, check that the URL and protocol are correct and that the encoder supports RTMPS. YouTube’s RTMPS troubleshooting guidance addresses these connection issues, not the exact unsupported-format message.
- Run a test broadcast before relying on the stream. Check whether it appears in Live Control Room and read any stream-health feedback there.
YouTube’s encoder guidance also recommends H.265 over RTMP(S) for HDR, or HLS if the encoder cannot support that combination. This is specific to HDR delivery guidance and does not prove that changing a CameraFi source to H.265 will resolve this error.
If you are using CameraFi’s incoming RTMP source
CameraFi described an RTMP input feature for Android as beta in its June 30, 2026 announcement. RTMP input means an outside source sends a feed into CameraFi; it is distinct from CameraFi sending a stream out to YouTube. Check the feature’s current availability before relying on it.

- Confirm the sending device and the CameraFi device can reach one another over the network.
- Check the RTMP address and any required key or connection details at both ends.
- If the feed will not connect or remain stable, review the sender’s resolution and bitrate along with firewall, router, and network rules.
These checks are for an incoming RTMP source only. They should not be applied automatically to a CameraFi-to-YouTube connection.
Check app and YouTube setup when the symptoms fit
Update CameraFi Live through the applicable app store as a general troubleshooting check. Its App Store listing says version 2.65.1 resolved live-streaming errors on certain YouTube accounts, but does not say that update fixes this unsupported-format error.

If YouTube will not let you create or start a broadcast, confirm that live streaming is enabled for the channel. CameraFi’s July 2025 setup guide lists the app, a YouTube account, and enabled YouTube live streaming as prerequisites; it says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. This is relevant to broadcast setup, not evidence that channel verification causes a format error.

- The exact message and the screen where it appears.
- Source type and, for external hardware, camera and capture-card models.
- Phone or tablet model, operating system, and CameraFi Live version.
- Whether the broadcast appears in YouTube Live Control Room and any stream-health notice shown there.
Share those details with CameraFi support if you need help narrowing down the cause. A symptom during source loading calls for source-compatibility investigation; a failure after delivery begins calls for checking the outgoing connection and YouTube feedback.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos looping as a 24/7 YouTube live stream, rather than troubleshoot a camera feed in CameraFi, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
