YouTube recommends an encoder bitrate of 35 Mbps for AV1 or H.265, and 50 Mbps for H.264. Your address-level upload performance, codec, competing network use and connection stability all matter.
How much upload bitrate does YouTube 4K60 need?
YouTube Help’s current encoder guidance recommends these bitrates for 2160p at 60 frames per second:
| Ingest codec | YouTube-recommended bitrate | YouTube-listed minimum setting |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 | 35 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| H.264 | 50 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
The minimum figures are encoder-setting minima, not a promise of stable delivery or recommended-quality video. Use the recommended bitrate for the codec you actually select, and leave additional capacity for bitrate variation and other network traffic. YouTube’s encoder guidance advises, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
What ACT Fibernet’s published figures say—and don’t say
ACT’s 4K60 guidance
ACT’s live-streaming article lists 20 Mbps as the minimum upload speed for YouTube 4K/2160p at 60fps. That is below YouTube’s recommended bitrate for both AV1/H.265 and H.264, so it should not be treated as assurance of a stable, recommended-quality 4K60 stream. The same ACT article also recommends a minimum upload speed of 100 Mbps for live streaming generally, without explaining how that general guidance relates to its resolution-specific figures. Bengaluru plan information
ACT’s Bengaluru broadband page lists Performance Pack tiers of 50, 100, 200, 400, 500 Mbps and 1 Gbps, and says its Bangalore Wi-Fi plans have equal upload and download speeds. Those published tiers make 4K60 plausible for an eligible Bengaluru plan, particularly with a codec whose recommended bitrate is 35 Mbps. They are provider-published plan details, not measurements of a particular line; they should not be generalized to another city or address. Check ACT’s city-specific plan information and confirm the upload rate for your own service. ACT Bengaluru broadband plans and ACT broadband and Wi-Fi plans.
How to check whether your ACT connection can hold 4K60
- Confirm the upload speed for your address. Check the plan and availability for your city, and verify the advertised upload rate rather than relying on download speed. ACT’s plan directory links to city-specific pages and points customers to its app/site or a standard speed test for measuring a connection.
- Choose a supported codec and set YouTube’s recommended bitrate. For 4K60, target 35 Mbps with AV1 or H.265, or 50 Mbps with H.264. Device and encoder support varies; do not assume your setup can use every codec. Allow headroom above the stream bitrate rather than choosing a plan or test result that barely matches it.
- Connect the streaming computer to the router by Ethernet. ACT identifies Cat5e/Cat6 Ethernet as wired options and says wired connections can be more consistent than Wi-Fi. A cable can improve the local link, but it cannot increase the broadband line’s upstream capacity. ACT: Everything You Need To Know About Internet Speeds.
- Test at the time you intend to stream. Run repeated upload tests, account for other household uploads and connected devices, and check whether results fluctuate. ACT notes that connection type, router placement and distance, wiring, and connected devices can affect available speed. A single speed test is not a long-duration stability test.
- Run a private or unlisted stream with your real setup. Use the intended encoder, codec, resolution, frame rate, audio and representative movement. Check YouTube’s stream-health indicators before relying on the line for a public event. YouTube Help says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” YouTube Help’s encoder guidance.
If upload results remain comfortably above your chosen bitrate and the representative test stream stays healthy, the line is a reasonable candidate for 4K60. If results hover near or dip below the target, lower the bitrate or resolution—such as to 1440p60 or 1080p60—or investigate the local network or ISP bottleneck before streaming.

What to do when the stream is unstable
- Upload speed is below the target: reduce the encoder bitrate or step down in resolution, then repeat the test.
- Speed varies or drops at busy times: retest during the intended streaming window and reduce competing household uploads and device activity.
- Wi-Fi is inconsistent: try a wired Cat5e/Cat6 Ethernet connection and retest. This addresses the local network path, not the ISP’s available upload capacity.
- A test passes but the live stream does not: test again using the actual codec, resolution, frame rate, movement and audio, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicators. A brief speed test does not establish that a long stream will remain stable.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you are streaming pre-recorded video as a continuous YouTube live stream, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud: upload the video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, then go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded videos and YouTube streams, not going live from a camera. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
