Can I Give My Minecraft World to Someone Else?

You can give someone a Minecraft world copy, but the steps vary by edition and device. Here are the Windows, mobile, Realm, and Java save options.

Yes—you can give someone a copy of a Minecraft world, but the steps depend on whether you play Java or Bedrock and which devices are involved. You can also invite someone to play in a shared world, but that gives them access to play rather than a copy of your local save.

Choose what you mean by “give”

  • Give someone a playable copy: export or back up the world, then send the resulting file using a method both people can access.
  • Move a Bedrock world between devices: use a Realm as a cloud bridge, then download a local copy on the destination device. Minecraft requires a Microsoft account, up-to-date devices, and an active Realms trial or paid subscription for this route. Minecraft’s Realms transfer instructions explain the process.
  • Let someone play with you: invite them to your Realm or use the edition’s multiplayer options. They join the hosted world; this does not transfer your local save or Realm ownership.

Give someone a Bedrock world copy

Bedrock on Windows

  1. In the Worlds list, open the world’s pencil/edit screen.
  2. Under general settings or file management, select Export World.
  3. Choose where to save the exported file, then send it to the recipient.
  4. Have the recipient import or open the file in a compatible Bedrock installation.

Minecraft describes this export option as a way to keep a local backup or transfer a world to another Windows PC. The official help page is localized in Spanish, so the labels may differ in other interface languages: Minecraft’s world export and backup instructions.

Bedrock using a Realm

  1. On the source device, upload the single-player world to an empty Realm slot. If you choose a populated slot, use Replace World only if you intend to replace its current contents.
  2. On the destination device, sign in with a Microsoft account and open the Realm slot.
  3. Select Download World. The downloaded local world appears in the Worlds list as “World name – Copy.”

Both devices should be up to date, and the transfer requires an active trial or paid Realms subscription, according to Minecraft’s instructions. A separate Realms download guide explains how to save a Realm world to the local Worlds list.

Transfer a Bedrock world from a phone or tablet

Android

Direct file copying works when that world’s File Storage Location is set to External. If it is set to Application, Minecraft’s guidance points to the Realms transfer method instead. See Minecraft’s storage and transfer instructions before moving files.

iPhone or iPad

Minecraft’s guidance describes copying the Minecraft games folder to a Mac or backing it up with iCloud for backup or transfer to another iOS device. That does not establish a direct import route to another platform. For a device-to-device move, follow the current instructions for the devices involved.

Give someone a Java Edition world

  1. Make a manual backup of the world using the game or Launcher’s backup options.
  2. Move the backup file to the other computer or to external storage.
  3. Use the backup with Java Edition on the destination computer.

Minecraft’s Java backup guidance explains how to locate backups and move them, including with an external hard drive. If the world is already on a Realm, you can download it from World Backups into single-player worlds using Minecraft’s Realms instructions.

Protect the world and understand what does not transfer

  • Back up before replacing a Realm slot. Replacing its contents can cost you progress, and Realm backups are not retained indefinitely. Download a copy before changing slots, as advised in Minecraft’s Realms guidance.
  • Keep edition compatibility in mind. The official guidance describes separate Java and Bedrock workflows; it does not establish a safe, lossless conversion between them.
  • A copied world is not another player’s identity. A new Microsoft account entering an existing multiplayer world or server appears as a new player at default spawn without that account’s items, according to Minecraft’s account and world transfer guidance.
  • Sharing play access is not documented as Realm ownership transfer. The official pages explain inviting players and downloading worlds, but do not document a procedure for transferring ownership.

If the current menu wording differs from these steps, check Minecraft’s current instructions for your edition and device; the Realms transfer guidance specifically asks that both devices be updated.
