No—not without violating Rockstar’s rules. Rockstar prohibits modding and exploiting in GTA Online, and says violations can lead to suspension or a permanent ban. If you want to mod Grand Theft Auto V, keep that question to Story Mode and follow Rockstar’s separate guidance; it does not authorize online cheats.
What counts as cheating in GTA Online?
Rockstar identifies online modding, exploiting or abusing game mechanics, joining money lobbies, boosting or recovering accounts, promoting abuse or glitches, manipulating protected game data or code, and interfering with other players’ experience as conduct that can trigger account action. That means advertised money, rank, recovery, or cheat services should not be treated as a safe shortcut. Rockstar says it routinely sweeps for illegitimately gained GTA$ and adjusted RP, and may remove illicit funds or adjust rank (Rockstar support, last updated May 2, 2024).
What can happen to your account?
Rockstar says violations of its Community Guidelines or Terms of Service can result in a temporary suspension or permanent ban from one or more online services. Its account security policy, last updated February 24, 2026, distinguishes the consequences (account security actions).

Rockstar also says a later violation after a suspension may result in a permanent ban. The precise outcome depends on the action imposed.
What does BattlEye mean for PC players?
Rockstar’s BattlEye FAQ describes kernel anti-cheat software for GTA Online on PC. Rockstar says it detects attempts to use cheat software to access GTA Online servers, manipulate protected game code, or sabotage other players’ experience; account actions may include suspensions or bans. The FAQ was last updated June 17, 2025 (BattlEye FAQ).

Rockstar’s published anti-cheat details here are PC-specific. They do not establish that consoles use the same software or detection process. Its general policy against online modding and exploiting still applies to GTA Online.

Yes. Rockstar has a separate support page for single-player or Story Mode mods. It directs players to its Terms of Service, Creator Platform License Agreement, and Mod Guidelines (Story Mode mod guidance). That separate guidance is not permission to use mods or cheats in GTA Online.

What to do instead
- Report suspected cheating: Use GTA Online’s reporting flow, choosing “Cheating or Modding” or “Glitching or Abusing Game Features.” Rockstar’s reporting instructions are here. Reporting is safer than retaliating or downloading supposed counter-tools.
- Secure your account: Add 2-Step Verification and never share your password, QR code, PIN, or verification code. Rockstar also warns about phishing, scam third-party services, and software downloads from third-party sources (account security guidance).
- Keep customization offline: For Story Mode questions, use Rockstar’s single-player guidance rather than attempting to take a mod into GTA Online.
